Interesting stuff from Dave's blog:Someone Is Going Home
Yeah, I know, last night's show was ... not the most spectacular display of rock we have ever seen. I don't pick the songs they get. Trust me, if I did, you'd know it. As for the whole Storm thing, she could have gone with the Cake version of I Will Survive and chose not to. Sure, it's the same song, but ultimately she opted for a less ironic version which to us, came off as really cheesy. I stand by my comments after seeing it on TV. Whatever, she is not going home today I am sure! My prediction for elimination? Patrice. Even though I don't know what planet Zayra is on, she did take a chance. Actually, on second thought, if it were my call, I'd put together a reel of Zayra's performances and cut her today, but send her with the reel directly to a Latin record label and say, "Here, take her... I don't know what you got here, but it's worth looking at. She's just not right for what WE are doing." Honestly, I might just cut them both right now, but as I always say, it isn't my call. I stay out of that decision making process. Tonight, we hear a Supernova song for the first time, featuring Jason, Tommy and Gilby with a yet to be named contestant having the honors. We finally get a chance to see what it is we are actually trying to do here. Find these guys a singer. Now that we are down to less contestants and the finale is drawing near, it's time to hear and see what this thing could be. I am looking forward to it as I haven't really heard an entire Supernova song with a contestant singing yet myself. I think that once we see what the boys are up to, it'll be much easier to understand the rest of the show, our comments and the choices that our remaining singers make from here on out. Next week, we are back to some more rock oriented music. As for tonight's encore... I'd give it to Ryan, Dilana or Lukas.
I couldn't agree with Dave more. That is exactly how I also feel. I am very pumped to hear that Supernova may actually ALL take the stage and allow one lucky competitor to sing with them tonight...oh please..don't let it be Dilana...oh please....
I agree. I can't wait to hear what their sound will be.And I also will just puke if its Dilana.
Pass the bucket, will be another puker here if it's Dilana.

LAST EDITED ON 08-16-06 AT 03:00 PM (EST)Do y'all not like Dilana at all, or just after last night's performance which she shouldn't be rewarded for?

I don't hate her but she's fallen waaaaay out of favor with me the last several weeks. She's blah, blah, blah. I do not want to hear that monotone voice she has getting the encore tonight.

I personally don't hold her completely responsible for the reason I don't like her. I think she's been the "golden girl" of the band and Dave.....and the job it's done on her ego makes it easy for me not to like her.
She has totally and completely slid down my list steadily since the first couple of weeks.I had become a bit bored with her singing a few weeks ago. It just never varies. Every song sounds exactly the same to me. And once that happened, I started noticing how she really isn't much of a singer. She can do low range, growly stuff. But not much of anything else.
Unlike everyone else her, I don't find her attractive at all. She looks older than me sometimes on the show. And that's not good! Regardless of my love for all things rock, I hate piercings and hers are not only way too noticeable, but are way too many. And, sorry if this offends anyone, but she looks like she's been ridden hard and long and hasn't bothered to shower since.
And then I started catching the webcasts. And I now despise her on a personal basis.
I don't deny she's talented and can put on a good performance. But I won't be buying anything from her or by her. And I won't be seeing the live show if it comes to town if Supernova picks her.
I will, however, be seeing Tommy in a few weeks. Motley Crue is opening for Aerosmith. Rock on!
>Unlike everyone else her, I don't
>find her attractive at all.
Not everyone. I just don't address that because I don't think it's germane.
It's a little late in the day, but I think I'll just follow Geg around. Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Except I won't be seeing Tommy, the Crue or Aerosmith.Go Pack!
I really liked her the first few performances. She was originally one of my big front-runners...but, now I am bored with her style. Much like many of the other posters, I too think she only has one style...one low register and is basically a one trick pony. When I think about it, I was blown away with her when the pool of candidates was much larger and she was much better than many of them. Now many of the weaker talents have gone home..and she is no longer impressing me as much.
As for
>tonight's encore... I'd give it
>to Ryan, Dilana or Lukas. And what a surprise.
I hope that the one singing the SuperNova song is either Dilana or Lukas since the rest are pretenders. Zayra would be interesting, but a waste of time.
What exactly are the rest pretending? Enlighten me.

Pretending that the outcome hasn't already been decided, and that they actually have a chance. If I were guessin'.

Thanks Nailbone, my sentiments. It will either be Dilana or Lukas.
From his August 23rd entry:I'd say that out of all of them, Ryan has benefited the most from our comments. He has taken them and adjusted his performances while still remaining true to who he is. That, is the name of the game! Although Toby did try to go for it and step up his performance, watching it back, it felt a little forced to me. I don't know, at least he is willing to take chances and try out new stuff. I commend him for taking such risks in front of millions of viewers like that. It's not like he has a little club tour to try things out each night and see what works. He has to just go for it on national TV. Lukas actually came across less engaging on TV last night than I remember with a lot of back to the audience. Gilby had a great point about that. The funny thing is, that even on his worst night, he is still leaps and bounds beyond some of the other contestants. Someone asked about how I can ask the questions I ask without seeing the webisodes. Well, if you notice the recap packages that roll before I ask the singers my questions, you can see that I am only asking them about what I have seen. We see the recaps in the studio on a large screen. I will tell you, however, that after reading your comments, I went and watched the whole webisode with Dilana's press clinic. Um... Yeah. Wow! That was really intensely stupid of her. I hope I get a chance to hammer her a little about that. If not on the show, I will grab her backstage and say, "What the hell are you doing? You are gonna crucify yourself here!" You NEVER talk ##### about your peers!

Okay, I am totally back in love with Dave.
Cool, thanks Glow. That clears up two questions I had. 1) Does Dave watch the Webisodes (Ans: not regularly) and, 2) Why didn't he call her on the press bit (Ans: he hadn't seen the footage.)
A third question is: Why didn't the rest of the band bring it up? Why was it not even discussed in the opening? Anyone at the taping know if it was discussed and cut out of the show? Loree?
It seems silly to have these clinics if there is no feedback from the band on how each rocker did.
It wasn't discussed at all. (I wasn't there but I read people who were.) Popular guess is that it will be brought up tonight. They usually do the reality show/clinic things on Wednesdays. Remember the stage performance clinic thingy that Jason did? And the song writing clinic? And the vocal coaching? All were discussed on Wednesday. I'm interested to see what is said.

cheesybread you will be happy to know that Dilana is confronted about her press clinic actions. It happens at the elimination show which is shown tonight. And it gets emotional....
This is what Paul of the HouseBand has to say:Paul Stanley of kiss has called us and inquired about the possibility of us backing him up for his upcoming club tour in October /November.Nothing is for sure but it would be cool to do. All of the guys in the HB have been Kiss fans forever and it would be a tremendous blast to play all of those songs as well as songs from Paul's latest release off his new album ,Live to Win, that comes out in Oct.. Plus the HB would get to play together in a show where the songs are longer than 2 minutes! Then in January we may be going out to open for SN with some of the contestants. How cool would that be?!
