Checking in. Hi gang.

"Patrice - Message in a bottle. "
Posted by cycles2k on 08-15-06 at 09:26 PM
The band played great but it was not enough to save Patrice. She really was not bad, but she was not up to the standard being set by other performers.

Patrice is a good singer, I won't deny her that, but seriously she is a poor performer. It's cool that she's always smiling (I'm not against happiness) but it seems she never feels the music, hence the lack of performance.

"RE: Patrice - Message in a bottle. "
Posted by Loree on 08-16-06 at 12:11 PM
The fact that Patrice is always smiling is one of her problems. She seems to smile no matter what she is singing. She can be singing about being sad or angry and she is still smiling. It just doesn't fit.

Good voice but bad stage presence.

WTF? The guys had to put their shirts on because of the censors? I see more flesh during daytime soaps --- it just doesn't happen to be pierced or have tattoos. Really lame...

But they could show a clip of nekkid Toby with his butt pixeled. Not that I'm complaining about nekkid Toby.

Yeah, but he doesn't have pierced nipples so he's safe for prime time. *rolls eyes*

Yes, but the story from the taping is that Tommy was completely naked sitting in the yoga position with only a cushion on his privates. They refused to continue taping till he put his pants back on.

I never thought I would say this, but I really liked Zayra tonight! Ack! LOL. I love her voice much more when she's not mangling a song I'm familiar with. It's very cool.

I don't know Spanish and I would listen to an entire CD of her. That was beautiful.

Beautiful. I knew it would be. I like Latin music, and this was as wonderful as I had imagined it would be.

For once Zayra has actually impressed me. I have no clue what she was singing but it sounded beautiful. It was nice to see her in a less weird outfit and sounding just as equally weird.

Her song was absolutely beautiful - I would listen happily, even thought I don't understand enough Spanish to get the lyrics... But it really was not Supernova style, I wonder how voters will react?

She definitely showed that she has a great songwriting talent and a lovely voice, but I wonder if this will show the band that she's not the right style for them (kinda like Josh doing his own thing)?

Just wondering, though I would totally listen to a CD of her singing that style!

Rainy Days (English Version of Lluvia De Mar)

Rainy days (sing over the sea)
Dripping dry over my wet skin
There's no pain while I'm sinking down
You stay still, then you push me back to

Where I really want to stay
Your crazy waves hitting my hungry hell
Until you make me want it.

Wait. I see you now.
(Still, I can not make you go away)
Wait. You bring the sea
That's filling up my room with everything.

You're the wind. Fly over my skin.
Bring warm breath. Break up this silence.
Look at me eternally damn to you. To your memory

That follows me everywhere I go
And promises that I will get to know your mystery.

Wait. I see you now.
I don't know how to make you go away.
Wait. You bring the sea that's
Filling up my room with everything.

You follow me everywhere I want to go.
You show me things that I don't want to know.
You break me like rainy days.

Wait. I see you now
I don't know how to make you go away.
Wait. You bring the sea
That's filling up my room
With everything.

Don't let me go. No.

Why?

Thanks for the post, Boner. After listening to her originals on her MySpace and last night's song, I know I am buying one of her CD's (the Spanish one & I have to see if I can find it).

I have a lot of CDs in Italian, so the language thing doesn't bother me at all. Beautiful lyrics/music don't need a translator IMO.

Maybe so. Maybe no.

I still think we viewers don't know what the Boys are thinkin'. It seems that Jason has been fighting to keep Z around, so maybe there's something there that they want that we're not catching on to.

I like Magni, I love his voice, but this performance was kind of boring to me.

"RE: Magni - Starman"
Posted by Loree on 08-16-06 at 12:28 PM
Exactly! That is how I feel about Magni. He is boring on stage. Nobody can deny he has a good voice. But there is something missing when he performs. I have also heard that he has performed all the songs he has picked before. He has not had to learn a song yet for the competition. So he isn't really challenging himself yet.

My dh said the same thing, that he's a terriffic singer but not very captivating. He said lst night was kinda lounge singer-ish. Not sure I agree but that was his opinion.

I keep thinking about something Dave said to Patrice a few weeks ago, that she is more "Lilith Fair" than "OzFest". I think she is talented but obviously not right for SuperNova.

"RE: Lukas - Hero"

Yeah, you can say that here. He's never really impressed me either. I guess I just didn't get him from his very first performance. So many people said, "Wow." I said, "So what?"

Based on the snottiness he showed in the first couple of episodes, I think he would be a perfect fit with the band.

(Sorry, Glow.)

Watching the Webisode I had 2 big questions . . . WHY was this song on the board for this week and WHY did Storm choose it.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but still a bit of a wreck.

I was really surprised that this was one of the song choices. *boggle*

The whole time I was listening to her, I was picturing the scene from The Replacements when they were all dancing in the jail cell to this song.

She did what she could with it, but I was still hearing the disco.

I just did, and I have to say it isn't any better then hers. So I can stand by my assertion that to a large (npi) degree the problem lies with the material and not the performance.

"RE: Storm - I will survive"

I like Stormy. She is my fave female in the comp. But that was horrible. She had a bad bad bad performance. She acted lost up on the stage and just seemed like she was trying to get it over. She knew it wasn't good and just flopped through the performance.

"RE: Storm - I will survive"
Posted by mememi on 08-16-06 at 02:11 PM
I have to agree - up to now, I've really liked Storm, she's been one of my faves. But last night was just not good. Especially toward the end when she started really slurring things - she sounded drunk. That may have been an attempt to push the rock quotient a bit, but didn't work, IMHO.

I totally agree. I thought she took a song that is pretty annoying and weak and made a hell of an arangement. I've always hated that song, but I totally dug Storn's take on it.

But, the four of us had a great time.

Did anyone else notice the shot of Jason while Toby was playing bongos? We couldn't tell if he enjoyed it or was laughing at toby, then they didn't show any comments from Jason.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the lyrics are "Oh Lord", not "Hold on".

So they are (I checked). Lucky for me I am not a contestant - I've been singing along Hold On ever since I heard that song and I always thought it was Phil's British accent making him sing Old On.

Really?? "Oh Lord"? I've been thinking "hold on" all this time, too.

I always thought it was "hold on" as well, but last night I heard Ryan sing "Oh Lord" and I thought, cool, I like that better!

Dayum! Ryan is trying to knock Toby off the "hotness" pedestal I have him on. Ryan's 2nd best performance.

I've re-watched this about 10 times since last night, and without fail I get chills every time. GREAT song and performance. I loved the combination with the piano and violins.

I thought he sounded off when he started singing. DH and I looked at each other and cringed. But then he seemed to get into it and the rest was great. But I think he had a bad start.

He did a great job, but dh and I were too busy figuring out who he reminds us of -- Jeff Goldblum (a younger, hotter version). Anyone else see it?

Seriously, I'm glad he didn't fight harder for the original. I haven't heard his own stuff, but he really nailed it last night. The song really matched his intensity level without him going overboard.

I guess she was OK and I sang along, but it is because I love that song.

Sigh - I miss Harry Chapin! Perhaps too much to enjoy the song by anyone else.

I have to agree with her doing a great job on that one.

I see three ways that she doesn't win this:

1. She quits.
2. She forgets the words to a song when/if she's in the bottom three.
3. The band decides they don't want a woman fronting the band.

I didn't care for her at first, but she's become my favorite by far.

Once again to the band I say "Huh?" I mean, it was ok, but I wasn't moved at all, and I certainly didn't think it was the performance of the night.

"RE: Dilana - Cats in the cradle"
Posted by triednottowatch on 08-15-06 at 11:04 PM
That was certainly NOT the best performance of the night. As far as I'm concerned, Dilana has plateaued. I get irritated at the band for giving her a pass on the same things the others get called out for. Every week now, she gives basically the same performance. She sings the song well but she hits the same growly high note almost on cue and says "Yeah!" or "Come On!" every time. She has become cookie cutter and they just fall all over themselves to praise her for doing the same thing every week.

Oh, come on people. If you don't see it now you never will. She is the most talented person on this season by far. If she does not win there is something wrong. Her performance was by far the best of the night. And this was the week I cemented her as the winner of the gig.

"RE: Dilana - Cats in the cradle"
Posted by triednottowatch on 08-16-06 at 10:25 AM
I just have some doubt about someone in the competition who is not familiar with "Won't Get Fooled Again." The week she sang that song, Dilana made the comment that she didn't know that song. How does any serious rock singer not know this Who classic?

She also showed a weakness with her original song. Of course, there are two HUGE egos in Supernova, so maybe they really don't want anybody else to write songs. That criteria may just be lip service.

What in the world are you talking about? What part of my post made you reference (shudder) American Idol. My point was simply that I don't think Dilana has recently changed it up from week to week like the band is constantly pushing some of the rawkers to do.

In another thread, I said that I see her as being only one of 3 that I think have a shot at winning this thing. She wouldn't be my choice, but I could see her winning. I just think they let her skate by sometimes when they should call her on a couple of things.

Not bad. She screwed up the words a couple of times, once where it changed the entire meaning of the song.

I don't know, I think it was bad. Dilana didn't get the song at all. And messing up the words? Come on. I like her - she's done good before - but this week she deserves to be in the bottom three.

Way over rated. Obviously IMO

Yes Dilana is over rated by the band and Dave. I would just like to see some kind of fairness with the critical comments. Dilana isn't perfect. Yet to hear them talk she is. They hold her up as the example to everyone else on the show. I just don't get it. She hasn't impressed me in weeks. If this is who Supernova wants to front their band. I won't be buying tickets to their concerts. I could not watch/listen to her for a couple hours. But it is their band.

Well put. There's no way to "fine tune" your post. Everything you said has value IMO. I find it questionalbe myself that ppl with such impressive musical knowledge (especially Dave) find Dilana so astounding.....but then what do I know?? So do many on this board. If there was a difference in the internet popularity from the band....then I may think it's "who she knows"....but obviously that's not the case. Don't know??.....
I'm not buying tickets myself....it is their band.

Yep. But she's the last of the real dregs. (I know, I know, Zayra's still around, but they...esp. Jason...like her. Maybe she IS what they're looking for.)

After this, we start losing really good ones.

I know that it's entertaining, but come ON - isn't it time for Leonid the Magnificent Zayda to go? Patrice won't make it either, but Zayda is...well...not very good.

But, the four of us had a great time.

Au contraire, mon frere. Zayra did quite well this week, and Patrice was just meh. It's Patrice's turn to go.

Zayra will probably go next week, although as I posted above, I hear that Jason's been pushing to keep her, so there may be more to it than we know.

Regardless, we're getting down to the point where good ones will be in the Bottom 3 from now on.

Not that it's hard to achieve...but Jason does seem like the "brains" of the group. But Zayda just could be "zany"' enough for them to make a differnece (if not ..a statement for sure) If she could survive "All The Young Dudes" she's doing something to someone for "stay" power. AND...I'm not convinced the viewers are throwing votes her way for "shock value" anymore. I think there are those that really are starting to like her.

I keep thinking that Supernova is not going to go for the Chili Peppers or Crue or Metallica sound, like many think, but something completely different. That's where Z might fit in.
