"Tainted Love"

I felt oblidged to comment on everyone ripping Tainted Love as a song choice. Yes, Tainted Love by Soft Cell does not seem on the surface to be a great song selection for SuperNova. But what many of you do not know is that a couple years back Marilyn Manson covered the song. His version of the song was much more in line to what Supernova sounds like. If jenny had done her research she would've done a version similar to Marilyn Manson's version.

You can preview Marilyn's version here.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with the song, per se.

I questioned the song choice for the singer. There's a few ways to go with such a song. The MM version would have probably been the best choice. And the Soft Cell version could be the right choice for another singer. To me? Her version sounded more like the mix of the song that Rihanna uses. And that's just not Rock Star.

What I've liked best on RS in the past is when someone takes a song like this that everybody thinks they know and puts a new spin on it. Like JD did last year with "California Dreamin'" or Marty did with "Hit Me, Baby, One More Time."

That would have impressed me.

Plus, didn't Soft Cell and Duran Duran come out around the same time? They give one guy crap for doing the DD song, then put up Tainted Love as one of the selections that someone HAS to do, to me Duran Duran and Soft Cell are in the same genre, so what's up with that?

Sure, but Billy came out of Gen X, which was a pretty solid punk band. Duran Duran was all about the pretty hair. Soft Cell fell somewhere between the two: not really punk, but definitely more new wave than Duran Duran.

Jenny should have done Rhianna's SOS which samples Tainted Love, hahaha. Actually Soft Cell didn't come out with Tainted Love, it was first recorded by Gloria Park in 1964. Soft Cell just made the song popular.
