"Week 2 - Reality Show"

So I watched the Week 2 reality show last night (on-line) and here are my thoughts:

- No challenge? What's up with that?

- They all got new guitars. Good product placement (i.e. ad) by Gibson.

- Jenny said she didn't want to play head games, then got all neurotic about Lukas thinking she should in the bottom three last week. Who cares? It seems that she likes to play the victim already. "I'm sick, I can't choose a song", "I don't, care give me anything", "How can you say my song wasn't good?". I don't think she will be here long.

- Zahyra is in trouble. She first chose Violet(?) from Hole, which she might have had a chance with, but traded for Girl, You Really Got Me, which does not suite her at all.

- Chris is way over confident, but I think he will get through next week.

- Dilana should be interesting to watch tonight. She is trying to do something with Ring of Fire, but it was unclear what? Slower, less country, huh?

- Not much else went on that I can remember. Lots of sentimentality for Matt. (I still think he was the best of the bottom 3 last week and was unfairly penalized by a close-minded judges panel.)

I think that's all I think for now....

I just finished watching the whole thing. Lukas is awesome. Dilana has feelings. Magni is very sweet. He played "Planet Earth" on his new guitar in Matt's honor. awww. Then he tried to help Zayra. Chris could be in trouble. Yes, he's definitely over-confident. wow. I'm not sure how Zayra got there. Jenny thinks Lukas said she should be in the bottom three because he thinks she's competition. Now I think she sucks and she's stupid. Dana should be on that other singing competition. She's way too cute. Storm was funny with the guitars. Jill sounded good but I don't care for her and that seems to keep increasing - my dislike for her, I mean. I hope Phil can pull this off. Toby is cute. Josh is funny. Ha! Ryan told Phil they're not sure how he's still there.

ETA: I don't remember seeing Patrice.

Yeah, that was pretty funny. And I couldn't agree more. It seemed from the elimination show that song choice was more important then vocals, stage presence (is that right, I'm having a spelling brain fart!), or just about any of the things that make a good front man.

I think INXS did it right. They chose talent and ability first, then toward the end narrowed down what they wanted to hear from thier potential singer. I think Supernova is trying to dictate style first. Or maybe I just think Matt was way better then Phil or Chris...

I don't think "close-minded" as much as "we know what we're looking for, and Duran Duran ain't it".

I suppose you can look at it that way too. I just think it is a little early in the competition to penalize someone for song choice versus performance. I know song choice is a major factor, especially on an elimination show, but Matt seemed far superior to both Phil and Chris singing and talent-wise.

But then again, as we are constantly reminded on the website, this is the Tommy Lee Project. And his opinion (and GC, and JN) is ultimately the one which matters.

I think it was not just song choice, but the fact that he didn't seem to "get it". When they told him to "dirty it up" or whatever, Duran Duran wasn't what they wanted. The guy compares himself to Dave Mustaine. Perhaps some Iron Maiden would have served him better.

You make a good point.

I don't get the Dave Mustaine comparison at all. Of course, I don't even know why he would want to be compared with Dave Mustaine. Especially on this show. Wasn't he unceremoniously kicked out of Metallica, Jason Newsted's old band?

So bottom line, as you said, Matt just didn't get it.

...but he still had the best performance of the first bottom 3... ;)

What watching the reality ep did for me was make me dislike Chris more than I already did. The guy has so much arrogance for someone that is really not that talented. He thinks he is alot better than he is. Okay, great to have confidence. But he needs something to back it up.

And I love the House Band. Watching their reactions during rehearsals and listening to Paul talk to the camera. Those are some of my fave reality moments.
