Hoping the Ode to Michael Jackson won't have me reaching for the propofol (too soon?) and another round of dance combinations that just should not be. Yikes. Is it too late to get in line for Black Friday Sales?

They want the mirror ball more than ever.

Semi-Finals. 25th anniversery of Bad. Troupe and guest dancers dancing to two of the hits.

"Smooth Criminal" and "The Way You Make Me Feel"

"Semi Finalists down the stairs."

Given the costumes, I'm guessing they are doing the mashups that shouldn't be first?

First round dance styles with mismatched themes. Second song to MJ's Bad.

Caveman Hustle.

I found some spoilers on the songs, lets see if they in anyway match what the band plays?

Tony's back went out during a rehearsal on the stage. Cleared to dance.

CGI Dino starts us off on stage...leaves before the dancing starts.

Kill.Me.Now.

Oh dear.

Len. Fred and Wilma never danced so well. You never dissappoint, captured the flavor of the caveman. Tony had the muscle, you had the hustle.

Bruno. Most effective use of animal skins. So much whiplash. Couple of turns unsteady. As a performances, rowrr.

Carrie Ann. I loved it. Liked the cave man sections better than the hustle.

Heading up for their scores.

9 - 9.5 - 9 - 27.5/30

I thought that was fun! It was a really creative interpretation of a nearly impossible theme! (And how appropriate that Tony is a bit "stoned" when they do a caveman dance, LOL!)

I didn't quite know what to expect. I thought it was fun.

Knight Rider Bhangra (Indian folk dance)

Panjabi MC song “Beware of the Boys" (Mundian to Bach Ke)

"RE: Shawn and Derek"

So other than his clothes, what brought in Knight rider (if anything could).

Bruno hugs Mega hit, done it Bhangra Style.

Carrie Ann. That was challenging routine. Finally Shawn out of breath.

Len. Shut up, close the door, call me Mary.

Up for their scores. Double elimination tomorrow.

10 - 10 - 10 - 30/30

>So other than his clothes, what brought in Knight rider (if anything could).

The only other thing I saw was the red light strobing back & forth across the front of the stage, like the red light on the front of the Knight Rider car.

Hard to think what could bring in the theme other than the couple of visuals, although something of the coming out of the truck/driving back into the truck thing? About the only movementy thing you could bring in.

That just made me laugh, because it looked like such a party! Looked like they were having a great time! And I really had to laugh at them being so happy that Shawn was actually out of breath.

That was cute. She does have that energizer bunny thing where she just goes and goes and goes.

I didn't care for the red lights, but I thought this was a great dance. It reminded me a little of that weird dance that Gilles and Peta did a few weeks back.

I thought Gilles' dance was better. Shawn was out of synch quite a bit during this. There were times she looked lost.

"Apolo and Karina"

Big Top Jazz.

Gwen Stefani's “What You Waiting For"

Having a hard time in rehearsal.

"RE: Apolo and Karina"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 09:36 PM
Think I saw a couple of slips, and some of that wasn't quite synched right.

Carrie Ann. Love what oyu were going for. Disjointed. Dismounts sloppy. I wanted it to come together, didn't mesh.

Len. Couple of awkward moments. Apolo you are a fighter.

Bruno. Edgy, surreal, Circe du Soliel and Clockwork Orange. Only lost one step in the beginning. Should have been a 10. Creative inventive performance.

Up to the sky box for scores.

8.5 - 9 - 9.5 - 27/30

OMG, I'm going to have to agree with CA - excuse me while I go barf....
Okay, I'm back. I did see the disjointed parts & a few mis-steps that she mentioned. But I just like Apolo so much that I don't care! That said, it wasn't their best routine, I'm afraid.

I didn't watch any of it. I'm not really a Karina fan at all. I'm meh about Apolo.

Espionage Lindy Hop

“Secret Agent Man” by Johnny Rivers.

Cheryl is trying to blow up the mirror ball.

Len. Liked the concept, energy and fun. Would have liked more Lindy in there.

Bruno. Out there. Loony Tune version of James Bond. Most fun performance seen you do.

Carrie Ann. That was your most animated.

9 - 9 - 9 - 27/30

I think Len described it best when he called it the Loony Toons James Bond dance. I liked it though.

Surfer Flamenco

“Malaguena” by the Brian Setzer Orchestra

"RE: Kelly and Val"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 09:58 PM
Val in a Speedo. *tosses pillows*

The water stomping was hot.

Bruno. Upstaged by the speedos. Placement wasn't there. It was wild like paso doble.

Carrie Ann. Kelly and Carrie agree he was looking at Val. A little robotic for a flamenco, more paso.

Len. If this was poker, went all in. Verve, attack. Could have done more flamenco.

Val says it is very cold in the studio.

8 - 9 - 8.5 - 25.5/30

Kelly got in a good line with "He was looking at Val", LOLOL!!

"RE: Kelly and Val"

I missed what they called it, and I had to rewind because in my mind I saw a Paso. I thought it was fun. I thought Val looked pretty darn hot and, like Bruno, I may have been distracted.

I like Kelly & Val.

Argentine tango to Michael Jackson's “Dirty Diana.”

Kathrine's kids let her out. Some of the unreleased material on the 25th release will be played tonight as well.

"RE: Melissa and Tony"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 10:11 PM
She's good at most of the tricks, but the dancing doesn't seem quite right to me, but what do I know. *waits for Qwerty's deconstruction*

Len. Be disappointed if you are not here next week.

Bruno. You were possessed out there. Lifts were extraordinary. you deserve to be in the final.

Carrie Ann. Magnificent Melissa. Can't believe you are the underdog. Lifts were out of this world.

Up for the scores.

10 - 10 - 10 - 30/30 57.5/60

I will type more when my eye sockets have stopping bleeding because I decided that jamming ice picks in my eyes was a better option than watching the rest of the routine.

I won't even get into a rant that this was labelled an argentine tango. Whatever you call it, it was danced ackwardly and very ugly.

"RE: Melissa and Tony"
Posted by zookeepertx on 11-19-12 at 10:11 PM
Wow, Melissa looks really hesitant for her! I'm not seeing a lot of sharpness in her moves. Maybe it's just me, because it sounds like the judges really like it.

"Shawn and Derek"

Argentine Tango to Michael Jackson's “Bad,”

Sunny and Emma to one of the rare tracks to start.

"RE: Shawn and Derek"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 10:23 PM
Wait this is the same dance as Melissa? What was all the stuff done in hold? I didn't see that in the first one.

Bruno. Seen two different interpretations. Pure hooks, it was breathtaking. Stylistically perfect. Is there anything you can't do.

Carrie Ann. Amazing, every line perfect. Sometimes more than just movement. Lacked the drama and intimacy. And they are fighting.

Len. Part one learn the routine, Part two you sell it. For me you nailed both parts.

9 - 10 - 10 - 29/30 59/60

Awesome! Beautiful! Great!

Also, shut up, CA!!

(Is there something connected wrong in Bruno that will not allow him to speak unless he's standing up?)

"RE: Shawn and Derek"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 10:27 PM
I dunno about wrong, but he could be like me and have a lot of Kinesthetic (movement based rather than visual or auditory) in his learning style. I find it much easier to do a presentation if I can walk around rather than just stand behind a podium or sit on a stool.

And do not ask me to talk well if you tie my hands behind my back. I can't finish a sentence if I can't talk with my hands.

Hmmm, I have the same thing about having to have my hands mobile when talking, but I don't HAVE to be able to fling them around like that! I get the movement thing, but he's way beyond reason with it. (JMHO)

I do think he over-exaggerates whatever tendencies he has. Probably didn't get enough attention as a kid.

Rumba to “Man in the Mirror.”

"RE: Apolo and Karina"

*thud*

He danced even when doing a lot of the standing around stuff, and not many of the male stars can do that.

Carrie Ann. Melted my heart. Passionate, thank you.

Len. Like the sea, wave after wave of movement, fabulous.

Bruno. You nailed it. Perfectly pitched. Flow of movement was perfection.

Supersized freestyle next week. With Fries!

Tango to “Leave Me Alone.”

Some parts looked a bit awkward, could be his hold?

Len. Biggest Challenge. Ballroom tango. Quality is ease and elegance, and both sharp aggressive dances. Coped well.

Bruno. Predatory power. So good to see. Tango the footwork could have been more exact. needed refinement.

Carrie Ann. Really pushed it. Happy to see that. Tango has a lot of technique, the hold was a bit broad.

I hate seeing Emmitt stressing & down like he was in rehearsals; it's so not like him!

Rumba to “I Just Can't Stop Loving You”

Frightened of us?

"RE: Kelly and Val"
Posted by Snidget on 11-19-12 at 10:59 PM
It was nice. The judges are probably going to drool.

Bruno. Smoldering, consumed by lust. Chemistry is singeing. Gave everything you have.

Carrie Ann. to interpret the lyics, some movements a little clipped.

Len. Love it when you speed in and slow it all down. Well done.

Monday 1 hour next week.

"Overall Comments"
Posted by samboohoo on 11-20-12 at 10:34 AM
I have only seen through Round 1. All of my votes went to Melissa. I like her. I love Tony. I'm glad he is partnered up with her again, and I hope they make it to the finals. I'd love to see them win.

Shawn & Derek: When I see Shawn, I see gymnast. Young gymnast. I don't know that her image will ever change for me. There is a disconnect for me with her being a sexy dancer. While I think she does a great job each week, it just doesn't work for me.

Emmett & Cheryl: Love Emmett. Love Cheryl. She's been my favorite since Season 2 with Drew. Emmett has style and groove.

Apolo & Kristina: Meh. They do absolutely nothing for me.

Val & Kelly: I think they are smoking hot. I usually throw votes her way. I didn't love her in Season 1, and I thought Mr. Peterman should have won that year, but I love her this year.
