"Music - Blessings and Curses"

It seems like every week SOMEONE gets screwed by the music choices. Who do you think was cursed with bad music this week?

Crap -- you expect me to remember things that happened yesterday?Just off the top of my head I thought Chris and Cheryl's was a difficult paso to get into. I'll ponder (ie, review the ECST and get back to you)

I thought the rest of the songs were good (at least much better than other weeks) and could be danced well with the right people.

I think a full orchestra can boost even a crappy song. There were a couple last night that I thought weren't really great, and a few that really impressed me. Like you, though, I can't remember which ones they were now. After this week, I would LOVE to see SYTYCD do a live orchestra night.

I know from experience that is not always the case
It is rare that I would choose to perform to live music.

I understand the sentiment. Since DWTS is done to live music every week, that wasn't an issue, and the full orchestra was a definite improvement. If done well, I would find a full orchestra SYTYCD breathtaking!

As long as the dancers rehearse to a recording of the orchestra playing the music the same way it will be played performance evening.
Because no matter how insistent they are that they can play the music "exactly" like the CD, they don't. Makes it an SOB to choreograph.

Yeah, that was a bizarre song. There was another paso song that I thought was pretty much dreck, too. Can't remember. I think it was the one Petra danced to.

I did not care for the music for Petra. Did not seem like paso music - way too fast. I think of the paso as a dramatic song. I don't see how she was scored that high - but that's just me.

That was part of it actually I think. I agree her song was really weird, and watching it it just didn't seem that great. I rewatched a chunk of it without sound, and it looked like a much better paso to me
. Her moves themselves were actually fine I thought, just had kind of wonky music which made it look off.

My opinion on this week's music was pretty much said in the ECST, but it bears repeating: just about every song was teh svck...

A Samba to Sweet Home Alabama!?! A Samba? A Samba. *Bangs head repeatedly against wall*

Last night was traumatic enough that I blocked the rest of the evening (I seem to recall a rhumba to something like "Proud to be an American" -- I know that absolutely cannot have happened. I must have been hallucinating).May I humbly submit that Patriot Days has been the worst idea ever for themes?

First curse of the night is Chris and Cheryl. I like Don't Stop Believin', but for a TANGO? Just no.I don't think any of the other songs qualified as real blessings, but no other curses tonight, either.

Agreed. Cheryl is awesome at choreographing and teaching the tango, but that music last night just didn't cooperate.I don't think it's a coincidence that Ralph had the worst score last week with that terrible Western song for a samba, and now Chris had his worst score with this terrible tango selection.

I don't think that was the music, though. The music was appropriate to the dance.Frankly, this week bored me to death. I know there was one song that made me wince, but I've forgotten whose already. I just didn't care enough to really pay attention.

Yes, it was a tango, but a very insipid one. Half the battle or performance is having a kick a$$ song. It keeps the audience's attention and is much easier to dance to.Hines and Kendra's tangos were something I would expect at a dance class when you are first learning the steps.
Cue the castinets!

Kirsty & Maks - Perfect by P!nk. Awesome song that was butchered by the band so badly it became undanceable.

Yeah, that song was played at least twice on the radio station that I generally listen to today, and the difference from the 'slow' first part and when it picks up when the 'Pretty pretty please' line changes the tempo wasn't as dramatic as it was last night...Pink's version had the tempo maybe go up 150%... last night? 200-300% or more!
