"DWTS 10 Episode 1 ECST"

Posted by vince3 on 03-22-10 at 06:31 PM
Please keep all details of tonight's opening night carnage here until midnight, at least.

Also, I've created a general contestant, judge and interviewer thread a few minutes prior so we can try to herd in the Bachelor Jake, Kate, and Ochostinko bashers, among others.........

General rule for the Performance Night threads: I will post the dancers in the subject/topic header and then inside put what they're attempting to dance, as well as what I think the band is attempting to play for them to try to dance to. I will also then try to pick up in a reply to that post a highlight of the interview with our newly minted Brooke-bot, previous champion she is and all that, and the judges scores for them, and when necessary what their total judges scores are for the voting period.

Tonight's dances, per TV Guide.com, are the Viennese Waltz, and the Cha Cha Cha. After tonight, there will be another Performance Night, before next Tuesday's Results Night and the return of the Red Light of Doom/Red Light Special........ and if there is any kind of special weirdness like a Dance-Off or somesuch...........

Since 'bot' is an insult in reality context, let's not apply it to Brooke until she's proven her pre-programmed status. There's a chance she's some kind of upgrade...

It seems as if Niecy Nash has been on every entertainment news program in existence tonight, giving them full access to her training area and pre-show jitters in exchange for their telling people who the bloody hell she is. The strategy begins early -- we'll see if it works.

It sounds like next week will retain this dance card: whichever you didn't do in the premiere, you're doing for the follow-up. That should limit the screaming by about two percent.

No dead dolls have been scheduled for this broadcast. That you know of.

But maybe a dead astronaut...not sure what kinda shape Buzz is in.

Brooke if I recall wasn't bad on Rock Star, but I might be wrong.

Brooke was fab at Rock Star. Hoping for great things.

In preparation for Buzz and Ochocinco

Drink of the night

bourbon and ginger - doubles

snack of the night

Garrett's Spicy Cheese popcorn ( A must have. Got some in Chicago and found out they have a Garrett's in Manhattan - I'm doomed)

Oh, and leftover roasted turkey breast with cucumber, sprouts, tomato and mayo on 7 grain bread.

They've blinged out the studio for the premiere.

The band is still the svck.

Looks like Pamela will be our Pimp Spot receiver with Kate just before her....... if their phone #'s are any indication......

I don't like the change, though -- the contestants could use a moment of semi-privacy here and there: this is too open. The scoring graphics don't add anything, and the opening credits sequence should have just danced off the roof to a fatal fall.

As I'm sure Max will shortly confirm, change is not always good.

Two-time DWTS champion, and will be a drill sergeant to him, if necessary.......

"RE: Chad and Cheryl"

Next week he's got the Fox Trot, apparently.......

Len calls him a rough diamond......hoo boy.

Tom calls the new interview area the Celebriquarium...... or something to that affect......

Scores: 6-6-6 for a total of 18. New judges scores graphics which include the judges scores by their name and then a Total Score flash after all 3 are done....... They're definitely having fun with the new graphics package they got for this year........

Lift police! Lift police! Was Carrie-Ann in the bathroom?

Gee, Shannon, the public record says you have no problem forgetting when people are watching...

Definitely too complicated for a first attempt. Bunt singles before swinging for the fences: no one gives you credit for the speed of your whiffs. But she's taking it seriously -- maybe too much so.

But he is dumb every day...

Shot of Vienna in the audience! Subtract a thousand votes!

Enough with the rose. Really. Enough.

I thought he was super cheesy and too stiff. I don't think there is anything redeeming about him. Not even a shot of his abs.

I groaned when he was introduced. I groaned with I spotted Vienna. I groaned with that damn song.

Well, she's enthusiastic. And we know she'll promote herself unto death. Plus she's following the fringe trend, and I'm pretty sure she stole Siobhan's hair accessories. But the makeup department hates her: there's one every year, and she's it. That's going to take some work to overcome.

Something I've noticed in the 'quarium shots: when shown, Pamela is generally applauding everyone at a high pace. Muchostinko is barely putting his hands together.

And our first of many Len-skewerings! Long may he have a verbal sword stuck through him.

The dance's spinning is opposite the way that he's used to and he's getting dizzy....... their meeting was in Vancouver while the Olympics were still going on........ and she hoped that she wouldn't hold him beating the Russian skater for the gold against him....... Her message: "Don't Fall!"

They didn't have the balls to sign up Johnny Weir. He says what he thinks come hell or high water, and there's no doubt in my mind that they were scared $h!tless he'd say the wrong thing to the wrong person and make the show a whole lot of trouble. Especially if he got into it with Ochostinko, the war of words would have been priceless. Also not something they'd have had the balls to take a chance on on a live show.

She went for the counterstereotype: a modest dress (by show standards), slow it down, go more for the original intent of the dance than anything else. It was a strong performance for an opener -- but it was an even stronger dose of prune juice swallowed by Len, who followed up by forcing it down everyone else's throat.

Maybe we really do need to move the show back an hour.

It's the return of Kate's Someone Is Daring To Criticize Me! face, and no amount of surgical decoration or makeup can cover it up... 'Scary!'

How many dance studios was that? Did any of them look like someone's refurnished basement?

No, she can't enjoy herself -- and she can't surrender any degree of control to her partner. As predicted -- and also as forecast, it's going to be a problem. (But honestly? That was just a little bit easier than calling sunrise.)
