"Dancing With The Stars #6 Episode #7 East Coast Update Thread"

Please keep all in-episode discussion about The Slow, Torturous Removal Of The Funny on this thread until the West Coast gets a sigpic-free look at just how boring ballroom dancing can be when the most emotional performance you have to look forward to all evening is executed by Priscilla's mask. And we do mean 'executed'.

Oh, and segcappers wanted. I'm trying to step back on my exposure to nightmarish camera work. (Idol Heaves Forward is tomorrow.)

As if AI would let you off that easy!

Tues is a regular performance night of "inspirational songs" (1 hour)
Weds is Beg-a-Thon starting at 7:30 pm for 2.5 hours of heart tugging.
Thurs we have the results show (1 hour), during Survivor.

Which means I'll miss the results show. (Again.) And I might miss the begathon. And I always have the option of skipping the whole thing.

AI vs. Survivor in a ratings head-to-head? FOX is confident...

In deference to my allergies....

Drink of the night

Hot green tea with lemon and a shot of benadryl

Feel free to join me, and add whatever libation suits your fancy.

Plus, I had my pupils dilated this afternoon, who knows what this night may bring.

The pollen is really bad here.

Darn plants and their sexual reproduction.

You have dilated pupils and you are going to watch with the nausea inducing camera work and garish costumes? You are brave.

"RE: Drink of the night"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 08:34 PM
The dilation does make Priscilla more life-like.

"RE: Drink of the night"

Something has to.

I like her better in a softer lip color, garish colors only makes it's weirdness more pronounced.

The fibro is really flaring up, thanks to the weather changes and the wind, so besides the allergy meds, and the mocha java, I added some extra super-duper pain meds.

That really made What's-his-name Carolla a bit more tolerable. I wasn't even sure if he insulted anyone last night. What was that about the Spaniards? Was he talking about Cocker Spaniels? I dunno.....I could almost make out the hand gestures from Marlee's dowhatchamacalit...guy.

"Kristi and Mark"

Must.get.more.emotion.out.of.Kristibot..........

Dancing the Paso Doble to a Disco version of "How Does It Feel"

Split decision on whether or not she got some more emotion out...... Len thought not so much, the others thought there was more emotion.........

10~9~10 (the first 10s of the season!) for a total of 29!

"RE: Kristi and Mark"
Posted by Snidget on 04-07-08 at 08:15 PM
I think she did get more expression than before.

She is so technically right on that I think it can make it seem less emotionally invested. She needs to loosen it up just a little bit to really let the emotion flow.

"RE: Kristi and Mark"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 08:20 PM
Really liked the dance, but Kristi is, in fact, tense and a bit detached. Loved her handkerchief bottom dress, and she worked it well.

"RE: Kristi and Mark"
Posted by frisky on 04-07-08 at 11:16 PM
What is with Mark's "fish mouth" when he's dancing? He does this wide open mouth with fat lips, then slams them shut, then does a hard turn and the mouth pops open again like he's taking a big bite of algae.

Other than that, he can paso my doble any time.

"Bruno"
Posted by udg on 04-08-08 at 05:46 PM
Apparently, Bruno is unfamiliar with Figure Skating. He was mega impressed with Kristi's ability to jump-spin on one leg at the end of the dance. Um... Yeah.

Mark's fish mouth is mega distracting, too.

I thought Kristi hit the emotion of the Paso well, especially considering the horrid music she had to deal with.

"Priscilla and Louis"
Posted by vince3 on 04-07-08 at 08:22 PM
Louis felt that Priscilla needed more flow, so he took her Roller Skating!

Dancing the Viennese Waltz to (I'm not sure) Do-Right-All-Night-Woman?

Flow? *shrug*

Was there a lift? *oopsie* Carrie mis-interprets Priscilla's frozen face with a look of perfection..... (huh?)

7~7~8 for a total of 22, at least two judges had marked her down a point for that "lift".......

Priscilla in an aquamarine "Jasmine from Aladdin" confection. Lord help us all. I was not impressed. It looked as though she almost fell out of one of the turns. Not her night.

And that face...gads.

"RE: Priscilla and Louis"
Posted by Snidget on 04-07-08 at 08:29 PM
I was trying to figure out how she could tell her "dance face" from her "frozen forever face"

"RE: Priscilla and Louis"
Posted by observer on 04-08-08 at 02:14 AM
Carrie Ann made an insensitive comment about Priscilla's facial expression. Carrie Ann said Priscilla was upset, (or something like that), but it didn't show on her face.

Everyone knows that Priscilla's facial muscles are damaged. It's not polite or considerate to comment on it.

"RE: WARNING - observer"

My comment about not being "polite and considerate" was aimed at Carrie Ann, not at a poster.

"Carrie Ann's Comment"
Posted by Snidget on 04-08-08 at 07:35 PM
I replayed the comment (it is on youtube and was on most of the entertainment news shows tonight).

Paraphrasing, but still not sure I see it nearly as negatively as you.

You should teach a class. You can show so much drama in your face.

She then added that we don't see your troubles on your face, but in that context I don't see that as knocking her for having no facial expression. The overall context was she needs to teach other people how to have such a wonderful face while dancing and how not to broadcast your worries or concerns during a performance.

Unfortunately I'm not sure what she could teach given a lot of her facial expression does seem to be from some bad plastic surgery. Maybe Carrie Ann doesn't watch celebrity news.

To me, being able to create an emotion in the audience even when you might be scared or worried by keeping that off your face is something you would want to do. It really can mess up a performance to see all the anxiety and nerves all over someone's face when it doesn't fit what they are trying to evoke.

"Adam and Julianne"
Posted by vince3 on 04-07-08 at 08:31 PM
They're not quite in it to win it yet, they're currently in it to not "lose" it............

Dancing the Paso Doble to bullfighting-style music.

I knew he looked like Zorro, but he rode in on a Unicycle! LOL

Adam looked a little extra crispy in the face in the red light.........

The judges comments were mostly for comedy...... but they liked it, kinda...........

Scores will be after the break.

6~7~6 for a crowd booing score of 19.......

Len scored Adam and Priscilla both 7. That is interesting.

LAST EDITED ON 04-07-08 AT 08:46 PM (EST)

Everyone wants to beat Kristi, just once (the 29, however, this week, makes it difficult......)

All the spinning in the Waltz is making her dizzizzzizzzy.......

Dancing the Viennese Waltz to "Always A Woman To Me" (Ow. High note made the dog howl.......)

Len liked the dance but was a little concerned about her posture.....

Bruno also had some posture issues........

Carrie was moved to tears and had her breath taken away......

Total score 24, missed the individual scores, sorry channel flipped in too late.

"RE: Marlee and Fabian"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 08:46 PM
Lovely dress, Marlee tries so hard. But I don't know about being moved to tears. Fabian is great.

"RE: Marlee and Fabian"
Posted by qwertypie on 04-07-08 at 11:44 PM
My theory -- and you heard it here first,
that Carrie Ann is doing some sort of fertility treatment that this would explain her being much mroe emotional this go around (she had said in an interview that she was ready to have kids. I wonder if she and Artem are still an item?)

"Chemistry!"
Posted by udg on 04-08-08 at 06:44 PM
I love that he can tease her like that. "I'm must pretending to love you."

"Len"

Is it the benadryl or is Len particularly orange tonight? Maybe it's the shirt.

"RE: Len"

It does look like he it the spray tan a bit hard this week.

The shirt really doesn't help, either.

They're gonna try to step up the intensity

Dancing the Pasa Doble to (I know that f'n song, and I think Michael Jackson sung it.....it was in Moonwalker and it was the anti-paparazzi/tabloid song........)

Mario made his comeback this week........ but there were some mis-steps....... Bruno thinks that (like Kristi) he has one style of dance (unlike Kristi, though, his is wild, not robotic.....)

8~7~9 for a score of 24....... another spread from the judges.... basically it was a point improvement across the board .......

"RE: Mario and Karina"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 08:54 PM
Song is "Higher Ground" Stevie Wonder.

"RE: Mario and Karina"
Posted by vince3 on 04-07-08 at 08:56 PM
I still think MJ sang a version of it for Moonwalker........

"RE: Mario and Karina"

We are both right, grasshopper:

"Higher Ground" Stevie Wonder 1973
"Moonwalker, movie" Michael Jackson 1988

Go ahead, make me show my age, young'un.

"RE: Mario and Karina"

Dancing the Viennese Waltz to "A Man's World"

The judges liked his dance so much they're willing to forgive a stumble he made.

Carrie's hormones might be starting up again. Len gave it a Wow! Bruno thought it was sexy........

10~9~10 for a total of 29 to tie Kristi!

(3rd attempt to post, I've hit the escape button twice already.....)

"RE: Jason and Edyta"

That was wonderfully sexy and passionate - for a 6'6" football player.

Cheryl took Cristian to the opening of her new dance studio so he could meet Drew......

Dancing the Pasa Doble to another round of Bullfighting music......

Cheryl looked like she had a plastic overcoat/flowers......

Mixed bag from the judges........

9~8~9 for a total of 26 (their best score so far.....)

"RE: Cristian and Cheryl"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 09:13 PM
Oh my. I may have a fever, and it's not the allergie: My eyesight may go bad, but it.is.not. the dilation.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

I didn't think anyone but Mel B could wear that outfit, but someone sprayed it on Cheryl! And with Cristian in matching "exposure"....muy caliente, indeed!

LAST EDITED ON 04-07-08 AT 09:36 PM (EST)

Jonathan was Shannon's dancing partner for training purposes (Derek injured his neck practicing for the Kylie songs....) .... but Derek can't stay in the chair...... (Doctor's Orders: Rest!)

Dancing the Viennese Waltz to "Keep Holdin' On"?

Derek looked a little stiff during that dance........ (he only took off the neckbrace in time for the dance......)

The judges gave praise, but she was a little hard on herself......

9~10~9 for a total of 28 (That was Len's first 10, and actually the reverse of Kristi/Jason's 29s........)

"RE: Shannon and Derek"
Posted by Snidget on 04-07-08 at 09:23 PM
Nice to see Derek dancing after the injury. I just hope he takes it easy enough that he heals well.

It can be hard to take it easy enough and rest something enough for it to heal, even just in normal life.

"RE: Shannon and Derek"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 09:25 PM
I'm clearly not the most medicated one tonight, poor Derek. It's hard for me to watch when they milk a drama like this.

"Marissa and Tony"
Posted by vince3 on 04-07-08 at 09:32 PM
She's ready to take the bull by the horns (and by bull, she means the judges!)

Dancing the Pasa Doble to our 3rd round of Bullfighting Music!

Finally she channeled her enthusiasm into a good dance!

8~8~8 for a 24 (her best score so far.....)

"RE: Marissa and Tony"
Posted by whimsey on 04-07-08 at 09:36 PM
Marissa needs to give the wardrobe person their puppy back! They are really angry at her. Yeesh.

Where the woman has to have TAPE put over her mouth!!! PALEASEEEE!!!! At least in HER case......here comes my 19th nervous breakdown, or headache, or whatever the heck it was supposed to be. NOT a good way to end the show and head to bed, I gotta tell you!

Not a nice way....all that jumping and screaming. I thought I had jumped into a time capsule and my kids were back home fighting about having to get into their jammies......
