Oscar Delahoya's 'The Next Great Champ' was shot out I could criticise that show all night long.

I still don't know who won

The presedential race knocked 'The Next Great Champ' right out of the ring. Does anyone remember how they kept changing the time and dates to this boxing reality show? I was as lost as a penguin in the desert.

Thank God the people @ NBC thought this out and is letting us know ahead of time that there will be 3 shows before they settle into their original time slot on Sunday nights.

The Contenders first show was great. I did not pay too much attention to the first part as I was surfing the net and I occasionaly glanced over to my t.v set to see what was going on.
I guess I was expecting to hear about Najai Turpin. RIP†
I think many people tunned in because of this. Like lookie loo's on the freeway after a car accident. (We all have to get our peek-on) Pretty good 'hook' because they are not going to air that special episode until later.

The rivalry between Ahmed Kaddour and Ishe Smith caught my attention. I hope they get it on

Ahmed Kaddour cost his team the race by not being able to remember the combonation number to the lock.

That is where it began to get good GO WEST COAST! GO!

Now to pick who shall fight who?
I can not believe the balls on Alfonso Gomez who stepped up and said I will fight Peter Manfredo. Bold move. Caught everyone off guard. I was shocked.
You got to give Alfonso credit for bravery and a very nice boxing performance.
BTW Alfonso lost to a fight to Ishe Smith in 2001. So this should be another great fight if it ever happends.

In closing. Compared to Oscar Delahoya's 'The Next Great Champ',
The Contender gets a 10 for great camera work during the fight.
I was cheering. I got out of my seat. I was also sitting on the edge of my couch.

Peace.

PS who was the kid on the West Coast team that was supposed to fight before Alfonso stepped in? Was it Joey Gilbert? Who ever it was, he looked scared

CIAO

Again, I was not disapointed.

Otis won The Next Great Champ. No title fight, though. But lying to a fighter is par for the course for a boxing promoter.

The show was KOed by disastrous ratings, not the presidential election.

lol I dont remember who Ottis Griffin was. That's sad. Well that is what fox gets for stealing a show. Half fast, half baked = bad cake. Trash.

AyaK, thank you for your response. It looked to me that the presidential race had kicked the show here and there, when in fact it was just dropped due to ratings. ok;)

I think Sunday nights slot set for The Contender should be just fine. (crossing my fingers)

Sorry Ottis, oh before I say anything else welcome to the forum. I guess I am pissed at fox for pulling a show I was trying to watch and chase and eventualy it was pulled right from under me. I was just getting a feel for the show.
I would check my tv guide left and right to see where the show had moved to in the time slot. grrrrrrr

It's true, it's all about the sport. I honestly do not remember you as I looked for pics of you on-line I only found one and well it was in black and white and it looks more like Deon Sanders

and please don't take my flames towards the show personal. The only thing I had invested in the show were a few hours of my time.

Peace

If it serves as any consulation to you, I congratulate you none the less.

Otis,

First off, congratulations. I heard that you had a great performance against James Sundin, with a second-round TKO. BUT...

As I understand it, you did not win the "WBO light heavyweight title." The title that you were given was the "WBO Eight-Round Light Heavyweight champion" -- a title which appears to have been created just for you. The WBO does not even show you in its regular light heavyweight rankings for March '05:

LT. HEAVYWEIGHT (79,38KGS)(175LBS)
World Boxing Organization
March, 2005
Position Name Country
Champion: ZSOLT ERDEI HUN
1. Glencoffe Johnson JAM
2. Antonio Tarver USA
3. Thomas Ulrich (EBU) GER
4. Hugo Garay ARG
5. Alexei Trofimov UKR
6. Tomas Adamek POL
7. Roy Jones, Jr. USA
8. Julio Gonzalez MEX
9. Daniel Judah USA
10. Stipe Drews CRO
11. George Jones USA
12. Silvio Branco ITA
13. Mehdi Sahnoune FRA
14. Elvis Michailenko LAT
15. Anthony Hanshaw USA

I hope that some day you may be the WBO light heavyweight champ, but you aren't there yet.

AyaK

Welcome to the boards, next_gr8! Glad to have you joining us!

It's too bad that FOX had to pull that show and you were never given the chance to be seen on TV like that.

Anyway, it'll be nice to have someone like you here who can give us some inside info about the sport. I look forward to hearing from you more.

... and I wish you the best with your own professional goals.

I agree. That's the thing that really bugged me about "The Next Great Champ", the crappy fight editing. I saw one episode and I was done.
