The first time we see the Obit, at the end of Season 3 when Jack reads it and shows it to Kate before proclaiming "we have to go back". That was just a prop that wasn't meant to be taken literally.The producers confirmed this in one of their podcasts.
I believe they said that was an actual newspaper they used then, but the other times we see it in S4 that's a prop they created for the show.
And yeah, the original said something about a son.
