"What makes you 'Special'?"

Now we have Desmond added to the 'Special' list and yet the characters identified as special seem to have different powers.

Walt:
Can make things he wants, happen. Example: Reading about a bird, the same bird flies into the window. This was before the Island.

Rose:
Cancer is cured. This is on the Island.

Locke:
Spinal cord injury is healed. He spoke with Jacob and Claire.
This is on the Island. However, he did survive an 8 story fall off the island. Also, Richard Alpert suggested he was special as a young child.

Hurley:
Can see dead people. His friend Dave, Charlie, Ana Lucia. This did not appear to have happened prior to the Island. Hurley also saw Jacob's cabin.

Ben:
Can see dead people. Richard Alpert became interested in Ben only after Ben saw his dead mother. However, Ben seems to have lost his mojo. No longer communicates with Jacob, developped a tumour while on the island.

Desmond:
Could see Charlie's future. Appears to time\shift but not physically as the Losties do. Rules of time do not appear to apply to Desomond.

Farraday:
Has appeared in different times as well. Example: during constuction of the Orchid. Is it a coincidence that he can time\shift and he is Desmond constant?

Well Kate saw the horse and Jack and others have seen his father.

But do they all fall into the special camp? Who has actually been told they were special? Walt, Desmond, Locke, Ben? Were the others actually called that? I don't remember.

Does this all have to do with the all the lists? Most likely I guess?

Which reminds me......Desmond told Charlie he had to die for Clair to get on the helicopter to leave the island with Arron. Or did he say he saw Arron on the helicopter and assumed it was in Clair's arm's and not Kate's.....

Anyone want to research that or remember better than me...

I have thought about this too. I am quite certain that Desmond mentioned Claire getting on the helicopter... this does not jive with what happened. Oversight on the writer's part??

I can't believe that the writers would have an oversight. What episode is that, maybe we can find out what exactly Desmond said to Charlie.

Thanks hobbs for finding that.

I have always thought that was a scene from the final episode. I don't necessarily believe Daniel when he says you can't change history.

He did say that and right now it is one of the questions that need to be answered. It was not an oversight but intentional by the writers.

Did he lie? Was it a different future? Remember Desmond saved Charlie several times before he drowned. If Charlie had not communicated with Penny's boat the O6 would not have been rescued. The island may not have even been in the predicament it is in now. So saving Charlie might not have been a good thing.

Or is he talking about an even distant future?
