I'm here! Watching the recap show first just to get myself back into the world and mindset of Lost.I haven't commented much in prior seasons, because I was behind in watching the episodes but this season I'm watching in real time. Woo!

Winter wonderland a la Arkie!
Is this thing on? Where are all the East Coasters? I came here for some spoiler info and ya'll disappeared. Hrmph.![]()
An Arkie original.
but then you'd have to kill meI was going to let tonight's episode be the big decider on continuing to watch or getting lost (heh).
I'll be watching next week. That's all I'm saying

It just went off about 20 minutes ago, so I'm hesitant on what to comment on.Well, here, I'll write a potential spoiler in invisible...
Is it just me? Or does the rescuer look familiar? The guy who parachuted from the helicopter. Charlie reincarnated? Voice doesn't match though. Hmmmm
I can't wait to hear what everyone else has to say.
Wooo Hooooooooo

I had the same thought, batts.

Winter wonderland a la Arkie!
Hello everyone,
Wow, I can't believe it's been 8 months already! I wasn't as impressed with this episode as I have been with the premieres in the past. That being said, I do think this will turn out to be a mind-blowing season.I agree with you Batts. I definitely got a strange vibe during that scene. Was it my imagination, or did he and Jack stare at each other awfully hard?
Anyways, the one thing that really caught my interest was Hurley's little trek in the jungle. Was he running from Locke, or did he see who I think he saw when he looked in the window?
![]()
>or did he see
>who I think he saw
>when he looked in the
>window?I think he saw two people when he looked in the window....first Jacob in the rocking chair and then Locke staring back at him through the window.
Farmie
Because they can pull it off the air for months and the minute they air a repeat of last season's finale, I watch it like a bloody fool. Then I rewind and watch it again. Next day comes the recap which I watch in its entirety. Finally the new episode is on and I am mezmerized for 40 minutes, afraid to fast forward through the commercials in case I miss a few seconds of the show. The minute the episode is over I go into withdrawal and start counting down the minutes until next weeks episode. Now I have to watch the new episode again.Whatever am I going to do when Lost goes off the air for good? I'll probably go catatonic and end up in an institution talking to an imaginary Hurly. ;)
I have never been diagnosed with any type of obsessive compulsive disorder - it is the show's fault. Lost is evil, evil I tell you.
The secret is never tell anyone the secret.
ARRRRRRR!!!!
"whatever am I going to do" cycles2k, you can move into the cabin with Jaboc.
YowzaThe actor playing Hurley did a great job and I was suprised that the premiere led off with a Hurley-centric episode!
Creepiness: "Charlie" swimming and breaking the glass in the police station, Jacob and the guy who visted Hurley to ask if there were other survivors.
Who are the Oceanic 6?
Did Jack or Locke do the right thing? According to Hurley it looks like Jack did?
How does this fit in with other clues from the 1t 3 seasons?
I like that the police officer asked about Ana Lucia.
What was Dharma studying again? I think I may need to revisit those things to explain maybe Charlie's appearance.
If I understood correctly, the Oceanic Six got off of the island, but there are still people on the island who are alive. Charley was reminding Hurley of those survivors, which is what made Hurley tell Jack that they needed to go back. (And did he say, "He wants us to come back"? As in Jacob? And why the heck could Hurley see Jacob?Final question: if Hurley goes with Locke, how is he rescued with Jack and Kate?
*whispers* Who was Jacob?I quit watching and started back up the other night.
the person/thing/whatever that is telling Ben what to do
Agman's like a brother, Your best friend forever, Making the sigs, the sigs that you like.
Ack! this show drives me nuts! When will they ever answer some questions!!!Ok- so Hurley's flash-forward occurs before Jack's FF- what sends Jack over the edge? Yeah Charlie looked really different.
Did you catch from the pop-up video episode that the doctor in the Jack episode has the same last name as Rose and Bernard- their son maybe?
So did Hurley see Jacob and was Locke in there with him? That part was very creepy. How does Hurley end up rescued when he went with Locke?

Great episode. I liked the Hurley-centric episode, and liked the recurring questions about Hurley's sanity. Just what is real and what exists only in Hurley's mind? Also liked the flash-forward to the cleanshaven Jack in the basketball gym, establishing the timing as earlier than other flash-forwards with a disheveled, substance-abusing, frantic Jack.Good stuff. I'll be back next week.

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/lost/lost-easter-eggs-episode-41-th-16288.aspxThat eye...is that Hurley's own eye looking back at him?
Good article, too!
I was helping dd with homework during Lost, so I didn't get to give it my undivided attention, but that was a great introduction to what is to come. LOVED the Hurley-centric episode. He's always been one of my favorites (he's a great actor, plus I love his character).I really need to catch up on last season more. I watched Wednesday night's replay, but I'm still forgetting so much.
My main questions after last night:
Who are the Oceanic 6?
Obviously we know who 3 of them are for sure, but who are the other 3? And can we assume that whomever's funeral they went to in FF was one of them? I started thinking the 6 are most likely to be the 'main' characters: Jack, Hurley, Kate, Locke, Sawyer, and ??? - Sayid seems to have been relegated to a secondary character since some time in season 2. Same with Claire. I doubt it's Jin, Sun, Rose, or Bernard. Could be Michael (with assumptions about it being his funeral, that might make sense).
What is Jack worried about Hurley "telling"?
WTF is real in Hurley world?
WTF is the creepy guy claiming to be an Oceanic lawyer?
WTF is the guy who parachuted in to 'rescue' the lostaways?
ITA with those above who said he was eerily familiar (definitely got a Charlie vibe from him...I thought I was nuts)When is Sun going to start showing?
![]()
Jack is tired of and the secret he doesn't want Hurley to tell are one and the same: that there were other survivors of that flight and for some reason they are not supposed to divulge that.Just my theory.
LAST EDITED ON 02-01-08 AT 09:52 PM (EST)Good questions PM. I thought they said that they were going to answer a question every episode this season! Seems like just as many questions arose this time around too.
Knowing all the twists that the writers put in, I don’t think we can guess the Oceanic 6 correctly! Last night when Rose was so emphatic about not going with Locke, I wondered if she left the island and that was her funeral (her cancer returned when she left the protection of the island). One question would be why wasn’t Bernard at the funeral, or Walt if it was Michael? I also assume that Juliet leaves because she and Jack have been attached at the hip lately. Sun would also be desperate to leave the island to have her baby. Now I’m at more than six people and we still don’t know how Hurley hooks back up with Jack. Lost isn’t predictable and that’s why I love it.
I’ve always loved Hurley’s character and the “what is real” and “what isn’t real” in his world adds to the uncertainty. Ironically, I think he’s pretty astute even though he’s taken refuge in the loony bin (he could tell that that creepy lawyer wasn’t for real, no pun intended).
I went and watched the portion with the parachute guy again. He has a very familiar face, but I don't think it's Dominic Monaghan. I agree with moonie that Jack is talking about the survivors left stranded on the island.
The one thing that disappointed me was that Danielle wasn’t featured in the Lost recap – that means probably her story won’t be covered in these 8 episodes.
She intrigues me too.
Thanks zombs and moonie for the links. They were very interesting.
I went and watched the portion with the parachute guy again. He has a very familiar face, but I don't think it's Dominic Monaghan. You're right with your guess. It's not charlie.
It's Jeremy Davies.
Here's a shot of the actor from his part in "Rescue Dawn". (Good movie by the way. Nothing to do with Lost of course but still a good movie.)His name was revealed in the casting news trigirl brought to us here.
Hurley is one, obviously.Jack is one, apparently. He returned to his old life, his real identity.
Kate? Why isn't she in prison? Was she given a new identity? If so wouldn't her Oceanic 815 survival be a secret? Maybe, maybe not.
Desmond and Juliette, no, they weren't on the flight. Same for Ben, Danielle, Alex, and so on.
Jin and Sun want off the island but also want a new life, new identities for them as well? Sawyer, adopting new identities is part of what he does.
Rose and Bernard have a reason to stay but no reason to conceal their survival. Clair? No reason now to return, no reason not to, but trading in that Golden Pass for a new ID and a secure job or something, would she be that savvy? Sayid probably would be, find his lady love to sweeten the deal. Michael?
Wouldn't a funeral of one of the Oceanic 6 have garnered some more media attention than "a guy from New York died in LA today..."?
But yeah, Hurley definately, Jack probably.
I posted a spoiler about who the Oceanic 6 were in the Spoiler thread.Wouldn't a funeral of one of the Oceanic 6 have garnered some more media attention than "a guy from New York died in LA today..."?
I agree. I no longer think that we know the guy in the coffin. I think it is a character we haven't met yet...unless it is Michael and he isn't considered one of the Oceanic 6 because he got off the island a different way. If Michael show up in a Flash Forward then I think we can assume he is coffin-boy. If he shows up on the island then not.

LAST EDITED ON 02-05-08 AT 02:02 AM (EST)There was an article I read where Naveen (Sayid) was quoted as saying the Oceanic 6 may be officially six but...
finally relocated it...
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Todays-News/Losts-Oceanic-Six/800032247"There's something quite intriguing (about the Oceanic Six) in that maybe there are only officially six," Sayid's portrayer shared. "Maybe there are more who they couldn't reveal to the outside world but are either still on the island or somewhere else, and why."
I noticed Harold Perrineau (the actor who played Michael and was missing as a cast regular last season) showed up on the cast list of regulars this year. This makes me speculate about his role and when we will see him.Didn't Naomi talk to someone named Michael on the freighter? Could this be the same Michael?
I still think "our" Michael is a likely candidate for the body in the coffin in Jack's FF.
LAST EDITED ON 02-01-08 AT 03:40 PM (EST)I agree with you on the coffin bit. Michael is still my first choice.
My Lostie pal at work also told me he noticed John Terry's name in the credits last night and he plays Jack's dad.
ETA: Well, duh. Moonbaby's linked article above points out the John Terry credit. I won't tell my work pal that, though.

Here are some of my thoughts:I think the key scene was Hurley seeing Jacob in the cabin: Could Hurley be "more special" than Locke who only heard Jacob but didn't see him? Hurley told Jack: "IT wants us to go back". Does Hurley see Jacob as the conscience of the island?
The people we know who went with Locke are: Danielle, Ben, Alex, Carl, Hurley, Sawyer and Claire with her baby. The others were extras. Of the ones we know, only Locke, Hurley, Sawyer and Claire can be considered as the "Oceanic 6". So, with Jack and Kate, who we know made it back and are famous, we have our 6.
With the "Oceanic attorney" wanting to know: "Are THEY still alive?" Charlie telling Hurley "THEY need you" and Hurley asking Jack if he came to see him because he was worried he was gonna tell, I'm thinking the "Oceanic 6" left the island only by condemning the rest to stay or even die. Something like what happened when Micheal left. The Oceanic 6 need to hide what really happened. That would go with Hurley denying knowing Ana Lucia.
I'm thinking the Oceanic Attorney is associated with either the people on the boat and/or Dharma. He wants the people on the island dead.
ETA: Naomie talked to a "George" on the boat not Michael.
Jin and Sun (I'm pretty sure) also stayed with Jack and Kate as did Bernard and Rose because Rose didn't want to go with "that man" meaning Locke. Then there was Sayid, Juliet and Desmond. I assumed they went with Locke but I don't know for sure. Right now it's anybody's guess who the other 3 are because it didn't matter that Hurley went with Locke. I would guess that Jin and Sun make it off the island because it would seem that she would do anything to have her baby in a hospital and not die during her pregnancy on the island.I thought the same thing about Hurley denying knowing Ana Lucia. At first, I thought he just couldn't handle it and he said that because he didn't want to talk about it but then creepy lawyer guy comes along.
I liked this premiere a lot. Much better than the season 3 premiere. If they keep the episodes like last night, this will be a great season and will forgive the not so great season 3.

From what I saw Jin, Sun, Bernard, Rose, Sayid, Juliet and Desmond all stayed with Jack and Kate. None were shown making a move towards Locke.
I agree that the key scene was Hurley seeing Jacob in the cabin. That puts Hurley in the same category as Ben, Locke and Walt as being "special."On the basketball court, Hurley said to Jack something like, "I'm sorry Jack. I should have gone with you instead of Locke." Something must happen between Locke's group and Jack's group in front of the "rescuers" that determines who gets off the island. Then we need to find out who makes them (the Oceanic 6) keep the secret. Jack, Kate, Hurley and ??? make a deal to get off the island if they don't say anything and that causes guilt to build up in some of the six. And I'm sure there is way more to the deal than we can imagine so far!
I'm
>thinking the "Oceanic 6" left
>the island only by condemning
>the rest to stay or
>even die.Or maybe they were told they HAD to leave or the rest would be harmed/killed.

Agman took me to the islands
I think that the Oceanic 6 soon discover their rescuers are not so kind and lie to keep the others safe.

LAST EDITED ON 02-01-08 AT 05:05 PM (EST)I will first say that I am a big time spoiler lover so I pretty much knew what was going to happen in this episode but it didn't matter as it still blew me away. My dh came in the mid-show and said "are you going to say *oh wow!* throughout the whole show?" (To which I replied I hope so!)
I love that we saw Charlie and he seemed so confident and at peace- I also noticed he didn't have his ring on. I will miss his character if he stops showing up in flashes.
As for eye in the window my two guesses when I first saw it was Desmond or Hurley seeing his own eye.
![]()
See, I told you the show was evil. Now it has married women checking out Charlie's ring finger. Oh the humanity.
I love that we saw Charlie and he seemed so confident and at peace- I also noticed he didn't have his ring on. I will miss his character if he stops showing up in flashes. He gave his ring to Claire and Aaron. Good catch.
As for eye in the window my two guesses when I first saw it was Desmond or Hurley seeing his own eye.
I immediately thought of Desmond as well. The eye seemed very dark and did not look anything like Locke...I thought.
Interesting how Jacob looks like Christian to Hurley but he looked like Magnus Hanso (or a pirate) to Locke. Does Jacob manifest himself as he sees fit?

Interesting how Jacob looks like Christian to Hurley but he looked like Magnus Hanso (or a pirate) to Locke. Does Jacob manifest himself as he sees fit?I found this confusing as well. Hurley doesn't know Christian or that he's Jack/Claire's dad so why use that character? I think it must have something to do with unanswered questions we have about the dead on the island.

In the last episode of the last season (through the looking glass) I was quite bothered by the sight of Charlie crossing himself while drowing - and more than because he was drowning. I finally realized that he used his left hand to cross himself. This is probably old news to some of the more knowledgeable Lost fans but I didn't notice it till the repeat with the hints. Does anybody here know if it had any relevance?PS: I'm also convinced that the show is broadcasting waves that turn viewers into Lost addicts. Must be some type of videodrome thing.
That explains it. I honestly did not notice that he did it left handed but I did notice that he did the cross backwards. Doing it left handed explains that.![]()
An Arkie original.
I had watched that scene of his crossing himself and was bothered about it each time but couldn't figure out why. Now I realize it was because he was using his left hand. Could this somehow be related to "Through the Looking Glass"? In other words, it's the mirror image of what it should be?I'll have to look again though and check if it truly is a mirror image.
>That explains it. I honestly did
>not notice that he did
>it left handed but I
>did notice that he did
>the cross backwards. Doing it
>left handed explains that.Same here Knockers. I didn't notice he did it left handed, but I did notice how he reversed the last 2 points of his cross on his heart.

Assuming the character is Catholic rather than Orthodox it did look like he did it in the Catholic order with the left hand.If he was Orthodox he did it completely mirror, but I don't think the character is likely to be Orthodox, and they usually cross themselve 3 times in a row.
We went to an Orthodox church as a field trip during a religion course in college. They had a joke about why they do it three times. The Catholic way the right hand ends up on the right side and you can just drop it. With the Orthodox way the hand is on the left and across the body so you end up doing it two more times because you can't just drop the arm so easily.
Agman's like a brother, Your best friend forever, Making the sigs, the sigs that you like.
"The Catholic way the right hand ends up on the right side and you can just drop it"
Exactly, Snidge. But Charlie's left hand ended on the left side, not the right.
So maybe there is something to that and he WAS doing the mirror image of it.
![]()
An Arkie original.
I rewatched the video again and Charlie's left hand did end on the right side. That is the traditional way it is done by Catholics and Anglicans (Episcopaleans). It was not a mirror image, it was just that he used his left hand instead of his right hand.
Okay, glad that is cleared up. I'm not sure why I thought he ended on the left side. Not taht any of this matters to the show. LOL
![]()
An Arkie original.
I think the left hand could be part of the "through the looking glass" thing.I just find if I try to cross myself with my left hand without thinking about what I am doing with the hand I'll do it like Charlie did it rather than pure mirror image. Like the brain cares more about where the body is touched than how the arm is moving to do it.
I have to think about it to do a complete mirror image.
Different people might have the "body memory" of that action stored in different ways so I may not be the best test case.
Agman's like a brother, Your best friend forever, Making the sigs, the sigs that you like.
Last night I watched a special, Lost Answers. It was probably a repeat because it dealt with season 3 but I did not see it before. Anyway, I was reminded that Desmond had a vision and told Charlie that he saw Claire and Aaron get into a helicopter. So I'll stick Claire in the list as a possible Oceanic 6. Not sure if Aaron would count as one or is he together with Claire?
![]()
Siggie courtesy of Seana
I read a theory somewhere (this one I'm not going to bother searching to find again) that Claire wouldn't count as one of the six because she's Australian and Americans would only care about American survivors. I think that logic is terribly flawed. However, it might be that Claire and Aaron count as one since he hadn't been born at the time of the crash (sort of the way there were actually eight in the original Seven Soldiers of Victory).Hey, what about Carol? That's her name, right, the Oceanic air hostess who was one of the tailies?
Hey, what about Carol? That's her name, right, the Oceanic air hostess who was one of the tailies?Do you mean Cindy that was with The Others?
