I've noticed at times there is a jerkiness to some screen shots. Often they occur when there is alot of action (i.e. when Sayid & Mr. Eko are fighting) but other times too. Is this just some new technique in cinematography or is there some significance to it?

Sounds kinda like the "Stephen Bochco" School of Cinematography.

They have had that since the first episode. It seems to be a hand held camera or something like that.I think they use it to create a sense of confusion or heighten it.

Yes there is that camcorder type feel at times but what I'm talking about is not just a shakiness but more like a strobe...the picture isn't continuous. An example is when the legs were walking by Jin & Mr. Eko. I tried to slo-mo but my decrepit old VCR couldn't provide decent resolution.You're right, it could just be used to increase the confusion or maybe this show has made me question EVERYTHING & I'm slowly going mental!
