"Saeed in Australia"

I may have missed it, but do we know why Saeed was in Australia. I know why everyone else was in Australia beofe the plane trip (i.e., retreving a dead dad, on the lamb fromt he law, trying to convince a brother to return to his band), but I don't remember any background stroy that explained why Saeed was there.

Did i miss it? Can someone tell me why he was there?

While in an airport somewhere, he is flagged and questioned by ASIS and CIA about some missing explosives. He protests that he isn't a terrorist, but the man they suspect of terrorist activities is Sayid's former college roommate. They convince Sayid to go to Australia and gather intel/recover the explosives/whatever. He says no way, and they show him a photo of Nadia and tell him they will let him know where she is if he helps. So he goes to Australia.

I just did a quick read thru on the episode guide and there was no indications to why he was on the plane.

I thought maybe he was escaping Saddam's regime but he already said Saddam would kill his family. Unless he fled after Saddam was captured because he himself would have been wanted as a soldier of Saddam.

Or if we assume the story takes place years before then the Saddam being captured plot wouldn't work.

Call me stumped. Don't know.

ETA - But I knew there would be someone along to enlighten.

He was on the plane because he complied with the CIA's demands and they gave him a rough idea of where Nadia was (LA) and a plane ticket to get him there.

Actually, they gave him an earlier flight, and he pushed for a later one (flight 815) so he could bury his friend.

(ETA: This is all from "The Greater Good" episode, should you have access to Season 1 eps.)

I think they were talking about the flight he was on when he was first taken into custody by the CIA. That we don't know yet.
