Did anyone else catch Simon on the Celebrity Apprentice finale tonight? (Or am I the only fool still watching The Apprentice?) The event was a charity auction and Piers Morgan (that doesn't look right) phoned Simon to bid on a portrait of Ivanka Trump. I think he went up to $100K for it, not sure if he won it or not.
Simon ponied up $100 grand to have a "diamond shopping experience" with Ivanka Trump. Does that mean she helps him pick out diamonds? His bid won, btw.Simon has been building a $60 million dollar home in London.
Compare a $100,000 contribution from someone who is building a $60M home to someone who has a $250,000 home making a $416 contribution. It's the same ratio. Gives it some context!
Simon was recently on Oprah and do nated $160,000 to a family whose child has cancer and the family was struggling to make their mortgage payments. So he must be getting comfortable enough with his wealth to start showing his giving side.
I liked the point Trace A made last night about the people who were at the charity auction were from different levels of wealth and it was a lot easier for a billionaire to donate $100,000 than for some of his friends to donate what they did.
Thanks, zazzy, for the clarification. I admit, I wasn't paying much attention during the actual auction! I was actually feeling obligated to watch the finale, since I'd watched the rest of the season, but I found my mind wandering . . . . just glad the season's over. I don't like "celebrity" versions of my reality shows!I agree that you have to evaluate generosity based on the relative income or net worth of the person and I'm glad Simon is making enough $$ to give some of it away! Personally? I should be giving much more than I am to others less fortunate.
I had sworn off the Apprentice a few seasons ago and particularly after the misogynostic things Trump said about women when fighting with Rosie...but a friend kept talking about it this season so I watched a couple of the later eps and then last night's finale so we could dish about Piers and Omarosa,.
Piers kept making himself look really bad but you could tell that he was going to win. I guess patriotism is "in" right now; shrewd of Piers to wrap himself in the American flag (so to speak)... and am grateful for his raising money for a group that really needs it.
Trace A. did himself proud and I have to hand it to Trump--he gives the celebs a lot of exposure. Marilou H said she had friends who wanted to do the program...so I guess there is no end of Trump preening for us. At least charity wins.
