"Kristy Lee reinterprets it all for you."

Imagine what's going to happen if she reaches Metal Week. 'I decided to do Enter Sandman because the name made me think of fairy princesses. But I really don't understand the lyrics and I don't think it's supposed to be performed the way the original artists did it, so I've decided to perform it -- as a square dance! Exit light round and round, enter night, twirl it to the ground!'

Try not to think about what she'd do to Nirvana. Just try.

Metal Week would be hilarious though!

I was thinking...let them do Elvis now. That's the week that sunk Daughtry.

Randy, in an interview, asserted that the winner needs to be able to sing anything. Anything. Well. And that some just can't and that's what separates the winners from the rest. He said each of the previous AI winners could sing anything well.

And David A showed us he is not "the winner".

However, his early pimping has really deep roots with the voters. There are people voting to defend him, excusing him. Diana Degarmo and Jordin held it together, even though they were "just 17".

But heavy metal would be quite the test as well! Lol!

The sad thing is she asked for her mom's advice as to what to sing. I mean come one, how old is the mom and does she not know any better when it comes to a Beatles song.

Kristy just put country music back 20 years!! Yee Hawww

When I was watching her sing that song, I was thinking that it actually could work as a country song, but only if it was done at the right tempo. The way she arranged that song was completely wrong. But slow it down and really simplify the accompaniment, add some vocal twang, and I think you could do a
"decent" country version. But the way she did it was just all wrong from the very first note.

ITA. It would make a nice country song, but NOT as a hoe-down.

Here's an eye-opener:

I currently am the absolute oldest possible age for Idol eligibility, and I have no memories of John Lennon's death.

But the youngest contestants like David are barely old enough to remember LINDA MCCARTNEY'S death.

It's a new day, it's a new life, it's a new world...and I'm feelin' OLD.

The new maximum is seventeen?

Running joke, people. Move along.

Actually, she could have draped herself in a flag, covered that with yellow ribbons, plastered a McCain bumper sticker across her forehead, and finished it all up with a crown of lit sparklers in her hair. And since she didn't do any of that, you could argue that she didn't go as far as she could have gone in openly pandering to her fanbase and trying to push every button she was capable of seeing. But other than that...

And the worst part? I like that song.

For a girl that's been in the bottom 2/3 every.single.week this has to be one of the most clever song selections by any contestant ever. She just literally puckered up to the a*ses of the entire viewing audience of AI. I bet her lips were chapped this morning.

Ha! But how will she top herself next week? Maybe she'll sing "Angry American" while torching a pile of Dixie Chicks memorabilia.

Meanwhile, kudos to David A. for going after the previously ignored middle aged gay man vote, considering he picked a gay pride song from the early 90s. I can't believe no one remembers that song. Heart recorded it. Seriously.

It's on my iPod. Shut up!

Well it worked for me. First time this season I voted and I voted a lot.

It is impossible to contemplate the fabric of the world without recognizing the admirable order of its arrangement and the certain manifestation of God in the perfection of its correlations. Reason, when once it had considered and admired so much beauty and so much perfection, feels a just indignation at the dauntless folly which dares ascribe all this to chance and happy accident. it must be that the Highest wisdom conceived the plan and Infinite power carried it into execution....The starry sky above me and the moral law within me are two things which fill the soul with ever increasing admiration and reverence. It's the 'loving a sub-par singer because she sings a poorly-rendered song that happens to mention your country' part that's the problem.

So...if I didn't like her performance it means I hate the USA? Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.

*sits with Bullzeye*

I did not hate her performance so much as the song and what it has been attached/associated with/to. Hating the song does not mean you hate the USA.

IMO a song that means more to me would be "Pink Houses" by John Mellencamp.

No, I think if you didn't like her performance last night it means that you prefer your singers have some talent and originality! IMO she has yet to really show either.

Should Kristy make to the week when Neil Diamond mentors the group, she will sing America.

Anyone want to bet against that?

No bet, unless you include a spread of some sort. Like, "Yes, she will sing that, including the 'My Country 'Tis Of Thee' part near the end."

That would be for Dolly Parton week!

Speaking of, I think the odds of Kristy Lee doing "America" are about the same as hearing Syesha do "I Will Always Love You" next week.

Just remind me to hit mute before the group version of "Islands in the Stream" next Wednesday.

I know I'm in the minority of Kristy, but last night was defintiely her strongest of the competition so far. Great song choice, good vocals, perfect lyrics for her.

You can pour your soul out singin'
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yeah sing it anyway

I sing
I dream
I love anyway

I agree that it was one of her stronger performances but part of me (the non-objective part), thinks that it was due to the less than stellar performances of most of the other contestants.

I don't dislike Kristy - as a matter of fact, she was one of my early favorites. I think she is very pretty, and I think she has a tremendous voice. I think where is falls down for me is that she is strongest in the country genre - something I have never enjoyed. So for me, she usually pales in comparison to the others who are typically singing a style I prefer. I feel the same way about both Brooke and David A - I give a ton of credit to their talent - just don't love their styles.

But didn't Kathrine McFee have a tough time the first few weeks that she was on? I know not for as long as Kristy, that's for sure, but if I remember correctly, it looked like she might be going home those first few weeks, then she made a HUGE come back, and look where she ended up!

I honestly don't think it was just last night, I see her getting stronger, and some of the others (Micheal, Brooke, David A) standing in the same place they were weeks ago. They are just so one-dimensional that whatever genre they're given, they do the same thing over and over. Which makes them more and more boring-to me, anyway.

That's just MY humble opinion.

I would LOVE to see her move up, and maybe even move over a few of the ones who are just not getting it, have felt that they were 'all that', and that nothing could touch them. That's what AI is all about, again, my personal opinion!

No surprise--I disagree with you on Michael . Last week he got a lot of props from the judges and media for his bluesy, soulful rendition of It's All Wrong But It's All Right. Now they just want more of that all the time.

Kat did grow better, but I wouldn't compare her to KLC. Unfortunately, Kat hasn't done all that well musically since AI. Hopefully, she'll turn it around.
