I've thought about this several times, and have to think that she would get pretty far. She was a great performer. Imagine her out there dancing around the stage - it's unprecidented (except maybe by Travis Tucker.) She would probably have trouble with some of the theme weeks, because her style was so very pop. Probably not a good enough voice to win, but top 4 easily.I always wish someone would sing one her her songs. Why not on 80's week, at least? They were great songs, at the time.
"(I just started a thread on the AI forum. I am having the weirdest day...)" Now, go take a shower, Estee!

Paula was a dancer/Laker Girl who got into the music industry by choreographing videos for other artists.
She's charismatic, probably a nice person, probably easy to work with, so in the relatively new MTV era, some genius decided to give her a record deal.
How many times have the judges told contestants that the dancing was fun, but this is a singing contest?
On her recordings, the voice was very small - little-girlish even, the range required was small.
PLUS...don't forget that there was some to-do about a studio singer wanting more credit because she was used to beef up Paula's sound. So we don't really know if what was recorded was 100% Paula.
In addition, we all know that they work miracles in studios...that's why so many "singers" work with tracks in concert -- they can't repeat the vocal performance from their recordings without electronic help that a mic can't give.
(edited to add: *sigh* The Buggles were right, video killed the radio star)
To be fair, alot of my favorite artists would never make it on AI. Not that Paula is one of my favorites, & not that I hate Paula ('cause I don't).
