"Parents should run and hide"

Posted by joan265336 on 12-03-03 at 00:19 AM
I have never in my life seen two young women act so badly. I am so glad that my daughter could be taken into any situation and act as a LADY. Having money is no excuse for such POOR behavior. I never watch this type of program. This time it actually looked intresting. Till I watched the first night. I will NOT watch any more of it. I also have never posted any thing till now. But I felt this was so discusting I just had to take the time to find some place to let people know just how bad it was/is. These women need to learn what real life is and how to respect others and them selves. To bad the parents, teachers and every one else in there lives have let them down. Mostly the girls are letting them selves down showing the world there ignorance!

I thought the girls tried to be polite.
They are completely out of their element. Arkansas is more foreign to them then a another country. AND, they know they are on a TV show.

I can't believe I'm defending them. But the Well in the floor thing would have thrown me too, and June Bugs are scary and don't belong in the house.

I think it's going to be fun to see P & N interact with the local people. The story is a fish out of water tale afterall, and it's going to be played up that way.

Hey, most of the counties in Arkansas are dry.....that's the main thing.

No most of them are not, a good deal yes but not "most". I have lived here all my life (35 years) and only 40 min from Altus and Altus as well as Ozark where alot of the scenes are shot are BOTH wet and have clubs and bars.

Sorry to be so general....I was a bank examiner right after college for a year in Arkansas and traveled all over the state. It just seemed like we always had to drive to the next or next to next county.

I missed ti, but from what I heard, the girls actually behaved pretty well. At least better than most people expected them to.

Wow...I was pleasantly suprised how well the girls behaved. They acted like any other 22-year-olds who would have been put in that situation! I thought the farm people were way ruder. I mean, what percentage of Americans would really help pluck a chicken? Ewwwwwww, not me! I was prepared to be disgusted, but I liked the girls and thought they were very funny.

"I mean, what percentage of Americans would really help pluck a chicken? Ewwwwwww, not me!"

Count me among the non-chicken plucker percentage of Americans!

My take on the scene was FOX setting it up with Grandma Clucker (I mean Clutter) and the chicken plucking. I don't think Grams was the one who planned the set up. Although, I did feel she was genuinely miffed that the girls wouldn't at least watch! LOL

I think the girls were rude to the grandmother and should be ashamed of how they reacted to her. They could have handled it much better. Also they could have said yes. They are guests in that home so they need to try to do what their hosts ask of them.
As far as them being treated like teenagers I don't get that unless you are talking about the curfew. I think that is because first they have to get up and go to work and also them coming in late can disturb the rest of the family. Besideds midnight is not that early. Again they are the guests and should abide by the rules.

I honestly think alot of that is all 4 show to make it more entertaining....I think the producers wanted them be be bratty and outrageous !!!

I wonder if the farm family will bring them to church on Sunday... talk about the barbies being out of their element.

To tell you the truth, I really dont understand why this show is getting tour head in such a negative way. Its just a reality show. I'm sure the directors and producers of the show wanted Paris and Nicole to act as bratty as they could be so they could get good ratings. Good ratings means money. I guess everybody has there own opinion about things, I just think you are just taking this a little overboard because its just a t.v. show for entertainment. You know, alot of people dig this kind of stuff and I think its a great idea for a reality t.v. I think its hilarious.

I have never written to one of these before & I never watch reality TV.... But saw Nicole on a morning talk show & wondered what she had learned, so decided to watch.
Just wondered thru the entire show?? How embarressed are their parents??
$1500. for a bag?? that is a car for most teenagers & would bring clean water or food to an entire village
I actually felt sorry for these girls & think that a few weeks working in a 3rd World Country would do them a world of good...
Maybe a mission trip some day for some real "reality".

I agree with you, but someone first take them to Wal-Mart and buy them some jeans that cover there behinds right!

I was laughing at what a big deal the family was making of their clothes. I am from around there and believe me MOST teenage girls dress in thongs and low cut jeans. I do not like the look either but thought it staged how they made the Ledings seem so "shocked" at the way they dress. Arkansas is not behind the times on fashion.

Well, everywhere is a bit behind NY and LA, but we've seen those clothes for sure.

"Butt Jeans"
Posted by Drive My Car on 12-03-03 at 10:52 PM

Naw, I was at my local Wally World last week trying to find a pair of jeans for my 11 yr old daughter and they were all low-rise, butt showing jeans. Even the little little girl sizes, were hip huggers. Dang, that makes me mad. No one needs their ass crack showing, and least of all little girls.

What were we talking about again? Oh yes, Paris and her $800 jeans. Poor Paris, she doesn't even know that cheap jeans can be just as bad fitting.

Sad too that she will probably never know. Ahhhh the joys of a bargain on a clearance rack at Wallyworld!! Yeeehawwww!!

To my Texan neighbor!! Howdy right back!! ;)
Yes every state is a little behind NY and LA but most of the time I don't consider that a bad thing!!

Well I come from a unique perspective, because although I love my little ( pop. 6000) town where there are more cows and churches than people, I lived the first 28 yrs of my life in Southern Calif. I'm an L.A. girl at heart. ( I miss the mountains and beaches more than the crowds)

I have to say that small communties have their charms, though I'd never be caught dead cleaning cow sh*t. I love the warmth and caring found in the quieter parts of the country.

And to defend the girls, I'd be just as out of place on Rodeo Drive, and they would be at a Rodeo.

The point of the show isn't that they are spoiled B*tches, the point is that the very rich are different than the rest of us. They see the world differently.

Thank goodness these girls seem to have a sense of humor about their adventure.

Hope you were Welcomed to our community Katie! It's a fun place.

Thanks Drive!!
I have been around a year or so but do not post often unless it is something I am really interested in. I have dual reasons for being interested. My great great grandmother was a Hilton. I am really not making that up. When my grandmother died 3 years ago we had a family member come that does the geneology for our family. Also I live 40 minutes or so from Altus and have also lived in that area for several years. So I HAD to see this show!
I am glad to find someone that sees it both ways as well. I know those girls are like a fish outta water just like I would be at some Hollywood banquet or premiere etc.. just like these Altus folks cannot help but stare at "them there movie stars!!" LOL
I feel sorry for them so far. They are 22 and being treated like teens!

They are 22 and being treated like teens!

No kidding!!!
That struck me too! These young women have travelled the world by themselves and here they are being treated like children. ( granted they are self indulgent rich girls who are treated like royalty wherever they go)

This reality show was made for you! *giggle*

Was it me, or was the guys standing around Nicole at the BBQ thing way too uncomfortable? Where were the other women? She was trying so hard to make small talk, and they were all just staring at her. Probably a set up scene, but I felt bad for her.

( Oh and I post as Drive My Car, but everyone calls me Buggy, please do)

I've lived in AR all of my life and i'm so glad that the show was filmed here! we never get any publicity so i hope the show portrays how friendly people are here and how beautiful the Ozarks are so maybe people will realize that we don't all live in trailers and we DO wear shoes!!
