Although for you all, this won't strike the dread fear in your hearts quite like it does for Mr. Coconut.

Anyway, we had a table at the community garage sale to raise money for our St. John Ambulance brigade. As I was sitting there, I saw a little black kitten run out from under a parked car. She was obviously terrified; she kept running back and forth, in and out of the street.

Turns out some jerk was selling kittens and, since this was the last one he had, he just left her there when he packed up to go home.

I think you can guess the outcome. I grabbed her and took her home. And here she is, large as life. It took her about two hours to settle in, and, three days later, has taken over the house. There's only one cat left that doesn't like her, and it's coming along.

She is the funniest-looking litle beast; she's all black, but her ears are absolutely enormous, she has a Roman nose, and her eyes are orangey-brown. Also, some idiot cut off her whiskers, so she looks a little patchy. Still, she's charming and very affectionate.

I mean, we need another cat like we need a hole in the head (although because we have lost two, it brings our total to four, which is one less than the beginning of the summer), but I couldn't just leave her in the street. I know I should find her another home, but I can't shake the (admittedly irrational) feeling that Dudu sent her. I know it is not possible, but I can't bear to let her go. And Mr. Coconut, for all that he was mad for twelve hours, has now completely fallen for her too.

Anyway, what should I name the little monster? I wanted to call her Perdita, both because she was lost and because I got her the day Perdita Felicien won her gold medal at the World Championships, but it just doesn't fit her at all. Help!

Perdita is a fabulous name! Call her that but have a nickname. You have a big heart Coco.

in 101 Dalmatians,wasnt the mother dogs name Perdita? They called her Purdy. seems like a great cat name!

Actually, Pepe, when she was exploring the porch she brushed up against something and she had a white spot on her nose and a big stripe down one side.. you would have loved it

*BIG SMOOCHIES* to you Coco for bringing the kitty home with you. We still have little Biba indoors (bringing our total indoor cats to five). I just can't bring myself to send him outdoors yet. My DH was holding him last night and playing with him and I was laughing, thinking of you and your kitty sports. I couldn't remember them all, just the velcro and curling sports LOL. I like the name shortened to Purdy and also like Pene. Penny reminds me too much of Stephen King's IT (Pennywize).

Well, it's not like it is excessively altruistic. There's nothing much cuter than a kitten, really. And one cat more or less doesn't make THAT much difference.

Besides, I wanna be just like you.

I would have taken one of your kittens if I had lived within shouting distance. However, it would have taken some explaining to tell Mr. Coconut exactly how I acquired a cat from the U.S. Easier to pick up a stray in the street. That way she needs me, right?
