After watching John Walsh, he asked people to write their congressman to vote for the bill for the Amber Alert System. I plan on doing it. I will be back with links.

Most definitly!

I posted an Amber Alert here last week regarding the girl from Michigan who is missing. Any time I see an Amber Alert I pass it on just in case someone out there has info.

Right now I believe it's just used on a State level with no true communication between each state. This legislation will make it Nationwide so that there can be interstate communication during the critical minutes and hours when someone could be take across state lines.

We've been using the Amber Alert in Texas for a while so I think we just assume every state uses it.

New York State recently enacted the Amber Alert program. We have an official Amber Alert radio station and I heard it has already helped recover a child!

What is this "Congress" thing you speak of?
And why do we want to tell everyone about Survivor Amber?
Is there an upcoming meatball sub shortage I should know about?
So many questions...so few answers.

There is something about this Amber Alert thing that I am unclear about. Unfortunately, thousands of children go missing each year and if they were all registered nationally with this Amber Alert thing wouldn't the system become useless? How could anyone be expected to remember all those names and faces? Is there something about this system that ensures that only a small number of children's names and faces get published nationwide? And if so, what is the criteria?

The Amber Alert is a little different then the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and though I don't know much about the specifics, I know they do all they can to get pictures of missing children out there to the public.

Maybe someone knows of link with more info, but the Amber Alert is basically like a Weather warning. It is used as soon as possible after a child is abducted. The way it works here in North Texas ( where Amber Hagerman lived and died) is that there is a tone and then an alert. I goes out over all the local radio and TV stations. A description of the child, anything known about the abductor and a description of a vehicle ( if they have one). The idea is that the public becomes aware that there is a missing child, and then looks immediately.

The day Amber was snatched and dragged into a black pickup truck, if the public had been notified over the radio that a child had been kidnapped perhaps ( possibly) someone would have seen that truck. Fact is people must have seen the truck, they didn't know to look. The Alert makes people aware. Believe me, when I hear one, I start to look at all the cars and children around me.

BTW- the sick F*ck that kidnapped and murdered this beautiful young girl has never been found.

Sorry if I am getting a little emotional ( crying) but I feel very strongly about this, and the Amber case was very close to home for me.

Thank you Silvergirl for posting this info. It is so important.

Please help make this happen in all states and communities.
It has found children, it has saved lives.

I don't know the statistics, Bucky, but I was under the impression that the Amber Alert system dealt with stranger abductions only. Many of the thousands of kids reported missing are usually from non custodial parent abduction, where the child may not be in danger of being harmed.

If anyone knows more about this, feel free to chime in.
