I just received this e-mail from Roni:

...it's time to move on. Please let my friends know I loved them and wish them well and I didn't do it.

Thanks

Edited to change my response as Webby has now made it clear it is her. Sorry to hear that, and I really appreciate your work to clear this up for us, Webby.

Let's move on.

The one thing Roni can do is drop the lies and come clean to the SB community -- if she truly loves and cares for anyone that's what she'd do. This was NOT Ronnet's first ghost-nic used for negative purposes -- it was at least HER THIRD.

As I stated in another thread, the evidence is QUITE CLEAR that RONNET was TAIYO. The one thing she COULDN'T HIDE was her IP address trail. Not only do I have thousands of lines of server logs of Ronnet (and only Ronnet) sharing the same set of a dozen or so IP addresses with her various ghost-nics, but I also have the timestamps that show nearly every Taiyo login being both preceeded and followed by Ronnet logins from the same IP address within minutes. The evidence is clear, Roni and Taiyo were the same person, with Roni logging off as Roni and logging on as Taiyo to make the Taiyo posts and then logging back on as Ronnet when she was done.

I don't want ANYONE to have ANY DOUBT that there was any injustice done here, that's simply not the case.

-SB

Thanks for explaining Webby - I'm very confused and feel like I've been duped. I didn't realize that there had been trouble before (as usually I'm blissfully oblivious of problems)...I just feel like I'm really stupid for believing her, but have a hard time not believing her...does that make sense?

I'm just sad about this whole situation.

Up until last night, though, I saw nothing actually out of line from Taiyo. Controversial, yes. Directly abusive, no.

I did, however, see a lot of over-reaction to taiyo before that point.

Oh well.

see y'all in a bit. Sabbatical time for the rhino.

Agree with ya, JV. Maybe I wasn't paying close attention, but the only thing before last night that I knew of Taiyo was that she (and I always did think Taiyo was a "she") was on the conservative side of political posts. Perhaps that was the reason for the "over-reaction to taiyo before that point" ?

Anyways, I am stunned that Ronnet was Taiyo. I just hope she's going to be okay...

You can't fake IP addresses....let's just leave it at that...I think we have spent way to much time on something negative....which is exactly what Taiyo was trying to do...so lets move on to better things!!

"ghost-nic used for negative purposes -- it was at least HER THIRD."

So Webby admits that the Zero Tolerance Policy is shady at best?
Apparently Zero is up for interpretation.

I swear I made all those nasty posts last night. It's the truth.
Webby knows it wasn't her by looking at the IP addresses.

But I suppose PepeLePew will call me a liar like he did when I told people my mom had cancer.

Justice is pretty shady around here.

Posted by PepeLePew13 on 02-20-03 at 01:23 PM
You know I was far from the only one who called you that -- many others did, why single me out? I called you that because you hid behind a fake name to say that stuff about your mom instead of coming out in the open to talk about it.

I haven't done anything to be ashamed of my life that I have to lie about things or use a fake name. How about you?

It's Webby's board. Whatever he says **IS** justice around here. No ifs, ands or buts about it. He could ban anyone from this board for no better reason than he doesn't like their brand of underwear, or no reason at all.

"One more point"
Posted by AyaK on 02-20-03 at 03:14 PM
Exactly one post was made by Taiyo from a Monkeyboy-linked IP address, and it was made this morning.

There are about 20 IDs (!!), including Taiyo, linked to Ronnet's IP address that we have found so far, and we're still looking. One of them is an ID that I thought (back during Mole 2) belonged to Monkeyboy, although I'd never had any reason to look into it. This leads to the obvious question of why a Monkeyboy ID would be coming from the same IP address that Ronnet consistently uses. I can, of course, think of a few possible reasons, and I'm sure you all can too.

Sad, isn't it? I recall that herekittykitty rarely ever said anything at all -- usually only said something in relation to cats -- and come to think of it, her style of posting was similar to Roni's.

It's mindboggling the time and trouble an already-banned poster would take to merely hang around in a place where they're not wanted. It makes you wonder just what they're like IRL to need such attention.

OK, one point here.

I do not condone or agree with this whole brew-ha-ha, but...

to say that they are not wanted is a little harsh. It may actually be things like this that feed into the problem. Feeling not wanted and banned (no matter what the initial cause was) is probably why they try so hard to return.

No One is perfect, we all have faults. We should try to be a little more understanding. We are all upset at what has been going on, and we may be over-reacting in our retoric, even though the mods actions were justified, IMO.

Again, I'm not in disagreement with you, but there is no telling what is going on with these posters. Lets just remember to not judge to harshly until we have walked a mile in their shoes.

It can be a lonely world out there and you never know what the repercussions of statments made here could be. And don't worry if you completely disagree with me. I'm used to it. I just wish these ghosts, etc would understand that disagreement is part of life. Just deal with it and move on.

I hope I have not upset anyone by saying these things.

That's quite alright... thanks for sharing your viewpoint -- I'll just whack you Wheezy-style!

You do bring up some valid points and I know I can't speak for or imagine what it's like to be in most booted posters' shoes, but this particular person (Monkeyboy) has been unbelievably persistent and he knew full well what he was doing -- most of the stuff he did was before you joined SBlows, I believe. Monkeyboy is one person we can safely say isn't wanted around here.

First, I'm glad you replied, so now I can re-reply. I was not singling you out at all. You are such a nice person/skunk.

Second, This whole prior to me coming to Sblows makes a lot of sense, because I really don't remember more than one of these posters names (aside from Ronnet). I have been running searches today on some of these names to find old posts, and I agree that they are out of line. I just don't get why they do it. So what was this Moneypersons damage anyway?

And I should have been more to the point about my disapproval of their posts.

I just get worried (and yes my bleeding heart is showing, and is starting to scare even me, LOL) about some of these souls. I fear for their mental health and pray that they do not make rash decisions.

I actually stayed out of this in the beginning for fear of stepping on toes because I didn't see what the fuss was all about over Taiyo's posts...I obviously understand the "ban" with so many screennames (all apparently with different "identities" or "personalities") but I don't quite understand (and maybe I missed something - it happens a lot ) what was so bad/wrong about the Taiyo posts...

But I do feel like a 'dodo' as I stated aboive for apologizing to someone who apparently was trying to stir up trouble. Course, I don't know the reason behind all of the "madness"...so I could be way off...

Actually, until last night, there really wasn't anything terribly egregious about the Taiyo posts. But for about two hours last night, she went on a fairly personal and hurtful spree.

Well, for one thing, Taiyo told Pooh that nobody liked her (typed in a way that was uncalled for) and told me that I should be spending time with my family instead of spending time on SBlows. Both posts were yesterday on his/her post-a-thon of badmouthing people. I can tell for the most part when somebody's joking around or not, and these weren't a joking around post from Taiyo.

Edited to add that I agree with Sherps' post. Both my wife and I were quite taken back by Taiyo's comment on my "Picket Fences" post that it had me bugged for a while. And I don't get my feathers ruffled easily.

Anyhoo.... hopefully we all can move on from this. This has done a lot to destroy some trust in certain people around here. My wife, for example, is feeling betrayed by Monkeyboy and Ronnet because both supported her after her first foray into the bar a year-and-half ago.

I was here in OT late last night and saw several very hurtful comments that were made by Taiyo. It had me very upset, but at least Sherps stepped in and put a stop to it. I realize I'm new here, but that was the first time I ever read comments that were that mean spirited from a poster on these boards, especially since a couple of them seemed like personal attacks. Taiyo, Ronnet, Monkeyboy or whoever it was, was clearly trying to bait us.

You know I was suspicious for a couple of reasons from the beginning...I asked Roni on a few occasions about her dance background - where she dances, what she does, etc. - (as I'm a dancer myself as is my sister) and was ignored every time.
Also, the PussycatDoll/Roxy screennames sent up an alarm since they are also "dance" related and I just thought it odd for some reason. I just chalked it up to being a newbie and her not wanting to divulge too much personal info...now it all makes sense (added with the fact that you couldn't PM her...not that it's totally odd, just made me go hmmmmm when combined with everything else).

Now I know why I never got a response when I asked her all those questions!

Thanks for solving the mystery.

I have to say, after observing a group of people who pride themselves on reasonableness and general "niceness," I'm rather impressed at the level of vitriol that I've seen today.

Roni is still Roni. Just because she's been declared "safe to attack, persona non grata," doesn't really give you peeps a license to come up with every nasty thing you can think of.

It's not every day that I pull out Scripture, but the simple fact that I do not believe in this God does not dilute the message substantially. Our reading today is from the Book of Matthew:

”Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measurement ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote (speck) that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and them shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words shalt thou be condemned.” Matthew 12:36,37

“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach...Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.” Matthew 23:2-3,13

I tend to agree with you, JV. I think, however, that while the vitriol is directed at Roni, the anger is really within us all at ourselves for being so thoroughly duped by this person, whatever her problems/reasons are for doing it.

Just a suggestion. YMMV

While I have no desire to detract from the powerful message of Pastor Rhino, I'd like to mention that folks tend to attack when they are frightened. And they are frightened because what they thought they could rely on -- their own judgement -- turned out to be flawed. That can be pretty scary.

So let 'em work through it here and then move on. No harm done.

Of course why would anybody listen to me? I do not worship at the temple of "nice". In fact I usually find excessive niceness and goodness cause for suspicion. Folks with a little edge, like the Pastor, generally seem more trustworthy to me.

No harm done.

Well, I have to disagree with Tech. I understand that you all are upset, but I agree with JV. I'm shocked at the attacks on Munky and Roni that I have read today. I get it -- you guys don't like Monkeyboy, you're upset. But you all are unusually cruel. For example, is it really necessary to say over and over again that he isn't wanted? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure he already knows it. My mother always told me, "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all".

I would think that it would be more therapeutic to talk about one's own feelings instead of attacking the banned posters. And some of you have done that. I apologize if this sounds like I am preaching, I'm just disappointed at the cruelity that I have seen today.

Indeed, even I have left the Funky Munky out of my admonitions. I offer my most profound apologies.

"You're not wanted here" is a pretty harsh message, and thanks for just going right ahead and speaking for those who may *not agree* with your sanctimonious pronouncements.

Besides, how much *DO* you all trust your own judgement, if a simple change in the wind completely upsets your world view?

And JV... agreed on most of your sentiments. It bothered me a lot last night when Taiyo was personally attacking posters, but at the same time, I greatly hope that whatever set her off isn't anything major and that she's well.

Apparently HE'S NOT clear on the fact that he's not welcome around here because HE KEEPS COMING BACK. The guy has been banned over a DOZEN TIMES and he keeps coming back. Why would anyone other than a total psycho do that? HE'S NOT WANTED -- how much clearer can it be said? As far as I'm concerned the time for handling Monkey with the kid gloves has long since passed and I'm tired of people "helping" him slip back into this community or being aware of it and looking the other way.

As far as Roni, I'm just as disappointed as anyone, after all, this is someone who at one time was SB.com's main news reporter and someone that certainly had my trust

Thank You Webby.

It is all an issue of trust.

I too am sad, and hurt and dissapointed, but we need to do what is best for the community. Webby and the Mods have no personal beef, they are doing what is best to keep this community together. And what they do seems to work, because this board is not like other boards.

I have seen more shock and dismay, then meaness over this issue.

I don't think anyone is being cruel when they say that using a duplicate ID to hide behind mean words is wrong. Getting a duplicate ID and pretending to be someone else tears down the trust. Without trust OT has nothing, and the other boards suffer.

Thank You Webby, and all those you have wisely chosen to help Moderate these forums. I appreciate you all more than you know.

I'm going to reply to buggy's post since it looks like she is addressing some issues with my post.

First off, no where in my post did I say that the mods took inappropriate action. I'm sure they did what they thought was best.

I also have seen shock and dismay, but I was talking about the meaness. And that is all. I even said, "I would think that it would be more therapeutic to talk about one's own feelings instead of attacking the banned posters." Expressing shock and dismay would fall into the category of expressing one's feelings. I even acknowledged that some posters have done this.

I gave an example of what I was talking about. I DO think that was unusually cruel. So obviously Webby and I disagree on this point ... and perhaps others do to. I was expressing MY opinion. I DO believe that MB is aware of people's feelings. I bet his repeated returns have more to do with pulling a fast one than ignorance of the situation.

I pretty much post exactly what I want to say -- no hidden meanings. I wasn't saying that all the posts on this situation have been mean, but there have been many. It was those that I was refering to.

"Multiple nics folowup"
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 02-21-03 at 00:01 AM
I want to clarify something on multiple nics... my point with the ghost nics isn't to hunt down every set of roommates, classmates, family members, etc. that share the same computer. It's also not to hunt down every person who registered an ID two years ago, forgot the password or username, and then switched to another ID. These aren't the situations I'm concerned about, but thanks to everyone for being so forthcoming.

And my statement was also not even really intended for clear "parody" style ID's where the posters identity is pretty clear and no attempt at (for lack of a better phrase) fraud or deliberate misrepresentation being attempted. ID's like "Tinkerbride", "not sleeeve", and "not shakes" are not the problem.

ID's like HawkEye/ICB on the other hand, although "in the know" to a significant number of regulars, do fall into the fringes of the types of ID's I was talking about. I can't remember when it was that I became aware of the Hawk/ICB thing, and at the time I thought I'd asked someone on the mod team to followup with ICB (he's always been ICB to me) and ask him which ID he wanted to keep and which he wanted deactivated... after that I don't know what happened but frankly it was never a high priority on my brain and I forgot all about it until being reminded today. I've since asked ICB to let me know which ID he wants to keep and we'll be getting rid of the other one.

Thanks,
SB

"Some more IP details"
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 02-21-03 at 01:16 AM
I just want to address this idea of "faulty" IP addresses that seems to be persisting in the minds of some users. There are a number of reasons I'm not going to reveal the particulars of the details of the investigation, but I want to make it clear that there's nothing "faulty" about the conclusion, the evidence is quite clear with all possibilities examined and analyzed.

Even the ever popular "MK kidnapped her ID(s)" doesn't hold water -- all these possibilities were carefully investigated and considered, this had been an open, active investigation that was already underway before the events of last evening and was not treated trivially. With all due respect, do not speak of matters on which you are not qualified and do not spread additional gossip and rumor. And please do not presume to "know" what the adminstrative team knew and when they knew it, it always amazes me what people think they "know."

Thanks,

I have tears in my eyes. Roni, we have been here since the beginning and I know it's odd since we haven't ever met, but I felt like we were friends. When I came here tonight and noticed that I had to log in, I knew someone was banned but I never thought it could possibly be you.

I don't even know how to end this, so I just will.

This has all been very sad and shocking. Though the evidence leaves no room for reasonable doubt, I still find it difficult to believe that the Roni I knew around here was capable of making those Taiyo attack posts. Let us pray that whatever unhappiness she is experiencing in her life, she will find a way to defeat it and return to herself. I will always remember the happy, irreverent dancer, the diligent stringer/reporter, the gentle lady I sometimes had the priviledge of sharing time with in chat. Peace.
