Macro world: It is earth year 2030AD. The manned space probe Margie (named after the pilot’s dear mother) has landed on Ceres. A robotic reconnaissance probe that orbited the planet 15 years earlier found hints that Helium3 (He3) may be available on the surface. He3 is almost non-existent on earth but is essential for practical fusion based energy production. So it is valued at 10s of millions of dollars a pound in liquid form. More than enough to justify the expense of a venture to prospect it on Ceres. Margie is equipped to process and store a few tons of He3 and return it and her astronauts to earth.
Matt, our intrepid astronaut, is making his first EVA from Margie onto the surface of Ceres.
Micro world: Cerean year 760 million. Evolution has proceeded for all this time on Ceres (3.5 billion earth years) without interruption since shortly after the birth of the solar system and the formation of the dwarf planet. On this level, as microbes, life exists at a much faster pace that it does for larger life forms found in macro environments, such as on Earth. Life and death and the passing of generations occurs a dizzying speed in comparison.
Although Ceres has been beset by collisions with other astral bodies at an even greater frequency than has earth, the Cerean’s frantic micro life speed allowed them to adapt to disasters in time to abate the macro effects. From the initial moment that an asteroid or comet contacts the surface to the time the dust settles, Cereans have always had sufficient time to evolve a perfect defense. Thus they survive, thus they thrive. And they have become very wise, not to mention resilient. It is quite surprising what evolution over 760 million Cerean years will produce.
So, from the moment intrepid Matt’s big toe first touched the Cerean surface, to the moment his heel landed, once again the frantic pace of Cerean evolution kicked in and produced the perfectly devised defense. Up to that point their diminutive size prevented them from conceiving of the possibility of leaving their home world. But their scientists, with their advantage of a millennia of relative time to think about it, finally deduced that this development (i.e., invasion by Margie and Matt) had to have been a foreign intelligence visiting from somewhere non-Cerean. Another few millennia of relative time allowed them to develop a plan and construct the means for the aforementioned perfect defense. We all know that the perfect defense is an offense.
Macro world: Back to earth year 2030. After Matt returns from his sojourn on the surface with the disappointing news that there is no He3 readily available, that there is only the regular kind, Helium 2, and that the venture is a bust, Margie loads up and begins her long slow ion propelled trip back to earth.
With hitchhikers.

So, from the moment intrepid Matt’s big toe first touched the Cerean surface, to the moment of his heel landed, once again the frantic pace of Cerean evolution kicked in and produced the perfectly devised defenseLove the story, similar to War of the Worlds, but this time instead of the Micro organism spelling doom for invading Martians, this time it's the Earthlings whose demise is at hand because of micro organisms.
That being said however, I do realize that this story is probably a parody for a current political situation. Guppy I still would like to know what happens next!!!!

Not an intentional parody. Just a spur of the moment idea I had when I read that the NASA probe to Ceres was approaching the dwarf planet and taking pictures. Also, I had not thought about what might happen next. I kinda liked the suspenseful "Twilight Zone" ending where we get to imagine what could be the end of human civilization brought on by sentient microbes picked up during a relatively innocent exploration venture.
But I’m thinking about it now.

To me, it was a clever twist on the closing narration by Morgan Freeman in the movie War of the Worlds! I can't wait to read your next installment.

Glad you saw that. I missed it completely, but now that you mention it, it was pretty dang clever.

LAST EDITED ON 02-07-15 AT 06:35 PM (EST)Christ is there for the teeny weeny people too.
And you ain't seen nothing unless you seen microbe unisex sex!
Whoooeee!
When they become aroused by certain stimuli, it's like a switch is turned on. They begin an aching, throbbing pulsation. Then, as the anticipated moment is arriving, a red flush creeps onto their nuclear sac and suddenly, in a molten flash of hot plasma, they divide. All over the place.
At this point they will invoke their micro deity in various ways, much as we do with our macro gods. OMG.
And it's sticky city, I'll tell you whut!
(Gotta please the public).

Did I mention pulsating?Sorry, microbes ain't gots no teeth. Or fangs. So the vampires can only gum your neck, and the only damage they do is emotional.

There will of course be the token dumb jocks, the token dumb cops, the token gay guy models, the token lesbian prairie queens, the token tomboys, and the token beauty queens. And the token Probst. (And for Fooner, the token vampires on token sailing ships).

This is what happens in the micro world.. by the left coast.Mico Worldaliens live on a bigger planet. More genius.. More morons. GAH!
What is their bus service like? Do they have stinky turds laying on perfectly good train seats at 5 am when the rest of us are trying to get to our low-paying miserable jobs?
Do they smell as good?
Detail.. detail!

Might be the new house..
"RE: Good! "

That's a house to get tipsy in. Little known fact:
Every seat on every train, bus, and airplane, has micro alien turds ground into them by macro earthling butts. Very macro. Muy Grande.

Unfortunately, despite their (relative) eons of prep time before landing on Earth, the Cerean Commander Pandion Haliaetus called for a pass play to deliver the well prepared anti-Terran death-agent. Patriotic humans were well prepared for this faux-pax and intercepted the pathogen just in the nick of time, preserving Zefram Cochrane's opportunity to launch the Phoenix.

A lesser known fact is that the pathogen at the heart of the retaliation was an amoeba that used a tail to propel itself, and that the affair was known for a time as de-flagellate gate.

To say nothing of the fact that if these microbes ever got together, we would have inter-solar system marriages which could cause racial tension among microbes!
