"Toasting Ursula LeGuin. "

Ursula LeGuin is not dead. Fortunately she is just getting an award. Not a headline story, but it is heartwarming for me. I used to get Fantasy and Science Fiction every month, and immediately scan the Table of Contents for a new story from Ursula LeGuin. Along with Ellison, Card, Blish, and a number of others. But she was my favorite.

Azimov’s column was usually pretty good too.

And it's nice to be able to extol someone without them having to die.

Toasting Ursula LeGuin. Congratulations for winning an award in spite of your distain for awards.

I'm not a sci-fi reader in general, but I remember the film adaptation of her story "The Lathe Of Heaven", with Bruce Davison, Kevin Conway, and Margaret Avery. I've been dying to see it again. Unfortunately, it's been perpetually languishing in my Netflix queue with the designation "Very Long Wait"...

It's nice she got an award.
