LAST EDITED ON 08-14-14 AT 09:56 PM (EST)Who is Laurine Bacall?
I had Miss Bacall as a customer once many moons ago when I worked at the Sam Goody's record store at Rockefeller Center. She was not in a pleasant mood to begin with, which was compounded when I informed her that the particular classical recording she was looking for was not available on cassette tape, only on LP.
"Well, my friend got it on cassette in Europe," she huffed. "Why is your stock so bad here?"
So I tried to explain that recordings aren't necessarily released in the same formats in every country. She just sort of waved me away, and then stormed off toward the classical LP department through the connecting turnstile before I could stop her. You see, the turnstile turned the wrong way. Which she proceeded to find out when she slammed into it. I half expected her to try to get me fired.
But I never held that experience against her. She was just being her New York self. Love her as a team with Bogie, especially in "To Have And Have Not". RIP, Slim.
