I knew he'd recently gone back into rehab.

RIP Robin, may the joy you gave to so many return to you.

OOf. That's a big blow.
He will be missed among the living but will undoubtedly keep the heavens aroar with laughter.
R.I.P.

Tragic news. Very sad. Just heartbreaking. Last night, probably as he was committing suicide, we were watching one of his comedies, "RV" on TV.

A brilliant, outgoing and witty man who brought us many a cheerful laugh at times when we ourselves may have been depressed and then uplifted by his humor and wisdom.

May you rest in peace, Robin.

No more Mork. Sigh. One of the more brilliant natural comedians we’ve been privileged to be entertained by.

So, who's going to break the news to Orson?

Edit to add: Here are some tributes from his friends. He was liberal in his views, so might have been surprised to see these on a FOX news web site (I'm sure they appeared elsewhere too). As a warm hearted guy, though, he would have probably been gratified as well.

All very nice. Kimmel's comment could especially be taken to heart.

Dear Robin,

Thank you for every snicker, giggle and belly laugh you've ever given me.

An absolute shocker. To lose such a genius -- someone whose on-screen persona is so full of life and vitality to the demon of depression compounds the tragedy immeasurably.

May you find the peace that you so gallantly deserve. Be sure to set up a joke-a-thon with Jonathan Winters and George Carlin -- try to get Freddie Prinze to wet his pants.

Nanoo Nanoo

Someone posted this on my facebook feed.

My problem with this is, it says death=freedom. Or in his case, suicide=freedom. I don't think that's a great message...

From Norm Macdonald... The many, many stories I've been reading about Robin the past few days generally have a common theme - he's perhaps the most generous human being around in making the lesser lights and the average person feel like they're on the same level as he was.

"Parkinson's"

New statement from Robin's wife:

"Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly."

"It is our hope in the wake of Robin's tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid."
