Well, this saddens me. I always have enjoyed the irony of a Jewish actor from Brooklyn having given us our all-time best performances as film Mexican banditos. Bar none. IMO, even better than the guy in “The Treasure of Sierra Madre”, who was also pretty convincing.

Tuco was a delight and a masterful portrayal by Wallach. Supremely menacing at times, comedic (BLONDIE!!!) at others, self-interested to the max, yet still with feelings and a soft heart buried under his bandito exterior.

He had many other memorable roles, and was in another one of my favorite films, “The Two Jakes”.

RIP Eli, one of the best actors ever.
