I happen to believe the article's proposal of Democrats and Independents using the open primary format to push her through is the correct theory. It's not as if Illinois doesn't lack extreme right voters, but this feels as if that extra boost was needed. We've had discussions of open primaries creating sabotage opportunities on both sides and this time, the liberals and moderates took the ball and ran with it. In that sense, she's not supposed to be there -- as an Illinois candidate. There are states where she would have had a legitimate majority win via full-fledged landslide.

But for Illinois, and that particular region of it -- I think she got some help.

This one's gonna be fun.

Unless she wins. Then it's just going to be marriage.

This is simply the sort of thing that can happen when one party has such a strong grip on a place that many of them can switch ballots in order to vote for the most unelectable candidates from the other party. Republicans get a religious determinist in a Democratic region, Democrats get a larouchite in a Republican region, it's all just fun and games.
