'The world is watching' is not a threat for Putin.

If you want to take one thing away from the Olympics, let it be this: he's the Internet generation's dictator. He likes having an audience. Watch me all you like and feel all the more helpless because no one can do anything to stop me.

"Too early in this thread for an Obama slam?"

Saw this today:

Paid for by AgPAC, a 2008 registered 527 organization.
"Who, me? I was unaware. I found out about this when you did. Nobody's madder than me...." - President Barack Obama on, well, everything.

"We will eventually pay for it, but we can argue about that later.” – Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA.)

Whatever the number was, I hope you had the under on this.

When are the missiles coming back to Cuba?

Actual result: "BUT THE RAINBOW ONE KICKED ME." For starters. *sigh* Congratulations: that's the single worst Rainbow Dash I've ever seen...

But back to the topic. I would appreciate it if you would tell me, in detail, what you believe the United States is supposed to do in this situation.

In all honesty, I really have no idea what the best reaction from the U.S. would be. This is a tough row to hoe for any President.

Two things I do think, though: 1. Any public words about what actions we might take if Russia doesn't relent had better be followed by those actions when Russia doesn't relent. And 2. I have no faith that our President will do anything past weightless rhetoric followed by ineffectual half-###ed "action".

In other words, a favorable resolution will require strong resolve from us and our allies; and I do not believe Obama can produce that resolve. I would gladly be proven wrong on this assumption.

I find it rather ironic that I just read Tom Clancy's Command Authority a week ago, and it's almost like he predicted the exact same scenario, with the Russians threatening and then invading the Ukraine, with the Crimean peninsula falling first.

But this time, there's no Jack Ryan and Campus operators on the ground to save the day.

In some of my reading I was led to believe that a majority of the 2.3 million people in the Ukraine identify more with Russia.

Besides, if that little hacker bastaad wants to participate in a discussion, and not just nuke OT, why doesn't the coward show up and give his pint of view?

That was not a typo..

I've read that, too. Perhaps we can dig up Neville to negotiate the surrender of this area to Russia and it will all be over.

Do we really need to reincarnate Neville when we have Kerry?

AND btw: I still want my $32 a night dacha!

This is what really makes the situation difficult. If the majority of the population identifies with Russia, I'm not sure what if anything can be done.

I got nuthin'

»As Obama endures pressure from Congress to act forcefully in response to Russia's actions, he urged lawmakers to adopt an assistance package to the Ukrainian government as a first order of business once lawmakers reconvene after weather cancelled official business on Monday.«

What passes for money in the Ukraine? Kopecks? Bitcoins? Foonerbills? (these are worth a lot).

Wait! I know what Obama wants issued!
