At the risk of Lime helmeting it, I was wondering if anyone has a new computer with Windows 8 on it? We just got one and none of my programs work on it. That means everything from Microsoft office to my graphic programs. Is there anyway to get these updated for windos 8 that anyone knows of? Thanks in advance OT.

It is supposed to be fine, really, you aren't upgrading from Windows 95 are you?

But I did find this

Compatibility mode

If you have upgraded your computer to Windows 8, and an older Windows program that you still need is not functioning properly, e.g. Exact accounting software, you can resolve this problem as follows:

Go to the Windows 8 Desktop.
Click on Explorer in the bottom left.
Under Computer, click on the C: drive.
Click on Program Files and browse to the directory of the program that is causing problems. If you cannot find the program, click on the Program Files (x86) folder.
Search for the program name in the list (identified by the icon and the type Application).
Right-click on the program name and select Properties.
Click on the Compatibility tab in the <program name> Properties window.
You can now click on Run compatibility troubleshooter to let Windows 8 look for what the problem could be.
If you already know that the program is very old, but runs OK under Windows 95 for example, in the Compatibility tab, select the option Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select the Windows 95 option from the drop-down menu.
If necessary, also adjust the color mode and screen resolution under Settings. This is only necessary for very old programs.
Finally, click on OK.

I just bought a swanky new laptop for my mother that has a touch screen and is running Windows. It is certainly different for me to use, but mom doesn't use much (internet, Word, email) so hopefully it won't be hard to upgrade her to Windows 8.

I like the ability to go to dinasaur desktop mode or to use the new menu icons. I did struggle to find a way to copy files from a thumb drive to the hard drive, but eventually figured out how to see all the applications that are installed.

Just curious, are you running on a PC or tablet? I ask because when I bought this laptop (about 1 week ago) the guy told me that the Microsoft Surface tablet (that I had initially gone in for) would not allow software installs until the next version (due out soon for about $400 more).
