"What are your plans for Valentine's Day?"

Do you have plans for Valentine's Day?

Feb 14 will be the 20th anniversary of my first date with my DH. We're going to the same restaurant we did on that first date.

I can see why you celebrate.

We don't make a big deal of it. We don't make a big deal of any special days really - we even forgot our anniversary once!

Same here. We always forget our anniversary, probably because it is Sept. 14 and I am busy with the start of a new semester all the time.

Valentine's on a Monday just isn't right anyway!

Somehow, I don't think we will be celebrating valentines day here at the agman household

Poor Aggie.

You can come here and celebrate with your OT friends.

Let me see...

It is a Monday so I suspect I will be having a bad work day.

As I ate my valentines chocolate yesterday I suspect I will also be craving chocolate.

Lovely cheese Mooney

Just another Sleeperbloke

Not that I am expecting any but my postman tends not to bother delivering on a Monday, so any cards will be late.

Many congratulations

In Saudi Arabia, Monday is humpday (not the camel kind)...

So, this year in Saudi Arabia, Valentine's Day is humpday (not the bed-squeaking kind)

When did you end up back in Saudi Arabia?

... except for vacation visits.

I briefly flirted with the idea of returning to Canada when my contract working directly for the Saudi navy expired in March 2010. The Saudi company that was my sponsor decided that they did not want to lose my expertise and hired me to work directly for them as a consultant at the company headquarters here in Riyadh.

From what I can tell lately (judging by the nice new big house they've placed me in) they want me to stick around for a while. I am, of course, quite happy to continue working here rent-free, tax-free, car-payment free until I retire!

My only complaint is that the price of gasoline never goes down. It's been stuck at $8 a tank for the last 4 years!

My brother is working in Kuwait. He thought he would only work the one year contract he was offered but decided to stay longer. His company pays for housing and transportation on top of his salary (but I don't think his compensation is as good as yours).

He's not terribly fond of Kuwait but has made due with the situation because the money is good. He had depleted almost all of his savings trying to find another job in the States. His company was moving to New Orleans and he didn't want to move. So he interviewed with Lockheed and was assured a job. He quit the first job then the economy forced cutbacks on government contracts and Lockheed couldn't hire him. Outside of the Navy, there's not much need for airplane sheet metal specialists.

He was in the States for Thanksgiving and was whining about the price of gas, too. I think he pays about 40 cents a gallon.

Life is hard.

Other than that, do you like it there?

DW and I got engaged on Valentine's Day back in the Pleistocene Era. Since we have kids, and Valentine's Day is a school night this year, whatever we do will be low-key. Most likely I'll pick up some steaks and cook them on the grill for a romantic dinner at home.

I'm taking my mother to have surgery on her eyes. And then later that night I will be waiting on her hand and foot.

And I'm not even trying to be the favorite for a large inheritance. Hell, I'm just hoping she doesn't leave me any bills.

My wife does that to me every year.

No one ever accused me of being romantic.

I was going for a Modern Family joke. Oh well.

I'm not a big Valentine's Day person. I think it's cute for kids, but it's just a ridiculous money pit.

I'd better have a plan, or else the 'D' in DW might be translated to 'disappointed' instead of 'dear'!

Our first date was on Valentine's Day 1984 and we have celebrated it every year since. We usually go out for dinner, exchange cards and talk about old times during our previous Valentines. It won't be too romantic early in the evening as we'll have DS and DD along with us for dinner. Later on, who knows?

Valentine's Day is really special for me and Mr. Kitty. We were friends for almost two years when we finally got together as a couple on Valentine's Day.

It was kind of a Harry Met Sally moment where I suggested we might consider being more than just friends over our "platonic" Valentine's night dinner (I was then supposed to be going off to a dance), he said: "I don't want to ruin our friendship", so I said, "fine, I need to go" so we paid the bill and left. As we were walking along the sidewalk on the way to my car he stopped and said "you are right"...and swept me into his arms and kissed me right there on the sidewalk. Let me just say that I never made it to the dance and we have been together ever since!

The next Valentine's Day he asked me to move in with him and on our third Valentine's day he proposed. Yup..it's a pretty special day for us

One Valentine's Day, I bought myself a single layer heart shaped cake. I didn't realize the cake was stale until I took the first bite. I had to laugh, as it was like something that would happen in a bad sitcom.

We approach valentine's day as an opportunity to say extra I love yous, so we usually don't give gifts unless it's something small like candy. It's usually spent instead staying overnight in Madison, spending a night on the town. Many times we just go to Buffalo Wild Wings on State Street, play trivia, eat wings, and watch the college kids on dates (and gaggles of girls going to get ice cream).

This year we are apart, which hasn't happened since we moved in together over 12 years ago. He snuck a card in my suitcase, I mailed a card from the airport the day I left. Should arrive on Monday (*crosses fingers*).

No sitter available, so we will hang at home and watch the first part of Jennings vs. WATSON on Jeopardy. I am routing for the more humanoid of the two.

DH left on a business trip today so I will be home alone celebrating with my dog and my cat. He is often gone over Valentine's Day (same trade show every year at the same time). Sometimes we celebrate, sometimes we don't. Last year he gave me a bright red fleece hoodie (red=Valentine's, cute) with the name of his hotel on it! It was the Coronado in San Diego so I deemed it acceptable, lol.

Have him bring you back a fake Rolex. Nothing says Valentine's gift like jewelry.

He's back from Hong Kong. Now he's in Las Vegas - although I'm sure he can find a fake rolex there too!

I have decided I am going to buy some Cadbury mini-eggs and get a manicure tomorrow to celebrate!

That skyline looks almost mystical! The Hong Kong one, not the Las Vegas one. No comparison really.
