"Another one bites the dust"

A "general" for the Christian right -- and vocal advocate for gay-to-straight conversion-therapy -- has been accused of gallivanting around Europe with a gay hooker.

Baptist minister George Alan Rekers, a co-founder in 1983 with James Dobson of the right-wing Family Research Council, was spotted leaving Miami International Airport on April 13 with a 20-year-old he met on a gay escort site, the Miami New Times reports.

When, when are we going to catch one of these homophobes in a sex scandal with someone of the opposite sex?

I mean I hate to stereotype that all anti-gay activist types are self-hating closeted types, but gosh it seems like a heck of a lot of them are.

That whole "protest too much" thing???

Yup. They protest too much:

ETF: Can't get the link to work.
Here's the meat (so to speak) of the article:

The research results were published in the prestigious Journal of Abnormal Psychology, with the backing of the American Psychological Association.

In tests conducted by Prof. Henry E Adams of the University of Georgia, homophobic men who said they were exclusively heterosexual were shown gay sex videos. Four out of five became sexually aroused by the homoerotic imagery, as recorded by a penile circumference measuring device - a plethysmograph.

Prof. Adams says his research shows that most homophobes "demonstrate significant sexual arousal to homosexual erotic stimuli", suggesting that homophobia is a form of "latent homosexuality where persons are either unaware of or deny their homosexual urges".

I refuse to believe any story which has someone voluntarily being seen with George Rekers.

I imagine that he was being compensated for such an occasion, being an escort and all........

Leave the poor preacher alone. He's practically a saint.

"Like Jesus Christ, I deliberately spend time with sinners with the loving goal to try to help them," said Rekers, who has called the New Times article slanderous.

"If you talk with my travel assistant ... you will find I spent a great deal of time sharing scientific information on the desirability of abandoning homosexual intercourse, and I shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with him in great detail."

From the article Dan linked: Rekers’ name has since been removed from the Family Research Council's Web site, according to the blog joe.my.god.

Excuse me for going off-topic for a moment, but wouldn't this be an easy enough thing to check yourself, as a journalist? Couldn't you spend a couple minutes browsing the FRC's website to see if this is, in fact, true instead of relying on some random blog? Just sayin'.

In the greater scheme of things, it's theirs, not mine.
