I've been moderating on the Celebrity Apprentice forum (for NBC) this season and I'm battered and bruised. Those people are brutal.
So I'm here to shamelessly ask for some OT love - hugs, smooches, red wavies - whatever you want to throw my way. And if you want to hug, smooch or red wavy someone else in the process then I say, "Share the Love!"

For the most part the boards run by the network skeer me the couple of times I've ever taken a peek.
You poor thing.
I've had my share of nasty types moderating on a health problem related board, and they seem a lot less skeery than some of the network run boards.
Whichever variety of nuts you have been dealing with I hope it can be dealt with easily and they don't drive you too nuts. Some people can be particularly vicious and it often is no fun to deal with.

Nope, no pay. All volunteers all the time.
Sunday night there were almost 400 users on with about half of them signed-in members. All of them screaming about the Melissa's exit. They were split on whether or not she was justified. I probably merged about 50 new topics for the episode within the space of 4 hours - all while trying to actually watch the show. No other moderators were signed in for the evening. I was on my own.
The last couple of days we've had a couple of posters that have resorted to personal attacks on other posters that don't agree with their POV. NBC is a little more lenient on how posters are warned and suspended than here. So I've been getting PM's from one poster accusing me of bashing and being a Nazi censor. And now I'm getting multiple reports/alerts from hir of posts that he/she thinks are bashing hir favorite celebrity.
My head hurts.

So are you looking for a flame squad to set a backfire? I'm pretty sure NBC's 'shoot on sight' policy regarding my arrival is just a bluff. Anyway, everyone knows it takes them at least twenty minutes just to open the gun cabinet.

That sounds like fairly standard behavior.
Of course bad behavior is always the fault of everyone but the one spewing abuse. How dare anyone have an opinion other than what has been dictated to them by whoever yells the loudest.
Just remember that the only people more wrong than the other posters are the moderators who can do nothing right.

I feel for ya' Shar.
Modding is brutal.
My first modjob required a communal banning that turned real ugly real fast. It's amazing how resourceful some people can be when they are angry about being banned. Not every board is for everyone and some people just don't understand the limits of basic human decency when reacting. With no "real" connection to a bb it's easy for some to act abnormally cruel and exhibit downright unlawful behavior in private messages and email and such. It's awful when acting in the best interest of the board and having to spend your days locking, redirecting, slapping wrists and deleting posts.
That, and it's somewhat thankless.
I did have three supportive members as co-mods (and a small but growing group of posters) but it was too much for me to chew off at the moment.

Stick with it if you can live on limited praise and limited pleasurable postings. Or come to realize that there are others in the same boat.
Or you could hire Estee as a freelance assassin to take care of your more difficult stooges.

No kidding... this board's history is riddled with creative comeback attempts by a certain simian (not to be confused with the poster samiam) and Webby have had his hands full dealing with situations like that - I'd venture that kind of situation took up more of Webby's time than almost anything else (looking up and cross-checking IPs, monitoring posts, etc.).
Gives you (and all of us, really) a new appreciation for the hard work done by our mods here, no? All of our mods except for one have been here for ages, some from the very very early days of this board -- so obviously we haven't succeeded in driving them off.

My favorites are the ones that insist on being blatantly obvious about it.
Especially since they usually are the ones to pull the "banned for no reason at all" card.
Let's see,
1. Your new screen name is a take off on the screen name that was previously banned.
2. You email address used to sign on is either a take off on the other ones you used, has a name in it you are known to use, or has a slur about the moderators in it.
3. IP addresses all make sense even if you seem to claim you are only using proxies.
4. You went to the other board you posted the link for and told everyone how clever you were.
5. You have less then 10 posts but know every piece of dirty laundry about the exact same people you attacked the last time. Especially when the info is from posts that got deleted a long time ago.
6. You use the same unusual words or phrases that you used the last 573 times you were banned.
