"Two for Twosday - Nicknames"

Tell us two nicknames you have had in your lifetime.

Me:

1. Dingbat or Dingy. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and laugh. My second grade teacher actually called me this the entire year of school. As a mother, I would be appalled if a teacher called my child such a name. My teacher used it somewhat affectionately, and I liked her, but it was just a different time back then.

2. Garfield. I wanted a nickname so badly that I created one. And it sucked. And it didn't last long. I think it was in 7th grade. Only one dork used it.

Also, if you have ideas for twofors, send them my way. I think of topics at the oddest times, then can't remember them or if I've used them. The other day I pm'd a list to myself, but I forgot to title the pm, and now I can't open it.

1. Breezy

2. Chicago, only one person called me this. But it was the only thing he ever called me. I know if I ran into him today he would still call me that.

Isn't that funny when one person gives you a nickname, and no one else will call you that?

A former neighbor used to call me "Casper". He said I was white, friendly, and I seemed to disappear before he knew it. He never called me anything else.

1. Billy Yoffer - pretty much all of my closest friends from HS call me some variant of this (Yoffer, Yoff, Bill, MoonYoff). And some crazy internet cereal killers even call me byoffer!

2. Hoser - Maybe it is a Canadian thing, or maybe it is a Bob and Doug McKenzie thing. Then again, maybe it is something else

2. Miss Perfect, stemming from the fact that I'm a bit of a grammar freak.

I have a friend named Maureen. She worked in an office with another Maureen. So, they originally called her "Mo," but changed it to "Reenie." IMO, she is a Reenie, not a Mo or Maureen.

1. berle...my sister and i found somewhere that another nickname for christopher is 'toph', which we thought was hilarious, so we started calling my boyfriend at the time toph instead of chris. from that, she came up with berle.

2. kimmah...that's buggy's fault. too many drunken nights watching south park, i guess.

I knew a Burly in college. She even insisted on being called Burly by the professors. She was a tiny little thing so the nickname seemed kinda strange, until she explained it was the 2nd half of her first name. At least I never insisted that the professors call me Grit...

This barely fits as a nick name, but I had a friend named Christopher, who at first we tried to call Chris, but when his mom heard us calling him that would always correct us with "It's not Chris, it's Chris-Toph'-er". For some weird reason she just couldn't abide the shortened version of his name.

So from early childhood he was always known amoung us (and it spread to everyone) as Chris-Toph'-er.

Poor kid, let this be is a lesson to you Moms.

Do these nicknames mean you're short?

When I met MC two summers ago, she towered over my then-nine-year-old son. If they met today, the height-comparison outcome might be different.

Every conceivable name with fish in it.

Fish eyes, fish face, fishbreath, and on and on. During HS, it seemed to be a contest to see who could come up with different fish names.

I like Kingfish the best.

1/ Oi! You! - Apparently

2/ Long(ish) story.

Are we sitting comfortably?

When I was starting to make friends outside of school there was a television programme on called "Blackadder"

Sidetrack - If you haven't seen any of the Blackadders it really is worth a try, the second series (Set in the time of Good Queen Bess) is most peoples fave, but mine is Blackadder goes Forth (Set in the trenches in the first world war) the end of this moved me more than any other TV program has.

Anyway this was before those series, it was the very first Blackadder, and Brian Blessed at his rambunctious best, this was set in the 15th century in the time of Richard IV, now at that time men wore certain, erm, enhancing items.

As my surname is similar, I managed to end up with the nickname "Codpiece", I'm 40 now, and one of my fiends still calls me that.

1. Al - shortened from Alva, bestowed upon me by the caddies at the country club where I caddied during my junior and senior high school days.

2. Trash - an unfortunate variant of my surname, and phonetically close to my surname if it is mispronounced. Dutch double-A's are like 'ah', not a short-a as in 'cat'.

As a 'tween' I was called "Dimples" for the two deep dimples I sported or "Sunshine" because I was smiling even on a crappy Monday morning.

My mom called me "Moose" not because I was clumsy, but rather cause I played catcher on my fast pitch softball team and would just bowl people over at the plate. She also called me "Crab" cause I hated when she woke me up. Once awake, however, I was "Sunshine!"

My sister and I decided once when we were young that I was "Hillary" and she was "Windy." Why? We were in the back seat coming back from a trip to the lake (Havasu in Arizona) when we passed the "Mercedes Benz Farm" (you know, all the huge fans in the desert?!) and it hit us. I had boobs so I was "HILLary" and she did NOT have boobs, so she was "WINDy" after the fact that the flat desert had to have fans blowing. We were young, what can I say?!

My ex best friend and I called each other "Bill" from 10th grade (around '87) until just recently. I have no idea where it came from, but it stuck and it was all ours!

I've also been called "Snefanie", "Snefalupagus", "Einahpets", "Stevie", and countless others. I've always had loads of nicknames.

1. Sluggo.

My dad calls me this because I am a procrastinatin' slug. Also, we are both endlessly amused by Nancy, a profoundly dumb comic which features pig-nosed children, one of whom is Sluggo.

2. J Slice.

Bestowed upon me a number of boyfriends ago - I was 16 at the time. Damien has taken to calling me this.

My dad also called me crabby-appleton fairly often, though I have no idea why.

1. My first nickname is a shortened version of my name: Becky. But various guy friends have all come up with their own versions. My BIL calls me Beckster. Another friend calls me Beck-a-rah-cha-cho. An old boss called be Beck-in-berry. I could go on!

2. There were three Beckys on my freshman hall so my roommate tried to nickname me Scoop because I worked on the school newspaper. That didn't stick though. The other Beckys were Becky T. and Becky VK, I got to be just regular Becky.

1. Woozle: Everyone in my family had an animal name based on their name in some way. Since there are very few cute "w" animals, I got Woozle, as in 'woozles and heffalumps' from Winnie the Pooh.

2. Multi-purpose wench: The kitchen staff at the Pizza Hut where I worked through high school and university liked to call waitstaff "serving wench". Hostesses were "table wench". But many of us were also cooks and thus "kitchen wench". Additionally, three of us might be scheduled for dish pit, making us multi-purpose wenches. I used it as my handle when DH (then-DBF) and I hung out with a bunch of other dorks with CB's.

Neither one of my nicks is complimentary, but I'll post them anyway.

1. My father used to call me Butterball when I was a kid, even though I was not that chubby. Okay, maybe a little, but I have pictures and I was not noticeably fat in those. *looks for school pics to scan someday*

2. Runt - an XBF favorite, even though I asked him to stop. Well, that's one of the many reasons he is now an ex.

Then there are those nicks that won't pass the SBOT filter. *sigh*

My sister was actually jealous of the Butterball nickname. Dad used to call her Punky.
