Edited to add: PAT used to provide service in Beaver County into the city and into Robinson. BCTA now is expected to do it. Unfortunately, unless you can get to their headquarters on your own, you can't get that bus. Public transportation is a complete disgrace in such a relatively large urban area. I mean, cut me an f-ing break, do we really need a tunnel under the Allegheny for the kiddie car ride they call a subway?

Well...I would take him over Kwame right now. At least your boy wonder just crashes parties to get his picture with Tiger Woods and drives around with Homeland Security and now ripping off the city and costing it over $10 million in lawsuit payouts to date and another $500K for his defense in those suits. Plus there are another 4 or 5 coming.

Probably not. Although sex-crazed Kwame and his sex-crazed bimbo were lying, as usual, on the witness stand, it's my understanding that the case was settled between the parties. Generally, there isn't any type of action for perjury brought when a case is settled, because there wasn't any reliance by the fact-finders (the jury or the judge) on the perjured testimony.

I can't find the link in the Free Press but they say that he can still be prosecuted by the County Prosecutor and she is having a press conference at 10 am today to kick off her investigation. Plus there maybe an obstruction of justice charge because it someone called SkyTel and told them not to mail the txt msg to the judge when the case was going on.

There is a lot of thought the the County Prosecutor will go through the motion but say there is not enough there for perjury because all you have is the txt msg and you need two sources but there are the whistle blower cops that saw things and now we have the hotels, spas, etc. so if I'm sure someone saw something for a second source. Plus now all the news outlets want all the txt msg and travel bills for the Mayor and his Chief of Staff. So more news at 11 for a long time to come.

That hasn't been the law in hundreds of years. All you need is something like this incredibly damning direct evidence in a case that turns on "knowing falsehood", as perjury does. Still, it's not like there was a miscarriage of justice -- the case was settled.

The two sources is what the talking legal heads have been saying all over the news. I thought it was off. The case is settled but there are 2 more related to it and then there is the obstruction charge. The txt msg directly contradict their testimony in that case so if the questions were "clear", no what is the meaning of is, then just that could lead to charges and a conviction.

So you are saying if I lie on the stand and then the case is settled I can't get prosecuted for perjury? That don't seem right.

I didn't say you couldn't get prosecuted. Lying under oath is still illegal. But you almost never see a prosecution in a case that was settled before being submitted to a fact-finding verdict by either a judge or jury.

For example, in Massachusetts the speaker of the state House testified in one case that he had had no involvement in drafting a law. In a second case, he testified that he had some involvement but hadn't looked at the law carefully. The first case was settled. The second case went to a verdict, where the judges ruled against the speaker's side. Then it came out that the law in question had actually been drafted by the speaker's office, and two of his aides testified that the speaker had personally drafted the law. His lie in the first case was total and obvious. His lie in the second case was more subtle. Guess in which case he was prosecuted for perjury?

Right, the second. Why? Because it went to a verdict, so you could prove that when the case was fully submitted, his statements were false, and so he had tried to mislead the factfinders. The first case was never fully submitted.

Ahhh...but the jury did speak and found in favor of the two fired cops. The jury reached the cost and the Mayor stood out in front of city hall saying he was going to appeal it. Then they reached a settlement agreement instead of appealing it.

So this case was fully submitted.

So now you can see why the Mayor and his Chief of staff can be tried for perjury.....many are calling for them both to step down but Kwame is too big for that and Beatty seems to have just as big of balls as he does from her own run ins with the law. She accused two cops of setting her up on a raining day speed trap and another for losing another ticket on purpose after it was turned over to the watch commander.

The Mayor got home tonight so the next few days should be interesting now that he is back in town.

The Mayor, who has always stressed that we should invest in the City of Detroit, bought a house in FL about 6 months ago for $430,000 but the loan was from Quicken Loans who just announced at the same time that they were moving their operations to the City of Detroit. The loan has around a 5% variable rate for 30 years. In the past 3 days it's been put back up on the market. for only 3% more than he bought it.

Amid MLK event, mayor with woman at resort

One of the local TV stations has learned that at an MLK event just last week he had another woman with him on the trip. Christen Beatty has been confirmed in another place so it was not her as was the mayor's wife and kids.

He and Beatty are still in hiding and the Deputy Mayor is running the city. More and more people are coming out trying to spin this every which way to keep him and her in their positions but there are more and more calling for him to resign as more and more info on his travels are getting out. Plus they are deposing the lawyer for the whistle blowers lawsuit to see if there was a confidentiality agreement with that lawsuit...since that would be against the law too since it was a government case and against the freedom of information act.
