Posting this bit of HTML Vince3 put together so that everyone who's been wondering what the odd bits of discussion and sigpics were about can finally decide not to check it out in one whole piece.New cast. New location. One very big new rule. No real resemblance to anything that's ever aired. And somehow managed to avoid cancelation all the way through.

Reunion: Does the Game Ever Really End?
I'm considering taking the season and putting it up on Deviant Art to give it some kind of scroll-proof permanent home -- at least after one very long final edit to find the typos that hid until after the Update option had expired. (Also because if DA does anything, it's haul in artists by the truckload, and there's the tiniest chance of seeing someone try to draw bits of this stuff.) Zoidberg's already declared his intent to do All-Stars II this summer and someone new was asking about the possibility of posting a season here, so we might even actually need a fanfic board if we see enough people doing this. Interesting (and scary) thought. I know LadyT did some Big Brother work before all this started, so it's not as if this is a first-time thing. And it would also be a home for -- actually, if I bring that up, the Blue Peeps may start throwing bans left and right, or just to whichever side I'm standing on, so let's have people make that leap on their own.
Maybe there's one halfway-decent story hiding in the heart of every reality series. There almost has to be. And we all know the producers aren't going to tell it...
Just wanted to see them all together one time: pretty soon, I'll be back to being sigpicless. Thanks once again to Sharnina and Tribephyl for the arts.
I'd like to see it all in one place. I wasn't able to keep up (I did start) I tried copying out the posts to put in one document for my own reading as that was easier for me for long fiction, but the thing I pasted it into sometimes did funny thing to the text so it got hard to deal with.*Sigh* Estee's about to be naked again. Sigpicage looked good on you!
One place, but not one piece: I'd probably wind up putting it up in episode-chapters again. I don't know what the file size limit on DA is for a text post, and I also have to learn what kind of coding they allow. If they don't take HTML as a straight dump or a paste, then I'll have to go back italicizing and boldfacing everything where needed. Ow...Combining all the pieces into a single file also has one other problem: I'm not sure I want to see how big it really is.
Which program were you pasting into?
It was either Word Pad or Microsoft Works.I was having some pastes come in with giant fonts.
Some of the formating things you might be able to do with replace all in something like I do with Word at work, assuming you can find what the codes are. I do that with some files after I do calculations in Excel I have to do a quick reformat to make it back into a the format the program that uses the numbers wants to see and it is almost just plain Excel Tabtext, but not quite (it strips some = signs and I have to put them back in). I can search and replace tabs and paragraphs with ^t and ^p.
One chapter per file like you see with novel length fanfics on Fiction Alley would be really cool if you can do it.
I'm not good with reading that much text on the screen either so I copied the whole thing into Word files to print it. The trick I found when pasting it into Word files (and it should be the same for Works) is to only take the text in the dark gray area of the message. Start under the Last Edited and stop at the last sentence. If I picked up any part of the message other than that there were tables, weird formatting, weird background, etc. I don't know if that helps or not.Although I've copied the last episode and reunion I haven't read it yet. I want to do it in one sitting but school research and work have been taking up too much time the last month or so. Plus I need to get more paper for my printer.
A tribephyl original
...how much paper have you used?
Episode 13 + Reunion runs 174 pages. That is with .5" margins all around, 9 pt type, and 6 pts between paragraphs. Granted I put in a page break between the two so maybe it would only be 173.Needless to say I will be printing double sided so it will use only half as much paper.
If you REALLY want to know I can check the page count on the other episodes. Since I don't thimk I'm the only one who has been printing to read it your epic opus has probably destroyed a small forest. But don't blame yourself. We decided that reading it was important enough to sacrifice a little more to global warming.
On the upside I do make sure to put it in recycling when I'm finished.

I don't know what's more depressing: that I've taken out a tree, could have saved several pages with more conventional paragraph and tab codes if they weren't such a pain to use on every single line, or that you're tossing them when you're done. So much for custom bookbinding.*sigh* Sounds like the grand total count is in the Way Too High neighborhood. I am now the pointless fiction equivalent of the Left Behind authors, only without the fees, merchandising, and potential for fifty sequels and spinoffs. If anyone needs me, I'll be in a very dark place for the rest of the week. Feh.
Still looking for similar silly efforts. I've only located a couple of non-slashes, but they're All-Star and third person.
Yikes. I wonder how much paper the entire Society Islands season takes up. (I know the answer with my season: 357 pages, 12-point Times New Roman. I wrote the whole thing in probably 70-80 hours.) I've also looked for Survivor fan fiction online, but I can hardly find any; it's always fan fiction for other things that don't relate to Survivor, or it's incomplete weirdness that has people in other fictional settings competing in Survivor. Picture a bunch of Mario Bros. characters on Survivor. On the other hand...I take it that "slash" is the fanfiction equivalent of pornographic fiction. Fun.
Although I wonder if depicting an open-mouth kiss between two female nudists counts as "slash"...
LAST EDITED ON 02-13-07 AT 11:42 AM (EST)Huh. We both use Times New Roman, but I work with 14-point. I don't want to add up the time involved. It's over eighty hours, let's just leave it at that...
Yes, 'slash' means two (or more) characters having sex. There's actually a reference to this in one S:SI episode -- we usually use the / for alliances, and someone notes all the different / marks out there for Alex and wonders if we're leading up to a sex scene. {Don't tell Desmond.}
'Incomplete weirdness'? Mario Bros. characters competing on Survivor isn't completely weird? Who would have to be playing the game to qualify for 'complete': RTVW denizens? (h, wait, someone tried that already...
Wallflower posted a link in Bashers for Survivor's funny moments that has a link to series fiction at the bottom: http://members.aol.com/AllStarHawaii/ (ETA: I haven't investigated those episodes to any real extent and don't know their content as to PG-13 standards: approach at your own risk.) Please understand if I don't post the links to the ExI and Guatemala slashes.
Although I wonder if depicting an open-mouth kiss between two female nudists counts as "slash"...
Not when it stops at kissing.
That slash page also had similiar stories for -- well -- I'm sorry, but Dr. Cox and J.D. are not a couple..

>someone tried that already...I meant that the story itself was incomplete; it was only through the fifth episode. Tribes were split based on whether they were considered "good" (Mario, Yoshi, Peach, etc.) or "evil" (Bowser, Kamek, Wart, etc.) It actually wasn't too bad, just not very detailed. Plus the host was a non-entity named Marc as opposed to Jeff Probst or Lakitu or someone.

Hmm, good point...I did keep any sex scenes completely implied, just like Terry in Exile Island...no point in going beyond PG-13 if I don't have to.

>-- I'm sorry, but Dr.

Scrubs. The best comedy on NBC that's in its sixth season and still hasn't had anyone hear of it.There's a cast member on the red carpet at Carnegie Hall. Shhh...
I got into one of my very rare cleaning moods. Almost anything not tied down goes out. I do still have some. For example, episode 10 ran 55 pages. I think that was about average although I remember at least a couple running into the 80's.I didn't notice any issues with paragraphs or tabs. Once I figured out the best way to copy they came out very clean and easy to read and reformat, at least with MSWord.
And remember it was my choice to take down that tree. I could have read on line I just don't happen to like doing so.

I compose in WordPad and edit in Open Office. (I can't stand anything along the lines of 'It looks like you're trying to write yourself into a corner. Can I help?') I haven't had any problems pasting into Open Office yet, but I haven't really tried it from the screen either. Actually...*tests*
...it works. The italics came across with no trouble, and font size was normal.
There's no tabs or paragraph break codes anywhere in it because it's done in WordPad, which means that if they need to be added, I'm going to be at this for a while. Whee.
LAST EDITED ON 02-11-07 AT 10:56 PM (EST)I just Googled to check out possible alternate host sites. (I haven't been to Fiction Alley yet. Still leaning towards DA.) One of the first things to come up when looking for Survivor 'fanfic'? Slash. Exile Island and Guatemala slash.
That's all I know. After I saw the titles and the category, I really didn't see any need for further investigation.
You know, people are allowed to exist in alternate settings without having sex. Besides, don't you think they'd remember about the cameras?
Fiction Alley I think only does Harry Potter Fan fic.Diagon Alley (diagonally) is the inspiration for the name.
there does seem to be an unhealthy amount of interest in the sex lives of fictional characters, and I've only really read the fanfic for Harry Potter.
We forgot one!
This just appeared on the Tarot speculation thread:The reply just didn't feel like the proper place for pity.
He does seem to be picking an odd mix of threads to post on.
It's a tribe creation!
I'd like to think he's just randomly clicking and casting his little money lure into whatever thread he hits. I'd hate to believe he looked at both of those threads and said 'Wow! I've never heard of these shows! I bet there's lots of people watching these, and I haven't conned any of them yet!'I'd really hate to believe that, but I'm the one who put a post on the Live Feeds thread where the hamsters started attacking each other and watched people fall for it...
LAST EDITED ON 02-14-07 AT 02:59 PM (EST)I did do a bit of a search and the other posts are back about 1/15,
I think one was a reply to you on a Beauty and the Geek thread.
Maybe you have a fan? Edit: Both the replies I found were replies to you??
Maybe he's a stalker?
