"Whine Thread"
Posted by HistoryDetective on 01-12-06 at 08:30 PM
Please feel free to use this thread to whine about anything you see fit. I'll get us started.Whine, whine, whine. WTF is going on with blogger tonight? Why is it not connecting half the time? Why does publishing take so long the rest of the time? Why is it being so difficult in general. Whine, whine, whine.
I do feel better now. Thanks.
Whine away!

... post this question as a thread, but i'll ask it here instead:what *is* the correct serving size for ice cream?
because the 1/2 cup suggested on my butter pecan ice cream is obviously incorrect.
6 scoops later, here i am.
i expect to join the 'biggest loser' thread(s) shortly after the baby comes out. i have been eating whatever i want, and i know i'm going to pay for it. i have 8 weeks left, and have already gained 20 lbs.

i have a headache. i, too, am bloated.
my allergies are killing me. the post nasal drop is borderline nauseating and i need some softer tissues.
my son is on a school snowboarding trip. i have to pick him up at 9:30 tonight. this has prevented me from getting in my jammies and going to bed early.
my daughter has *made* me watch every TiVoed episode of Saddle Club and Trading Spaces: Boys V. Girls. I think I want to get rid of the TiVo now.
mr. sorgee has been playing the xbox 360 since he got home and the sounds of the cars racing around are about to send me into a mental killing fit - they are making my headache worse.

How did this Four Kings carp get on the air? What's a Rubic's Cube, why should I care that someone on the WB can solve it in twelve seconds, and how many thousands of time are they going to run that same promo? Where's the Survivor summary sign-up thread? Is there a reason my land line is having problems every time it rains? And why didn't anyone tell me Buggy's chocolate was stale?

The recently installed cafeteria führer -- manager -- no, führer is right – at the school where I teach has just instituted some new rules. Teachers who don't purchase anything, will now be required to pay for the use of plastic ware and -- get this kiddies -- hot water.I bring my own mug, my own tea bag (since the cafeteria doesn't stock green tea ), but now I'll have to pony up 5¢ for the hot water. Plus another nickel for the spoon to eat my yogurt. I’m a notorious early-bird, so I’ve usually finished eating by the time they’re ready to sell anyway.
It seems as if the Reichmanager has decided to make a profit making concern out of the teachers’ cafeteria, even though we don’t get anything different than the swill fare dolled out to the students (95% of whom receive free lunches).
And they don’t serve wine.

A. As Ginger and Bebo have been privy to on the Non-Reality board, I am none too happy about finally watching a show, loving it, then seeing it was essentially cancelled. Arrested Development. Yeah. I mean, if I knew it had no shot at coming back, I may be a little less upset about it. However, damn, the hope brings me back to a period in time prior to the 2004 WS. I will cheer for the show, but I get this sickening feeling they'll fall. Let's hope for 2004 again. At least I'll be purchasing many more TV shows on DVD blindly after the dual-success of Lost and AD for me. Speaking of which, I know I won't find a running AD at this point, but are some other comedies that are a)good and b) running? Even some funny, cancelled shows on DVD would be great.B. The school pressure is just mounting. Midterms coming up, grades floating everywhere. Senioritis is setting in for sure. At least the semester's almost over.
C. The person my mother dislikes on Dancing with the Stars doesn't look likely to go home this week, so I have to change the channel/FF when we watch it.
Not a whole lot else, I'm doing pretty well.

Midterms, you all should have mid-terms before Christmas Break. My school made the change last year nd they went up dramatically. Were in our second week of the second semester. I know you can't change it but IMHO that would probably be better.

LAST EDITED ON 01-12-06 AT 09:46 PM (EST)Two of my more serious exes both got engaged in the last week. I can't believe they're getting married before I do. The guy on myspace that I have an enormous crush on is absolutely gorgeous...as in, so gorgeous that I can't quit thinking about him and he's not online. I need to clean my bathroom and I don't feel like it. The article in Cosmo titled "How to Snag any Man you Want" is falsely advertising itself. It should be titled "How to Get Some Guys to Approach You". It doesn't go any further than smile, glance at him across the room, come with a couple of friends. *rolls eyes* I swear I've heard that a million times. Also...I'm out of q-tips.

I'm dead tired and have a headache, but I can't for the life of me fall asleep. My friend volunteered to be a bridesmaid today. Thank you, and I appreciated it, but I already have four bridesmaids, which is one more than I wanted, but I was obligated to have DF's sister as a bridesmaid. It's nothing personal, it's just that everyone in our wedding party is someone that we've known and been close to for years and years. That stipulation made it easy to keep the bridal party small. Now she is apparently offended because I said that we wanted to keep the BP small. I was already planning to ask her to read at the ceremony, but now she's making me feel guilty...even though adding her would also mean that I'd have to add my other friend that I'm equally close with whom I've known for the same amount of time...and even though she's known since before I got engaged that we were limiting the bridal party to the people currently in it. Ugh. I hate drama.
I'm making a table runner tomorrow for the table that our cake will go on. The table is 75"x46" and 34" high. The ends that hang over will be have our monogram and wedding date. I can't figure out how wide it needs to be, nor how long the overhang should be. I spent the better part of an hour in Joann Fabrics trying to figure this out. I finally got fed up and bought 4 yards of fabric and left, but I still don't know how big to make it tomorrow.
My head really hurts.
I really want to be able to sleep.

The enemy employee will be working in my office starting February 3rd. When asked why she is voluntarily transferring offices, she was quoted as saying "I am going to the other office to take the job that is rightfully mine." 3.5 years ago, we interviewed for the same supervisory job. I got it. She didn't. She has been gunning for me ever since.
I am worried. I don't say it out loud much but I am really, really worried about what carp this woman is going to pull and whether I will still be working here come this time next year.

"RE: Whine Thread"

Thanks, Love. It's hard to keep an optimistic attitude about this. This woman has fabricated incidents out of thin air so I have no idea what angle she's going to attack from and she will attack. It's just a matter of time. The ONLY upside to all of this is in preparing for her coming here and starting trouble, I pretty much stopped spending all money and paid off all my debts. April 1, the only debt I have will be my car and 1/2 the house payment. No credit cards, no loans, nothing so if I *had* to leave here, I could take a job making 1/2 of what I make now and still live very comfortably.
I did, however, just treat myself to a Coach bag, matching wallet and keychain.
*smooches* Bravie and here, have a donut.

Lucky you for getting rid of the debt. It will be the year 3127 before I get out of debt. And that would be only if Michelle would take over doing my bills. I have a habit of forgetting to pay my bills. LOL. Not because I don't have the money but because I pile my bills over in that corner *points over there* and then forget about them.

All this on a lady with a bad heart!!!Oh, and I need to plan my next vacation around the hip surgery.
Worse of all I'm stuck at work with nothing to do. I could be productive if I didn't have to be here!!!

If it weren't in such bad taste, I would say that I was Stephen Ambrose and rail on and on in salty language about how it didn't matter that most of my books were essentially the same one with different covers. And how when we started a new world, there would be no penalty or guilt associated with plagiarism. But since I'm polite, I won't.

FWIW, I was on the market 3 years (1 ABD, 2 w/ degree in hand). I had two AHA interviews each year but only one campus visit from those six, which resulted in my current TT position. However, I had several phone interviews and two on-campus interviews in mid-fall and late spring that were not tied to the AHA. In other words, the AHA is not the first or last phase of the job cycle. My experience (on both sides of the interview table) suggests that there are a very few jobs that are filled even before the AHA, the bulk of jobs that are filled at or as a result of the AHA, then a late wave of jobs filled in the late spring or early summer. The downside to the last wave is that most of them are not TT, and most are not at elite or even semi-elite schools. Best of luck with the results of your interviews.

I hate the free shuttles at school, and they have ruined my day. The big guy who sat next to me, intentionally pushing his leg up against mine, ruined my day. My intended lunch partner cancelling ruined my day.But it's all good, because it's Friday, and I don't have to see a bus for three whole days! And it's a friggen killer good hair day.
I've never been fond of public frotteurism transportation. Or firemen fantasies.

Ick! I would never intentionally push my leg against yours (because I know how often you go to the gym and I am convinced you could kick my ass).I'm going to try not to take the last three words personally.

Heh, this guy kinda smelled a little, too, and of course he was gone pretty quickly (as is typical for a frotteur). Ten bucks says the girl who took his seat thinks that I was the odorous perpetrator. Firemen. Bleh. Post some half-naked college professors and then we can talk.

journal*snort* You don't want to see any of my college professors half-naked. Ewww. I did post a certain grad student half-naked in the week before the new year. You just didn't look hard enough.

Some of you have already seen my biggest whine source of the day. Sigh. Maybe someday, someway, hooked on phonics will work for more people. Our DVR died, so we lost a whole bunch of stuff that I couldn't watch while it was squirrely. On the plus side, we have a new one just in time for the premiere of 24, so I don't have to worry about being otherwise occupied one of those nights now.

In 20 minutes, I will see the last of our student assistant, Annalyn. Today is her last day with us. She has been with us for the past 3 years. For a girl who only works 20 hours a week, she effortlessly worked like a full-time worker. I really hope her replacement will have the same strong work ethic she displayed throughout her time here. I will truly miss her. WAAAH!Now I will have to pick up the slack until we hire her replacement.
