Maybe this has been discussed before but seeing as we have a number of newbies, myself included, how about telling us how you came by your screen name. Of course, if this has been covered ad nauseum I'm sure I will be enlightened.

Before I begin, let me remove my pants.

I used to work for a television producer and her better half. When you work for a married couple, things can get interesting.

They were always trying to one up each other on the birthday gifts, until one year she decided to give him a 400 gallon saltwater fishtank. Of course she knew nothing about the maintenance of such a monster.

They had it installed in the wall between my desk and his office, doors to the pumps and whatnot opened on my side. I then saw it coming. I was to take care of this beast with absolutely no knowldege or interest whatsoever.

After much death (poor, poor anemones) and hours and hours of research I finally got a good thing going.

We were able to start stocking the tank and I got my first pick of fishies. I chose a Maroon clown fish and named him Cleo. Cleo and I had a great time - I built him his own apartment out of living coral. It took up one end of the tank and all the other less loved fish had to stay on the other end.

I hand fed him every day. He would literally jump out of the tank and gobble food from my fingers. I could stroke his sides and if I held my hand in the water he would swim by and nudge me just like a cat! To have him purr would have completed the picture.

After a few years he eventually died and went to that great tank in the sky. But I'll never forget him and honour him here with my screen name.

As someone who has had the honor of meeting you in real life, your name fits you perfectly. You do glow.

I like MaroonClown's story too. I had a fish tank in my room as a little girl and had a favorite fish. I named him/her Charlie. Charlie went to that great Fish Tank in the sky, via the funeral procession we like to call "The Great Flush".

Brave and Crazy is an album and song by Melissa Etheridge. Brvnkrz is short for Brave and Crazy. It is not officially short for Brave Knockers but long story short, that is what it has been mistaken for here. Hence my nickname Knockers. Some can't bring themselves to call me that so I have also been nicknamed Bravie, Brave, Braven, Brazen and in honor of one that I am not allowed to mention, Brazen Gravy. Oh yeah, and Misto used to call me Brazen.

Actual conversation as thunderstorm was passing through DC:

Bravie: Augie, is that a hurricane?
Augie: No Bravie, it's what we here on the East Coast call a "thunderstorm".
Bravie: Are we going to die?
Augie: No Bravie. At least not from the thunderstorm.

Aaargh, screen name threads. I agonized so much over what my screen name should be before I registered. In fact, it was one of the reasons I didn't de-lurk sooner, I couldn't come up with a witty, funny screen name. (Says a lot for my creativity, doesn't it?) One day there was a thread that tickled my funny bone and I had to participate and decided, heck with it, I would just use the (boring) screen name I use on other sites.

There is no story behind the name. It's a combination of my name and DH.

It's not worth buying an entire pig, just to get a little sausage.

weltek came here long ago--Survivor 2 if I remember right. I heard when OT started and she would often make me make lists or guess about "this or that". I let her have her fun, but then 18 months or so ago we started commuting to work together and with that added 10 hours a week in the car together it was too much. I had lurked for awhile just to see what she was talking about, but didn't want to disturb her fun.
Then I got bored at work one day and dove in.
her name is her maiden name with the first initial of her first name.
To clue her in that it was me, I made it easy, my nickname--loosely based on my last name and C--the first letter in my name. So now you know about weltek and myself.

Stumbles over to patio doors and opens them, letting the brisk wind fly through the house, vertical blinds flapping up and slapping against the walls and ceilings.

Tapping claws against the desk, thinking, thinking, thinking. What will it be? DrunkFan? PoutineQueen?

Cats going nuts, running in the windy room. Sips drink, slurs at cats to calm the f**k down. Cats are all wild in the cool air, fur standing on end, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and...frisky.

And so it was, and so it shall always be.

ETA: RIP Cleo, the *headbutting* fish.

Awesome Frisky. And I love the way you present as a cat. I tried that with the fish thing for awhile but it made my head hurt.

I've used SilverStar as a name for awhile now. Or tried to. It's usually already taken when I try and sign up for things, so I was happy that it was available here.

Anyway, nothing really interesting. My favorite color is silver and I like stars. Both celestial and celebrity.

My nickname here, AgStah, comes from Monsty. Ag is the chemical symbol for silver and stah is Bostonese for star. I love my nickname and the Monstah.

The story behind my name is pretty boring. I'm a grad student, and I'm doing research on algae. I spend all day staring through a microscope looking at the stuff that fits inside a tiny drop of water, hence WaterDrop.

I have 2 tank-raised True Percula clownfish at my parents' house (no room for the tank at my apt) that swim from one end of the tank to the other to follow my dad around, and they eat out of his hand, too.

I don't think that's boring at all. Fascinating really. One of my old buds from Uni is working in biology studying turtle population in NS. He also developed a way to freeze live fish, ship them and rejuvenate them. Unfortunately the Uni kept all his research.

And my cousin studies earbones in fish.

Mine was easy -- it's actually a screen name I picked for an ICQ program a few years ago and it stuck. Based on my favorite city in the world, my first initial, and the first part of my last name (hence the two t's). The "cat" part is just a fun coincidence. Since I have been a member here folks have taken to calling me "Catt" and I kinda like it. The trend is also spreading to my IRL friends and co-workers.

It is this reason that I'm on the fence about going back to my maiden name after my divorce. I rather like "Catt" and trust me, my maiden name doesn't have the same clever ring to it.

Or maybe I'll just change it to Christensen...

Seana (see-anna) is a character in the book series Wheel of Time, which I've read so many times people laugh at me.

Anyway, the character is not central to the plot, and dies within a few chapters of one book. But she has a cool job: Dreamwalker. In case anyone cares, I've been working on getting a degree of control in my dreams for years now. I just got really sick of waking up terrified in the night.

Bob the chemist was a cartoon I drew at one of my jobs. I did analysis and people would drop off samples without filling out the forms completely. I made up some comics detailing how much time was wasted when they didn't spend two minutes filling out crucial information. Generally something blew up in the comics.

There was quite a series of comics with Bob filled adventures. They pretty much all started with "Bob is a chemist. She works in a lab" and would then involve dinosaurs.
When I posted here, I decided to add a French bit to the name just to annoy Coco, hence BobdeChemist.

Actually, they were hosted on my webpage at my old university, but they replaced the server in my lab and all the comics went poof. I think I still have the image files somewheres, but they no longer exist on the web.

However, the plotline for all of them was quite similiar
1) Bob is introduced. Bob is happy.
2) Someone does bad stuff to Bob. Bob is sad.
3) Stuff get blown up or a llama spits on someone
4) Bob is happy.

Bob bounces when bob is happy.

Their song is death, and makes destruction please.
Unblest the man, whom music wins to stay
Nigh the cursed shore and listen to the lay.
No more that wretch shall view the joys of life
His blooming offspring, or his beauteous wife!
In verdant meads they sport; and wide around
Lie human bones that whiten all the ground:
The ground polluted floats with human gore,
And human carnage taints the dreadful shore
Fly swift the dangerous coast: let every ear
Be stopp’d against the song! ’tis death to hear!
Firm to the mast with chains thyself be bound,
Nor trust thy virtue to the enchanting sound.
If, mad with transport, freedom thou demand,
Be every fetter strain’d, and added band to band."
...
"‘In flowery meads the sportive Sirens play,
Touch the soft lyre, and tune the vocal lay;
Me, me alone, with fetters firmly bound,
The gods allow to hear the dangerous sound.
Hear and obey; if freedom I demand,
Be every fetter strain’d, be added band to band.’"

I thought I would use a nic that wasnt anything like me. So I came into CBS as Bunny. The problem was, eveyone kept thinking I was Beach Bunny. I got so used to saying "no, I'm just bunny" that the name just sort of stuck.

After I met Ra, he started pestering me to change it, because he said I was not "Just" anything. So, I chose a name that went with my disposition. Thus Sunny Bunny was born. The reason I have always liked the bunny nic, was because it gives off a certain...shall we say...less then intelligent feeling, and I loved it when people who assumed from the nic I was a bit of a nitwit found out that I wasnt.

As for Ra's nic..."Well, I put my first two initials together, and was probably drunk thinking about Egyptian Gods and Astrophysics, and managed to get average light travel time from Sun to Earth wrong (8.54 mins, on average, depending on position in orbit), so that's how. And then, why bother changing? at least the sex and rodeo jokes have quieted down.

That's a good story. "Green side up" is the punch line to a funny old joke, and it's sometimes used as a tip of the day, like "don't take any wooden nickels" or whatever.

A finish carpenter was hired as a subcontractor for a condominium project. When he showed up on the job, the contractor took him from unit to unit. In each unit, the contractor would point out where the cabinets should go and talk about what was needed. Then he would walk over to the window, open it and shout "Green side up!" Then close the window and off they would go to the next unit. Sure enough, before moving on, the contractor would open the window, shout "Green side up!" And then colse the window and they'd move on. Finally the subby got so curious he had to ask. "Dude, why is it that every apartment we visit, you open the window, shout "Green side up!" then close the window and move on? "Oh," said the contractor. "The owner wanted to save money on landscaping so we hired a bunch of college students to lay sod."

Pretty mundane, here. Wolf was my maiden name and, when I was in private school it was common to refer to students by their last name, so for awhile it became sort of my nickname. Wolves are also one of my very favorite animals.

I'd been lurking for awhile and the night I decided to comment on one of the shows I found I had to register. The night before I'd spent almost an hr. trying wo re-register on MSN, with every name I tried already taken (including Tamagon, and Natria Shanana ). I assumed that Wolf would already be taken here, so combined it with the name of the Arctic fox I work with at the zoo.

That's Mystic in my first siggie.

Boring.

Last name, first initial.

People have trouble pronouncing my last name (or spelling it if I give it to someone in person or over the phone). Most commom mispronunciations: sit, sittay, seeta, site. Only 10% get it correct the first try. Most common mis-spellings: Citte, City, Fitte, Citay, Sittee - I don't think anyone ever spells it correctly without having seen it first.

No, no, WAIT! Mine has got to be the most obvious!!

My name came from creating passwords to sign on at work...

Brennan, Jessica & Mallory are my kidlin's.

And rather than naming them all something starting with the same letter, like the 16 J children (it was "J" wasn't it?) their names all have 7 letters and double consonants! Clever, eh?

We didn't intend it to begin with, but after two that happened to have the pattern, we DID look for a third name with the same pattern!

No tricks from Moonbaby, just treats!!

I just wanted something I had a chance of spelling under any circumstances.

I was being ironic.
See, I'm incredibly cool/amazing and everyone at my school loved me...I was even homecoming queen.

So I chose geek because I, like, totally love making fun of those freakazoids who like science and wear glasses and stuff.

Ok, here's the truth.

My craft name is Erin Skye. (A craft name is the name you chose for yourself when you become a witch.) I'm of irish and scottish ancestry so Erin is for Ireland and Skye is for the Isle of Skye.

So anyhow way back when I started out on the internet about 6 years ago my very first nickname in MSN chat (now gone) was erin_skye. Someone started calling me skye and it kind of caught on. Over time, I eventually became just skye and I've used it in one form or another ever since. As a matter of fact it's become my IRL nickname as well.

When I was about a year old, my grandfather said that I reminded him of a little Sherman tank, because when I wanted to get somewhere I would go over, or through anything in my way. So, he called me Shermie, and it stuck. Goofy nic for a girl, huh??

I'm not a cowboy, nor do I play one on TV. Some very happy times of my life have been lived in the sagebrush country of Eastern Oregon. I always feel like I've come "home" when I go back to visit.

Hey Maroon Clown, fish name here too. Back in the dating days I bought DH a fish tank and one of his first fish was a ropefish. We came home from work one day and the poor thing had somehow jumped out of the tank and was lying on the living room rug. It was very disturbing for both of us and we kinda gave up on the tank after that. Luckily our 3 kids have fared much better than that. (So far)

Okay, you've drawn me out of seclusion. Again. *sigh*

I was watching (oh, the shame, the shame) Paradise Hotel when they were explaining another "rule change". My jaw dropped and I remember saying, "How do they determine the rules here? Do they just roll the dice?"

That became RollDdice when I first registered here. The rest is just pixel abuse.
