so what are you doing for dear old mom? Or, what is being done for you (if you know yet) or what do you suspect is being done?

I have ordered a huge assortment of cut spring flowers sent to my mother and the cards are in the mail. I? was given a gift by my DDs last night. AT one on Saturday I am scheduled to have a manicure and a pedicure! I will be all ready for sandal season! My babies are so sweet.

DH keeps telling the girls he won't be doing anything, cause, after all, I am not his mom. But in our family's time honoured tradition (and because I know him so well) on Sunday he will start the bbq and insist everyone examine the steaks he has specially chosen for supper. (And he will have spent at least a half hour in the butcher's deciding on those steaks.)

Meat - a gift suitable for most occasions?

I went to this place where you can make your own jewelry, and made my mom a bracelet (it's in the orange/blue/white Clemson theme).

Nutzboy offered me breakfast in bed.
I said, "No, we don't bring food into the bedrooms."
He said, "...but we can make an exception on Mother's Day."
I said, "Not if it's me who makes the rules."

Food in my bed? Ewww! Can you say... crumbs?

He said, "Then what do you want?
I said, "I would like to go out for a brunch buffet."
So he said, "That is what I'll do!"

For my mom, she hates when we make a big fuss, so I'll just stop by and spend time with her and give her the pretty card I got her.

Meat? is appropriate, unless it's 4 pounds of Argentinian BBQ!

The sweetest breakfast memory? When DD was 2 and for breakfast - at 5:30 in the morning- she brought in a half cup of cold coffee and a half full ashtray (both left from the night before) because Mommy always had those in the morning. I can see her standing there after carrying them up the stairs without spilling, so proud of herself.

Adn the fact that Mommy needed those in the morning and kept seeing her little face was a help when I was quiting smoking.

I'll be hoping not to get a card from my MIL where she hand writes in "to-be" next to the word "Mother".

I'm not pregnant, nor do we know if we ever want to be. We've told her that, yet she won't let the subject go. If she wants a baby so bad, she can go adopt one.

This is a special Mother's Day this year.

Its my first...well not officially since the baby won't be here for another two weeks but I told hubby it was close enough for me to be showered with presents

And second of all...I'm going to the airport to pick up my mum on Sunday who I haven't seen since January of last year

she will be getting a new Giants jacket, some Giants tickets and it's a tradition that I buy her a 6 month supply of movie tickets too.

Yep...my mother has her wish list, no matter how strange the list is, and if you deviate she gets mad at you. It took my sisters a long time to catch on to this because she would be so happy with me (yellow roses or rose bushes) and mad with them after they spent hours shopping for her. Finally my older sister asked how did I do it and since then the other two sisters have catch on too.

I sent my mother the blue one.

We are also going up to Sackets Harbor for the weekend and will take her and my grandmother out for brunch. My DH sent his mom an atrocious purple card with a fuzzy bear that says something about Mommy on the front.

SIDE NOTE: At my bridal shower, when we were going around introducing ourselves. My MIL waited until her turn, looked around the room, then directly at me and announced I'm. Donny's. Mommy. and said nothing else. You could hear a pin drop.

I was mortified and validated at the same time. I felt like getting up and saying to everyone else "Do you now see what I am talking about??!!"

...if my husband remembers. My birthday is tomorrow, and then, of course, Mother's Day, and he usually forgets.

Every. Single. Year.

My mom and my dad and my sister have all, at different times, called him to remind him over the years. This year, though, they were all in Memphis, so no one has called.

I'll get the guilty, "Oh, it's today?!?" and then he will run out and I will get a cake or something from Baskin-Robbins.

The kids, though, have been giving me Lego "flowers" all week and telling me happy mother's day, so I am happy.

I forget my mom's birthday
Every. Single. Year.
So does everyone else, including her husband. She says she doesn't mind. She then spends the next week buying gardening stuff guilt free.
Her birthday is a couple weeks before mother's day, so I usually call her on mother's day. Last year I sent her a huge (3 foor by 2 foot) godaweful card covered with flowers and hearts because I know she hates that sort of stuff.
This year I sent her a late birthday card from her dog insisting that all her children were terrible and only the dog should be remembered in the will.

> Next year, I will send her a card from the chickens.

I just spent $200 on flowers for the moms.

If I did what you did, my mother would kill me. It would totally make her cry. If I just call her even, I am on The List.

I just end up feeling mean if I show how upset the thoughtlessness makes me.

My mom is great, but not in a mommy sort of way (When I got straight A's for the first time on my report card: "Hmmm, that's symmetrical dear")
A couple years ago, all the children forgot my stepdad's birthday completely. So he said we were all out of the will. Then all 3 of us wrote cards insisting that each of us was the best daughter and should be the only one in the will. I insisted that I choose him, while the others HAD to have him and then I mentioned mt other sisters were drug addicts with 14 illegitamit (and very well hidden) children. My other sister drew cartoons showing memorable events in her life and how they brought meaning into his life and followed up with a carton showing how the property would upgraded when she looked after them in their old age (It would be changed into a spa with "chicken therapy" and real mud baths).
The final sister found some incredibly religious card (whole family very unreligious) and said that God loved her best and knew that their father daughter bond was the strongest. We mailed them all a month after his birthday.
I think it got us all back into the will, because two of us were out again the following year, when only only one daughter (not me) remembered mom's birthday.

Maybe my mom should learn some guilt trips from your mom and she would get herself some better stuff on her birthday etc...

"My mom's reply"
Posted by Bobdechemist on 05-10-05 at 01:45 PM
My sister also sent mom a late birthday card (from the cat and made out of the cat's own fur). I just wanted to post my mom's reply (btw, Winnie is the dog)

Dear Thistle: Thank you for remembering my birthday. You probably don't know that we have a family tradition of changing our wills after each birthday.
Unfortunately, and I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you are a cat and I hope to outlive you, so remembering you in my will is a hollow reward for your thoughtfulness. But there is a way around this. I can transfer the title of the property over to you before I die. You will have to share the estate with Winnie because she also remembered my birthday but if you play it right you can probably get her to write you into her will as I expect she will die before you do. So Thistle, don't play in traffic and you will be rewarded for your thoughtfulness. One thing though, I need to be assured that that ingrate of a daughter will not benefit from your well deserved good fortune.

Love

(name removed to protect the guilty)

Yesterday AM tho...was my mother's day. Rotten 1's class did a Mother's Day tea complete with songs and poems and hand made artwork. My favorite was the painted flowerpot with a yellow flower in it.

I understand. It's the 35th year for my mom's passing. I was 1 mo. past 14, and she was 1 mo. past 55. Mother's Day is still a little difficult (I knew I shouldn't read this post). More so since dad died 9 yrs. ago. No cemetery to go to, really, in either case. My DH used to give me cards from the pets (our DC were all miscarried). I have a concert on Sunday though, so I'll be able to give a Mother's Day gift to all sorts of people. And, a Birthday gift to our choir director's FIL - it's his 90th B'day. That's something to celebrate!

DH bought my card a couple of days ago. I know this because male kitten told me that there was something special for me in the glove compartment of the car and I'm not supposed to look.

I usually get homemade cards from the kittens and some flowers.

My mother will get scratch tickets and a card and maybe a gift certificate for the bingo. She's a gambler.

MIL is getting the Tribute to Pope John Paul II on DVD. Needless to say, she is not a gambler.

The world is my litterbox.

I am giving my mom a new Hawaiian ukulele madeinChina. She and my aunt both play, and they'll sing "On Moonlight Bay" and insert the phrase "without a shirt, without a shirt" between each line. In fact, at my youngest brother's HS graduation party, my mom upstaged him and his band when the lead guitarist broke a string!

It was quite an effort getting that thing home. Shipping it would have cost more than the dumb thing itself, and there likely would have been nowhere to carry it onboard the flight from Honolulu to Lost Wages. So I returned it to Hilo Hattie's on Maui . . . and bought another at Hilo Hattie's in Vegas. Still, it slid all over the floor of the flight home.

So, she better LIKE it! (Just kidding.)

Sent mom a huge HUGE bouquet of orange and pink and other warm-toned spring flowers, because that's what she likes, and because her birthday is somewhere around the 11th and I never remember it otherwise.

I told Sneetch not to worry about it because we've been so frantic with college looming, etc. I think the fact that she still hugs me goodnight is present enough at this point. We'll probably hang out in our pajamas and watch "Mommy Dearest" at some point as it's our Mother's Day tradition.

DD has made me something. Everyone knows, but won't tell. DD (6) and DS (2) tell me about the surprise they're not going to tell me about often. I like the 2-year-old version best:

"A-pize you! No tell! Ha ha..."

My mother can go...um...OK, I didn't get anything for Mom. Um. Honestly, I realise that she's entitled to a bit of recognition for the work she did before she went insane but I'm a small, petty and bitter person.

DH will likely get his mom a nice card. He's a good boy like that.

Let me see...

this is the second year in a row that Mr. Wheeze has been out of town on Mother's Day. But I'm not bitter. No, I'm not. Because I got...a clock radio from the kids. And? A $50 VCR.(how do I know it was $50? We mothers know everything. Especially when you put the receipt in the checkbook.) So now I can tape Survivor...for him. Right? No! That's not fair. I might need to tape it for me, someday. After all, in the past 9 seasons I've actually missed the show twice.

Odd, yet...how can I be upset at all? I can't. I was remembered. And that does mean a lot.

of course, when I found out he'd be away for mother's day again, I told him that the best present he could give me would be to take the kids with him. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. But the kids still have the school-made stuff to give to me on Sunday...which should be quite adorable, as it always is.

I've bought mymother nothing. I'll email her an ecard tonight and call her tomorrow. I'm a terrible daughter, but they sadly expect no better.

I'll get gifts made at school and/or daycares from the boys. Mr. Kim never, ever takes them shopping for Mothers Day. He did, however, take them all to an air show today, so I've been alone since about 9 and will be until I leave for the prom at 4:30. That is gift enough for me, really.

We'll be spending the day with MIL, SIL and AIL tomorrow, along with various and sundry children and friends at a picnic in the park. I'll get breakfast in bed because in Jay's mind that is THE gift that you give your mother on Mother's Day. He's been planning it for weeks. He's been trying to convince me that I like cereal.

I took the kids and spent the weekend at my folks house to help them with their garage sale (they are moving to my city this summer with my grandma! I can't wait to have them so close!).

Woke up this morning and gave my Mom her gift (vintage video-tape of the very first Young and the Restless episode -- bought it online). Mom was so thrilled that she cried...and then laughed (I get my soap opera addiction honestly!).

Then, I packed up the kids and came home and...........the lawn was mowed, the house was clean, all the junk was put out to the curb for our town's 'Spring Clean up Day'. And? Hubby has the kids over at the park for the afternoon so I can goof off. (So far, I've called my best friend, my grandma, and my ex-mil -best friend's mom- to wish them all a Happy Mom Day...and now I am playing on OT!)

And? He bought steaks at the meat market to grill for us later. And? HE is going to give the kids baths tonight AND make their lunches for tomorrow.

I have the best hubby and am having a fabulous day!

MM And I also got a very sweet email - thank you, my superhunk...you know who you are!
