"Darryl Strawberry's HoF admittance speech."

A Fair Use exert: 'Contrary to a lot of opinions, I loved playing baseball. I think people got the wrong idea about me because of all the games I asked not to play. But I mean, generally those were day games; and my 'flu-like symptoms' were not the result of a lack of passion for the game, but rather a result of my equally strong passion for exploring the cultural hotspots of whatever city we happened to be in. And if being left unable to see straight after a night of exploring our country's landmarks, national monuments and strip clubs is wrong ... well, then, I don't want to be right.'

Oh, and Buggy? It's not about sports. It's about food that only exists in microwavable TV dinners. For example, I just had a chocolate corn brownie. I don't think this exists outside the plastic cover.

Darryl Strawberry was my idol growing up. I wore wristbands like him, tried to have my batting stance like his (even though I was right-handed), I even had the high-top cleats like him. He really blew it (fvcker)...

Darryl is the reason no Mets fan will ever trust a draft pick on sight again.

'He hit .785 in college with ninety home runs and 238 RBIs! And he set the all-time record for triples with sixty-four!'

'Really? Was there a keg of beer waiting at third base?'

He sure was fun to watch though. As Darryl went, so went my interest in baseball.

Imagine how good he would have been if he'd had access to steroids.

I thought that the Mets were the reason Mets fans don't trust their draft picks. Yecch.

Think we're getting anyone good this year?

No. See above.

Here's how bitter I am about Darrylberry the Dim: I want him to get Hall of Fame votes. To be specific, I want the writers to enter collusion and work to give him exactly 74% of the vote. The maximum possible he can have without getting in. Knocking on the door, but no one's home. Free ticket to sit at the back during the actual admittance speeches. And then all of the writers involved will never vote for him again.

Let the punishment fit the crime.

I miss Hojo.

But more importantly, I miss Mookie.

(sigh) I miss him too. Why can't he just keep standing at first base for a decade or three? After all, to quote Bill Veeck, the only thing a first base coach has to do is -- let's see: there must be something he has to do...

Darryl was the inspiration for one of my all-time favorite sports quotes. He inspired Lasorda to say once:

"Darryl Strawberry isn't a dog. A dog plays hard and runs after balls."

The perfect outfield: Darryl Strawberry, Gary Sheffield, Jose Conseco. Time required to set the world record in repeating the word 'Yours!': ten days.

(Great quote, that.)
