I lvoe them. I just cut them in half, remove the seed, pour in vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. I could eat them every day while they are in season.

I do the same thing, but put 'em in a bowl and add tomato.

BLAT - my personal all-time favorite sammich. But I leave out the "L".Maybe some good ideas for what to do with the guac besides mound it on top of tortilla chips.

I *heart* avocados, I just had some last week. I like to slice fresh avocado on top of garlic hummus on a pita for lunch, yum!

mmmmmmm
They are one of the most perfect foods in the world.
I love to add them to salads. Or make guacamole - havta add fresh lime juice though. Or just put some salt on them and eat them plain.
mmmmmmm

LAST EDITED ON 08-04-04 AT 01:56 PM (EST)I? have had my fair share of avocado.
Examples:
At a Chilean BK: "Yes, I'd like the #1, hold the avocado."
Avocado mashed (sorta like guacamole) and spread on bread.
Chilean Tuna salad: Bed of lettuce, some tomatoes around, half of an avocado (no seed), tuna in the hole, butter on top of the tuna. You can add the lemon juice/oil/vineger/salt/pepper if you wish. (Those are the salad dressing options.)
Half of an avocado (no seed) with oil/vinegar/lemon juice/salt/pepper as a side dish.
My view? Take 'em or leave 'em. They're just kinda bleh.

Agree with Beav.
If I must eat them, I will, but usually not my first choice.

LAST EDITED ON 08-04-04 AT 02:10 PM (EST)Hey MTW!
Avocado? YES! My dad slices them in half, fills the pit hole with olive oil, and sprinkles it with garlic powder.
The way I usually eat avocado is sliced up in salads or a Mexican layer dip I make. The recipe:
1 can of Old El Paso refried beans with green chiles
2 avocados mashed with a little mayo and lemon juice
8 oz carton of sour cream
1 small can chopped black olives
8 oz bar of cheddar cheese freshly grated
fresh diced tomatoes
Mmmmmmmm!

avocados kick butt, but only haas-type. Those green weird-looking ones suck.

I admit I am an avocado idiot. In fact, I made my first guac only two weeks ago. I used the pear shaped, dark green warty variety. Are those haas? Or is there a whole new world awaiting me?

Those are HAAS. The easiest way to tell: if they taste good, buttery, and smooth; they are HAAS. If they taste watery and like cardboard, they are NOT.

Good to know. If that's the case, I'm thinking the other ones are going to go the way of the dodo bird due to natural selection.

I like 'em!All these ways sound good. I have just had them in guacomole and on a sammich.
The selection of avocados here are not so good. I think California has an advantage in the world of avocados.
One more of J Slice's Awesome Creations!
I would classify myself as a novice in the world of avocados!

They are also great when they are cut up and put in tortilla soup. If you have a Houston's restaurant near you , it is well worth trying.

Also, you can take the guac, roll it inside a corn torilla, add cheese on top, and cook to make an enchilada. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! I am SOOO pro-avocado!!

As a kid, I thought avocados were revolting. Now, I love them. Mostly in salads or sushi. I'm not real crazy about guacamole, though, but that's because most of the stuff that passes for guacamole is crap. I have a friend whose grandparents owned an avocado farm in Mexico, and he makes homemade guacamole that is amazing.

we like to just cut one open, remove the seed and fill the cavity with drawn butter and serve it like that! MmmmmmWe also like to cube a fresh one and add it to a nice salad.

Going to have lunch in a minute. Will get Guac on my Schlotzsky's sandwich instead of mayo. But I am not normally an avacado eater. I've heard just a little about them in regard to health food. Are they low or high in carbs? I think I remember them being insanely high, but I haven't gotten into the whole Atkins diet thing.
