"Baby names?"

Posted by J Slice on 05-08-04 at 07:11 PM

Well, the 2003 list of most popular names for babies was released...

Boys:
1. Jacob
2. Michael
3. Joshua
4. Matthew
5. Andrew
6. Joseph
7. Ethan
8. Daniel
9. Christopher
10. Anthony

Girls:
1. Emily
2. Emma
3. Madison
4. Hannah
5. Olivia
6. Abigail
7. Alexis
8. Ashley
9. Elizabeth
10. Samantha

They're not all too bad, imho, although working around little kids at a day camp has made me develop a deep hatred for the name Madison (seriously, has anyone seen Splash? IT WAS A JOKE NAME!) Anyways...

Here's the link that allows you to find where your name is in the top 1000 (if it is at all... mine's been creeping up steadily the last few years... I used to love being the only Julia!

For those of you as snarky as me (and I'm sure I got the link to this webpage here), read this woman's hysterical responses to some of the worst names I've ever seen.

As for me? I've still got about 10 years of name planning to do, but my sons will prolly be Raymond and Martin, and my daughters are Diana and Olivia... I'm quitting after two, so that's that taken care of.

And the least popular names are:
Osama and Omarosa

By the way, I know of a few little Olivia babies. I think the name is rising in popularity.

Olivia's really for my mom... she had a particularly rough miscarriage 2 years prior to my birth, and she was planning on naming the child Olivia if it was a girl. She retired the name for her use (and it's just as well; my sister, Charlotte, and I have good names, I think), but she's always suggesting Olivia. I like it a lot myself, and am saving it, should there be an occasion to use it

... now that 'Seven' has been taken, those would be the best ones from those that are left.

Olivia is a great name.

My name barely made it into the top 1000. I'm # 929 for 2002. It was # 386 in 1990 and has been steadily dropping ever since. I'm not really taking it personally.

edited to add The most popular girl's name the year I was born was Mary. The least popular girl's name? William. Huh?

a JSlice original. isn't she something?

I bet you can't find your name on those little license plates either. I feel your pain.

Never had a little personalized license plate hanging from my bike. *sigh*

Can you live with Vicky?

It was on our short list, but DW couldn't live with Vicky and we thought Victoria was too pretentious. I guess you could call her Torrie, Torry, Tori.

Yeah, It's a JSlice

LOL Slice! You knew everyone would open this post just to see why you were thinking about baby names!

My name started low and is still dropping. I couldn't be happier.

Hopes Slice never has triplets. Quitting after two would be a bitch in that case.

I'm glad the names we've picked out for this baby aren't on this list. Come to think of it, none of my family's names are on them.....

I'm number 589. I've only met one other Justine in my life, and she was on my softball team. It was so odd cheering for her, it felt like i was cheering for myself.

I thought my name would be lower, but its declining nicely. Good!

Awesome J Slice Creation 2003
Was named after Justine Bateman on Family Ties haha

My grandmother's name was Justine. I've always liked that name. I'm one of the 8 million Jennifer's roaming the planet (and one of the 7,999,999 named Jennifer Lynn.) I have no idea what my future son(if I have one) will be named, but if I have a daughter, her name will be Chloe Rose. Fiance even agrees on it.

What I find interesting is how the name Emma jumped up 9 spots in 2002. That's the same year Rachel named her baby Emma on "Friends." Coincidence?

And Monica and Chandler named their twins: Jack and Erica...two of the main characters, love interest for many years, on All My Children.

...from having a non-traditional name

1.) Unique is fine, as long the correct pronunciation is obvious. (There should be no "errr, ummm, err, from the Kindergarten teacher)

2.) An "Alternate pronunciation" is never okay.

3.) If the gender of your child's name is unclear, pick an obvious middle name. Don't pick a middle name that is generally used for the OTHER gender.

This is what happens when you get baby names from TV shows...

"Drool Monster" is a name that could take a person from birth to old age.... just sayin'.

Did you see the ER where the family wanted to name their infant girl Cha-eer (spelled "Chair")? That's probably based on someone's RL experience.

I taught a child who was named Pepsi. Honest to God on her birth certificate and diploma named Pepsi.

I call my child "Drool Monster" on a regular basis. Also "Barfy Face" and "Gross Baby."

Also "Little Bug of Love". My husband calls him "Ti-Pou", which means "Little Flea".

Dominic is not in the top ten, but I bet it's climbing.

ETA : Holy cow, it is. It's gaining. Ick.

My future daughters will probably hate me for what I'd like to name them. Summer Breeze and/or Autumn Rain. Still haven't picked a boys name...maybe Ian, Ethan, Elijh?

Weird. I've never seen or heard those 'scents' advertised. In fact, I rarely even see douche commercials.

My real name is D. Greenmonstah

The "D" stands for Drool...

"46 and 709"
Posted by FesterFan1 on 05-10-04 at 10:35 AM
My daughter's #46, which is much higher than I would've expected. It was #72 the year she was born, so clearly we were trend-setters. It's the matriarchal family name on my wife's side, so we have a legit claim to it.

Son clocks in at #709, with 2 fewer occurrances than Xzavier (and no, the extra 'z' is not a typo). Of the 266 in 2003, I'd guess roughly 200-225 were in the metro Bawlmer area.

Fester
Oddly enough, 'Fester' was not on the list, but I'm sure you're all working on changing that.

No sign of Draco. Jeremy's finally fallen out of the top 100 tho. Which is just fine, as I think it's a craptastic name.

Little Bug's name was in the top ten but fell a few slots into the top 20 the past few years. That's fine.

Still deciding on Baby Bug's name. I don't like any of the top 10 names for a girl.

Hubby is in the top 100.

My name (at least the way it is spelled) has not been in the top 1000 for the past 14 years. Rare, I am.
