I just saw a Venus shaving razor commercial and I swear it was Alliwhine's voice doing the voiceover. Has anyone seen and heard it? What do you think?

Funny you should mention this.

A while back, I heard a commercial for some women's product from the other room - for the life of me I can't remember what it was. But I remember thinking, "Wow, that sounds like Allison's voice!"

I'll be watching for the Venus commercial.

Being an X radio Dj myself (clearing throat) LOL
She actually does have a nice voice and could make some pretty good money doing voice overs. It's a nice way to make a little extra money and if you get real good at it you do lot's of nationwide commercials you can make VERY good money!!!

An ex-DJ? Well, well, well, who do we know that came into the SO house with that distinction? Did you get fired for missing that "ON-AIR" sign too? And why you aren't moving into "creating television"? What...no mandate from the universe???? (totally kidding, of course)

LOL, guess what, that isn't me but I did get fired and then asked to come back to the station and that was over 20 years ago, I don't actually like that work anymore, thought about going back into it but wasn't interested anymore, to be honest, it can be a boring job...

Better a voice over than an actual 'in person' commercial. At least we're spared from seeing her scrunched up nose (that she thinks makes her look SOOOOOOOOOO cute and adorable YUK)

I've seen this commercial as well; and, yes, it's definetly Allison's voice during the whole commercial! Every time that I hear it I get a picture in my head of her recording the voice over! UGH!!

I've never heard it. Whenever I'm watching a TV show "live", I mute the commercials. And, when I'm watching on VHS, I ff through them all.

I like Allison and if that is her doing the voice work,I'm happy for her!!! I think Allison had a very positive impact on other women who have had to deal with the very difficult things they face with breast cancer!

I agree, I like Allison. She is just like the rest of us: not perfect. I cant prove that she did anything wrong with donations. So until someone can; I am in support of her.

She doesn't have any nipples. She had tram flap reconstruction, new nipple-less "breasts" made from her belly fat.

Yes, if memory serves, I believe the exact description Alliham gave was "hairy boobs".

She always has an eloquent way of describing things.

Last season, that same commercial was brought up on the Starting Over message boards. Everyone thought it was her, but there was never proof. I have heard it and I also think it is her. The commercial airs during the show everyday around this time of the year.

Come on, lets be real....THAT ISN'T ALLYSHAM! Allysham is the biggest media whore, except Christie has surpassed her

Don't you think Ally would have opened up her "site" or opened up a "myspace" to let EVERYONE know that she did a real
acting gig?

You all know she would be rubbing that in Jills face.

I've heard that commercial about 4-times now and the more&more I hear it -it does sound like her at the very end,and I have nothing against her except her using her cancer as a way to benefit her and her only my Mom died of cancer and I have compassion for the women who survive it but Allison did take it a little to far as far as I'm concerned, but it does sound like her,IMO...

I've heard it and I cannot deny that the vocal resemblance is uncanny. It's her inflections and the way she annunciates that leads me to believe it's her. It is a little higher than her normal voice, but that could be a studio adjustment.

Two things make me question it though. Number 1: bragging rights. This is exactly what Jill is looking for, but Allison snagged it? I would rather listen to Allison than Jill any day of the week, but Allison would be talking about this somewhere. She doesn't have the self-control to keep it under wraps. Number 2: this commercial was recorded last year. I remember hearing it while she was still in the house. I don't know what they pay for voice over work, but I think it's a nice check. How would that have coincided with her bankruptcy?

I usually fast-forwarded through all the commercials, but I finally let this one play because of this thread. I, too, think the vocal resemblance is uncanny.

There is one point in the commercial where the word "smooth" is used...I notice a definite hint of the pronunciation as "smee-yooth"...kinda the same way Allison pronounced the word "bee-yoobs". Also, the word "magic" is used...once again, it sounds exactly the same as when Allison was talking about "Magic" Johnson on the show.

I can imagine Allison trying to do voice-over work, since she tried to be a stage actress. Yeah, from what I hear, voice-over work is a pretty nice check. And unlike most of the other Hg's, she did have the job at Bank of America that paid her a decent salary, especially considering she only has herself to support. I don't think Allison was quite as "poor" as she tried to make out when she was attempting to make people feel sorry for her & send her donations. As far as the bankruptcy goes, I suppose all she had to do was spend more than she made, no matter how much that was. And from what we've seen of Allison, she seemed like she could burn through money pretty fast.

"RE: Tell me it wasn't Allison!"
Posted by SeasonedRefinement on 06-07-06 at 00:42 AM
Those were the words, "smooth" and "magic", lol. There was something about the way she said "goddess" as well. If it isn't her, it's someone who grew up in very close proximity to her hometown and has acquired the same regional accent.

If it is her, it's killing Jill. Maybe this "reality" will put Jill fully face down in that bowl of cupcake frosting she's lusting after. LOL...Allison? You can't find her on the internet anymore. Jill? Reels, voice over demos, myspace, e-bay, rent-a-reality star, justaskjill, a journal, eJazz, Rick'sParty.com (or whatever), and they called ALLISON. The universe must be in a playful mood.

Although I think it sounds a lot like Allison, personally, I'm not believing that it is her voice. She doesn't even live in California where the majority of this type of work exists. It's hard to break into voice over work unless you know someone. It's very competitive, lots of BIG STARS do voice overs these days and it is a close knit group of individuals. I don't see how Allison would be able to break into the industry. Iyanla may have certain connections being who she is, but I don't believe she's well connected to this industry. I think it may sound like her...I highly doubt it is.

I don't think this is a new commercial. I seem to remember a similar thread on a message board last season, questioning whether it was Allison's voice on a Venus commercial. I don't think the commercial ran during SO at that time, and I never got the chance to catch it until recently.

I'm wondering if Allison didn't get this voiceover job sometime when her "Pity me; I've got THE cancer and need money to pay medical bills because I have NO insurance" scam was in full swing. (We know that Allison did in fact have insurance.)

I'm thinking this commercial was done shortly before Allison appeared on SO...maybe someone connected with the show even pulled some strings for her.

Maybe someone here can answer this question: If you do voiceover work, do you get paid a one-time flat fee, or do you get paid every time the commercial airs?

This ad definitely is her voice-over and it did run last year. Like many of you, I mute/fast forward through ALL commercials. Almost universally, they are annoying. This one, though, is visually pleasant and Allie does a good job. There's an ad that's just begun to run for Venus disposables. It isn't Allie. On the other hand, there's a new ad for Almay skin products that really sounds like her. Anyone caught that one?

I think it's a one time payment for a period of time. I know a guy who did a lot of voice-over work and he lived well and it was the only "work" he was known to do. It's been a few years since we've spoken, but I'll bet someone I know still knows him or knows someone who does. Good question!!!

most national "union" commercials get paid residuals each and everytime it gets aired. this is clearly a national commercial. she is making a load of money. some commercials are buy outs, which in that case they are paid a flat rate, and that is usually a non-union job or a local commercial or a psa, and a commercial that is for a specific sale may be a buyout like all the "old navy commercials are buyouts. union voiceover work pays very well.

if that is allison, than she isn't hurting for money as long as this ad is airing. nobody should be feeling sorry for her, period.

"If you do voiceover work, do you get paid a one-time flat fee, or do you get paid every time the commercial airs?"

It depends. Usually the producer wants to get away cheaply.
You could be paid one time for the commercial. Or, you could be paid by the minute, for example, as one or more character voices in an audio or video tape presentation. Or, you could be paid by the job. Residuals are more for appearing in a production rather than a commercial. A big star on a national commercial might get more pay and/or residuals. Usually just union scale. And if the person doing the voice is a one timer, they don't have to pay as much because they don't belong to the union. Most small market station work and ad agency work is a quick payoff, like $50 for a :30 radio ad.

Some commercials do have dated runs, meaning it cannot be aired after a certain date. This may have to do with either the voice or the music talents. The production company may have purchased music for a specific period of time.

It sounds kind of like her but not quite IMO. I also can't see a company asking her to say the word Venus with her lisp. It would come out venuth. Her voice also isn't that noteworthy to use it-especially with her being a nobody

Much is done in post production and remember Allie did live in New York and was pursuing a singing/acting career. She has some theater under her belt that also involved singing.

The SO production company did everything they could to make her look bad this season. She made some mistakes...some really big ones as I pointed to in my post that's somewhat buried in the "How Does Christie Support Herself - Part 2" thread. It's here: http://tinyurl.com/pcxpx (I just luv those tinyurls!!!)

Like or dislike her...she is in a heap of misery right now...a lot of it being surgical.

Incognito, what you just said about,"she is in a heap of misery right now, being surgical" brings me right back to my Mom and her suffering through her cancer no it was not breast cancer it was pancreatic and then colon she lived 2-weeks after her diagnosis anyway my point and I do have one is that we all have a right to our opinions and mine was that she took it to far and made it more about her than 'cancer' and that disgusted me, however she is human and hurts like we all do and I can feel compassion for her on that level and that level only, ahhhhh sorry got carried away. I just wish her well no matter what she has done in the past.

I saw the commerical again today while kind of watching SO and I really don't believe it is Allison. I had just seen Allison on SO and then the commercial aired and IMO the voice is not high enough nor does it have the same tone or inflection/accent type thing going on Allison does. granted at times it reminded me of Allison but it didn't sound like her throughout the commercial

Here's something interesting:

Someone put up a link to Allison's church in Charlotte, NC, over in the Links and Compilation Thread in General Discussion. I guess that gave them access to an AOL profile on Allison. Apparently, she lists her occupation as "Banking & Voiceovers".

That settles it for me.

I think she's laying low for a while. She may be building up a resume, and she may reintroduce herself in a post-SO world, lol.

Settles it for me, too! I definitely thought it was her...and having a background in radio production / voice over work, I can normally pick out voices on commercials. Her voice was distinctive.

Good for her! National voice-over work pays well and she deserves it.

You know what? I agree. Good for her.

Allison might have been way too starstruck for my taste while on SO, but post-SO life may have sobered and grounded her.

If Allison booked voice-over work for Venus, then she has reached the most impressive industry height of all of the HG's. Actually, it is difficult to believe that she hasn't plastered that success all over the internet. I think it may be possible that someone is looking out for her interests, and may be telling her to distance herself from the other SO HG's and their ridiculous publicity scams.

Failure and desperation are never more obvious than when the wannabee and her friends start flooding the internet with more paragraphs dedicated to expounding on the talent and appeal of the wannabee. Scam after creepy scam is hardly an earmark of an individual who has professional guidance leading them.

So, Allison isn't going around acting like the second coming - not anymore, anyway - and that's refreshing.

I agree Seasoned. I am still not an Allison fan but if that is really her she has reached a level of success that the other woman will never reach as long as their trying to sell their souls on the web.
