LAST EDITED ON 09-24-03 AT 01:49 PM (EST)Since so many around here know (or think they know) that Matt either does or does not know about the other residents being actors, I thought it would be interesting to tally up what everyone thinks.
Please put a 'Yes' or 'No' in the subject line of your response. 'Yes' meaning that Matt DOES know that the others are actors. 'No' means that Matt DOES NOT know and that the show is in fact as it is advertised.
If you wish to add any comments or reasoning as to why you believe what you do, please put it in the body of the message.
Edited to add: This is NOT a discussion thread - we already have many of those discussing the issue.
"I gotta stop hanging out with dogs."
Matt isn't that good of an actor, and I don't think the producers would want to make their audience feel foolish by havnig Matt in on the joke.
"I gotta stop hanging out with dogs."
No.
Wish he did, but he don't.
jlm
The producers just did a really good job in casting him.

I think I just decided this. I was convinced after watching the first few episodes that he did, in fact, know. The more I think about it, the more that just doesn't seem to make sense. I guess it was the Dr Pat incident that finally convinced me.
Joe don't know.
Or else I've just blown my mind.
"Nothing comes between me and my TV!!!"

Also, I want to believe he's real because he's just so adorable.

Why would you not have a real Joe? Because you are worried about hurting someones psyche? We're talking TV producers here!
No...because for every Matt Gould, there are hundreds more Schmoes still out there that would fall for it again. and again. and again.

Joe don't know.
It's not beyond the realm of possibility that he does know, but I haven't seen anything that really indicates that he does know. Based upon my theory that Stone Stanley decided to do the show as The Mole Reversed, I think he doesn't know.
Matt's just Matt
Based on the only episode I sawHell no, I won't Schmo!
Until I started reading the posts in the last hour or so I thought he didn't know. But now I am convinced that he knows and the joke is on the actors.
It is too cruel if it is not this way.
PlimTuna
"Now that reality has been redefined, can I start living my dreams?"
"Its too cruel otherwise" we are talking TV producers here.... why would they not be cruel? If its easier to be cruel... and it'll make more money, they'll be cruel.
Thanks for reading, though ... It completely destroys the gullible, sincere, genuine guy that Matt is if he knew all along.I, for sure, would not watch a Joe Schmoe 2 (where they will have to go to Norway and Denmark to find people who don't know about the first one) if they pulled one over on us.
This is exactly what the director said it was in EP. 4 ... an experiment. It's a study of one person and their reaction to utter ridiculousness. And it's great TV. It ain't "24" but it's great TV.
His reactions are too genuine. He's just a lovable goof and I'm hoping he's not hurt in the end.
I really don't think Matt knows. He is getting too caught up in it for someone that knows it's a joke. Just like the actors screw up sometimes. I would expect Matt to slip up if he really knew. But he doesn't. He really believes he is competing on a reality show with other contestants to win $100,000.
OMG how on earth (or anywhere else for that matter) have I Not seen this post/thread/whatever? before now???My female (in case you want a gender break down) vote is NO .
I have no further comment to add (strange and unusual for me I know) about the why of it. Refer to my signature line about fantasy.

If he knew, why would he try to sue the show?
>If he knew, why would he

when did he try to sue the show, i know he has more of a case then stacy stillman and she had her day in court. if he sued he would win.
I also vote no. He does not know.. And even if you say it is too cruel to be real those who said it was, look at the world we live in today, and its almost nothing compared to some of the acts of cruelty in this world..And of course he would win if he sued, he live in America, where you can trip over your OWN CHILD in a store, sue the store and win..

MM Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?
Came into this forum with strong feelings that HE KNEW!!!!Beginning to have doubts.
