I've been reading vernonwells' (and successors) posts about whether "Joe knows" for some time now. Joe may know. But I have a counter-conception of this show, one that I've had since I first saw it announced. This show is produced by Stone Stanley Productions, the same company that produces The Mole. In The Mole, one contestant is a confederate of the producers. The other contestants are trying to figure out who that person is. In Joe Schmo, all of the contestants save one are confederates of the producers, and the producers are trying to keep it a secret from the one contestant. In other words, it's an exact reversal of The Mole.
In other words, I don't think Stone Stanley is trying to "deconstruct" reality TV. Instead, I think they're trying to follow an idea -- reversing the concept of The Mole -- through to its logical conclusion. (I also think that they haven't mentioned the link between The Mole and Joe Schmo to avoid any disputes with the U.K. company from which they licensed The Mole concept.)
Anyway, that's my theory, and I'm sticking with it for now.
As an avowed Moleron, it has been interesting noting which bits of "The Mole". Posters have already noted that the music has been used. And "The Mole" successfully used the bribe in its season second to remove a player from the game.Fighting for evil (and neat forums) since 2002
the problem is since the challanges are rigged and if matt does not know that that is an fcc violateion and stone stanley can lose there tv contracts. when survivor had a problem in s3 in the triva scandle, they paid tom lex off. so i am back to ether he is in on it or was paid a hell of alot more then $100,000
There's no rule about rigging a quiz if the audiance is in on it and the only person not in on it wins... also I doubt that there would be a rule about having something that looks like a competition but is really a staged show.
have you ever heard of 21 the 1st challange was rigged for him to lose and he lost.
So are you saying that they want Joe to (slowly) figure out that the show is fake? (Lets assume for arguments sake that he does not know). Is that the logical conclusion?
That's what the man said!
Nah! Five buck on WYSIWYG!
