"Summary writer sign-up thread for Spike TV's Joe Schmo 2"

Posted by SurvivorBlows on 06-02-04 at 11:10 PM
This thread is the episode summary writer sign-up thread for Spike TV's Joe Schmo 2, which premieres Tuesday, June 15 at 10PM ET/PT and will be consist of eight(?) one-hour episodes.

Based on our initial summary writer interest thread, the following folks have already expressed interest in writing for this series:

- I_AM_HE
- Mysterious Jedi
- TeamJoisey
- Bucky Katt
- mistofleas
- Skiver
- Draco Malfoy
- Mon Cherie
- Tiger Lily

...if your name is listed above, please reply below reconfirming your interest in this show, as well as noting if you are interested in summarizing more than just one episode. If your name is not on the above list and you are still interested in summarizing this show, please also feel free to reply below indicating your interest.

Btw, thanks to the friendly folks over at Spike, I have seen a complete copy of the premiere episode and have to say this season is pretty funny... and from what I've seen, potential writers need not nearly as concerned about making fun of another "nice Joe" like Matt.

Please note however, that we are also running open sign-up threads for NBC's Next Action Star, NBC's For Love Or Money 3, FOX's The Simple Life 2, FOX's The Casino, and ABC's The Two Timer, so if you are planning to reply to more than one of the above mentioned open sign-up threads, it would be helpful if you could note the other shows in your reply, so that we can try and ensure any proposed schedule doesn't schedule you for back-to-back summaries, commit you to more summaries than you were expecting, etc. Additionally, also keep in mind that we will (shortly) be starting The Amazing Race 5 and Big Brother 5 sign-up threads (both shows will premiere July 6.)

As a reminder, while all our summary writing is on a volunteer basis, etc. reliablity, timeliness (or at least status communication) is important, and that while we can't offer anyone any $$$, we do occasionally partner with companies to promote stuff and, if we can, I do try and pass some of the goodies along to the show's corresponding episode writers -- as I've recently announced we've been able to do with all of the writers of ABC's two "Celebrity Mole" editions -- all of which will be receiving free "Celebrity Mole Hawaii" DVD collections courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment (and before any asks, yes, I've been individually packing a couple of dozen DVD's this week, and I'm planning to ship them out soon )

Any questions, please let me know... hope this doesn't sound too convoluted to anyone

Thanks,
SB

Hey SB,

If you need more summary writers for Joe Schmo, I am game but would prefer to do so after the 1st episode (it conflicts with another show I watch on Tuesdays, the season finale of which is the 15th). If not, that is okay too, I'm flexible.

(sigh) Y'know, I was the second post on that summary thread. And yet, every single show I expressed interest in, my name was left off of. If you want to give me a hint, you don't have to shout.

Regardless, trying again. (Bring a bullhorn next time.)

Hey webby. I'll be more than happy to do an episode of Joe Schmo 2.

Let me know when, where and I'm there!

Also I believe I said I'd do Last Comic Standing too, but I didn't see a sign up for it.

unfortunately, i think i'll have to decline the opportunity for a schmo slot (), as it doesn't look like i'll have cable (read: my own place) by the time this hits air, and you'll be needing to set up a schedule within the next week. but that's ok, gives more peeps a chance - it looks like there is plenty of interest with or without me

in the off chance that i convince my parents to get cable (or maybe get it for them ), i'll just have to make do with the added fun of actually getting to watch the show along with that of reading the summaries, but as we're coming down to the wire here, it's probably safest to just take my ping-pong ball out of the hopper. i'll go ahead and reply to this post if the situation changes within the next few days and i'll be available after all, but as i said above, please don't wait around just for me. my feelings won't be hurt!

thanks webby

Since there is a lot of interest in summarizing this one and I am signed up for other shows, I think I will let others tackle this one. You can leave me on as a spare/backup as I will be watching this show.

Throwing my interest in here. I'll apply for a few since I have a pretty open summer timewise and being fairly new, I know I won't get much if anything to cover.

Other interested shows:
FLoM3
The Casino
Big Brother 5
The Two Timer

Personal Note: I see there is a lot of interest in this show. I am just putting this here to stay uniform with the original list I posted in the other topics, but I do have interest. If there are a lot of people who want to do this show passionately, then you can cross me off. Thanks!

I'm in, but not available June 20-July 5. And I might be clueless after that. But that's not always a bad thing when you are writing a summary, right?

I'm still very interested in this one, if there's a spot. But let the others who said they wanted to have first crack, please, since I replied to the other thread so late.

The only other summary thread I will most likely reply to is FLOM3-- on an 'if needed' basis.

Thanks Webby!

"Proposed Episodes 1-4 schedule for Joe Schmo 2"
Posted by SurvivorBlows on 06-09-04 at 01:24 AM
Hi folks, apologies for the release of all these only partial schedules, but given that we're trying to handle juggling summary writing schedules for, at last count, *TEN* (yes, TEN) different summer shows, this is going a wee-bit slowly (oh my heck, I've even had to break out a color-coded Excel spreadsheet to try and keep it all straight, LOL!)

Anyways, below is the proposed writer schedule for the first four episodes of Joe Schmo 2. If you are listed below, please confirm the assigned episode is OK for you. If your name isn't listed below, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you, I'm just more or less trying to get the schedule for the first few weeks of all the shows up and running.

Tuesday, June 15, Episode 1 - TeamJoisey
Tuesday, June 22, Episode 2 - Mon Cherie
Tuesday, June 29, Episode 3 - woeisme1
Tuesday, July 06, Episode 4 - mistofleas

Thanks,
SB

Hi,

Sorry for not replying to this earlier. I'm still available for doing a summary of an episode of this series. I'm also signed up for 'Last Action Star' and 'The Casino' but have no episodes assigned as yet.

My bro and SIL are getting the dish, so they're gonna tape the eps for me, and I'll be able to see the show after all!

That also means I can do a summary if there is still an open spot (but if they've filled up, pass me by)

"I No Longer Get Spike TV"
Posted by mistofleas on 06-29-04 at 08:47 PM
Webby, everyone...I'm in trouble here.

I'm scheduled to do the summary for the July 6th episode and for a reason that someone has yet to explain to me, my apartment complex has pulled SpikeTV from our lineup (I get cable for free in my building). So, not only do I not get to watch the rest of Schmo...I can't do the Summary!

I'm really super sorry about this. I've called the property managers but all they'll tell me is, they've changed packages and SpikeTV is no longer available. I know I get it for free and begger shouldn't be choosers, but this sucks!

I need to ask for someone to take my July 6th summary for me.

Again I apologize and if I can figure out a way to do it I will, but...I'm not very hopeful.

Volunteers?

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate it.

I'm still seething over this. Stoopid apartment complex. Stoopid TV...stoopid me for not being rich enough to get my own cable system.

Hopefully webby will be along soon to assign it to someone else. I emailed him about this too so he should be aware of it.

Esbea, can you do next week's episode 4? I also have you down for TAR's Ep4 three weeks later, let me know of that's a problem.

Tiger, FYI I'm planning on scheduling you for the following week's Ep5, unless it's a problem.

Woe, thanks for the offer to help, are you saying that you're interested in summarizing a second episode of Schmo? (assuming there's room)

Thanks everyone!

No problem misto, looks like you have at least three other folks willing to help out.

Too bad though, AK and I were talking about how we'd finally roped you into gracing us with a summary! Maybe we can talk you into another show... we have several other fine bashworthy July summary slots still available... FLOM4, Simple Life, Next Action Star, Casino... and Big Brother of course!

Ya'll were talking about me? No wonder my ears were ringing!

I'll absolutely do a summary of another show. I could have a blast with Simple Life (though I haven't been keeping up, it doesn't seem to be a "need to watch it every week" kind of show anyway). If you want to slip me into one of the open spots for that one I'd be more than happy to do it.

Thanks for working with me on this Webby and to the people who picked up my stoopid apartment buildings slack, muchos gracias!

Bumping because it looks like we're at the end of the scheduled summaries. I don't know if doing this in this thread is the best thing, or if I should have started a new thread to make sure people saw it, or even one on OT...I'll send an email to Webby too.

How many episodes are left? Do we have anyone who's wanting to write a summary that hasn't had the opportunity yet? Draco's around again, it seems, but I don't know if he's watching; or if misto's SpikeTV problems have been resolved...

I suppose I can pinch-hit if no one else volunteers for Ep8.

rock, paper, scissors?

really, i don't care either way. we can wait until sunday night or monday morning to see if any new peeps jump in the pool, and then decide how to do it then, or you can go ahead and claim this one, to celebrate your school-induced freedom by writing a summary

i can take this one, or the one after that, or woe can. i think my TAR summary is in 3 weeks (well, closer to 2, but you know what i mean...TAR 5.7, if i've hopelessly muddied the calendar), so i can't do a schmo ep that week, if it's still going, unless i trade TAR eps with someone else. that's my only restriction on a 2nd schmo ep

I am currently in negotiations with HE on it. I asked if he would like to share it or write the whole thing. I think alot depends on his brother taping it if I have not mistaken the issue. But I will gladly take it on, if HE is unable to, since it looks like it will be a hoot. Would that be okay with you?
