When I first heard about this show, I thought it would be pretty uninteresting...but oddly enough, I found myself watching the premiere AND the 2nd episode. I don't know why, either. By all rights I shouldn't like this show, it's just the sort of thing I *don't* enjoy. But my bf and I find ourself entranced with it. Like Yu-Gi-Oh. It's so horrible it makes you cringe, but you can't change the channel.
I think my fascination's mostly with Joe (Matt). I mean, he is just SO the typical twenty-something ordinary ...Schmo (I guess that *is* the perfect term) ex-frat-brat smug half-annoyisome guy, someone who wouldn't only watch The Man Show, but would probably TiVo it as well. I just want to smack him upside his somewhat too-large, weirdly-expressioned, vaguely-sexist-but-totally-cool-with-gay-people head sometimes. Especially in the first episode when his "apology" to Kip involved white-guy-hip-hop-speak, which is just wrong. Very wrong. He's just so *cringe-inducing*. But why do I watch? I don't know!! Argh.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate him. (As a character, heh). I'm sure he's a nice guy...he's just coming off as a real plebian lunkhead. But he definately loves to play up to the cameras, always has *something* to say (though it may be really lame) and wants to be everybody's friend. That's the perfect role for the "star".
Side note: I wish the actor playing "The" Hutch didn't have to play such a jerkoff. He seems kinda nice and cool OOC.
Side side note: I wonder what they're regulations are on hanky-panky? That'd be a twist and a half.

Of course, I am also a guy, who watched the Man Show (before the new hosts cheesed it) and would have Tivo'd it if I owned such advanced technology.
I wonder if the Schmo's image would be any different if viewed as a part of a whole cast in a regular reality shows, rather than having the focus on him? Just a thought.

Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I think the cameras are playing up to him. He is the star of this experiment. I guarantee they are pushing him at every instance to say more and be more open for the cameras. Not unexpected in the reality genre but expected here where their goal is to make him look like a Schmoe.
They didn't have to work too hard.
