On the off chance that another of BB&D's 17 viewers is actually reading this forum, I took a look at the application (which you can find here), and the eligibility rules (here). The application is standard stuff, but the rules are much more fun (if you have a training in remedial legalese). The highlights:
* Applicants may not presently be a legally qualified candidate for any type of political office ("Candidate") and may not become a Candidate from the time the application is submitted until one (1) year after telecast of the final episode of the Program in which the applicant appears.
Standard stuff you see on every reality show application; there must be a reason for it. Does anyone have a story about this?
* Applicants must never have had a restraining order entered against them.
Standard stuff. Call it the Rick Rockwell/Smoking Gun Clause.
* All applicants must be United States citizens and be living in the United States.
That clears up that one, though I doubt if many non-citizens were clamoring to get on this show.
* Any applicant who has appeared on any national broadcast or cable network primetime television reality/game show... that (i) has been telecast during primetime within one (1) year prior to the application date or (ii) is intended to be telecast during primetime within one (1) year after the application date is not eligible.
I call this one the Anti-Media Whore clause. As a P.S., you're still eligible if the show did NOT (or will not) air in prime time.
* Finalists will be grilled, filleted, poked, and prodded in March 2003. (that's not a quote, BTW)
* All Contestants selected must be available to travel and participate in "Beg, Borrow and Deal" for approximately six (6) consecutive weeks during March and April 2003.
So there's your filming time; it was previously announced that they plan to air this next summer.
Thanks for reading this far. You must be a fan.
It comes down to if they were a candidate, they would have to offer their opponent equal amount of air time at the same cost. Thus ESPN/Disney doesn't want to give up valuble airtime for some smuck to do what they want.
Come in a stranger,leave a little stranger
Equal time? I was thinking it might actually be more complicated, but I'll buy it. Thanks for sharing.
According to the BB&D official site, the deadline for applying is March 1. So don't delay!Oh, there was a casting call this past Saturday and Sunday in Atlanta.
I just hope they made some updates, like three teams, points meaning something, or just better teams.
Come in a stranger,leave a little stranger
This is one reality show I would *not* want to be on. Imho, it's worse than Survivor. No money, no funds, have to hitchhike your way across America relying on the kindness of strangers to do your tasks. It seems that the one team only won because they had one team member who had friends in almost every city she could scab money from.
