LAST EDITED ON 07-30-03 AT 04:45 PM (EST)Hey, if America gets to vote, why not us? Just as a little mini-poll, let's vote on who we think should be the last comic standing. To cast your vote, just reply to this post and put the name of the person who you think should be the LAST COMIC STANDING in the subject line. Just for reference, here's a list of the five finalists:
Ralphie May
Dat Phan
Tess
Rich Vos
Cory KahaneyIf you want to, put a little explanation of why you voted the way you did in the text. Voting will probably close sometime this weekend (most probably Sunday), so cast those votes!
edit: tvgeek, every time I've seen Tess' name come up on the screen, it just comes up Tess. So I don't think she goes by a last name. Would've directly replied this to you, but didn't want this to turn into a discussion thread

To get the ball rolling, I'll cast my vote for Rich. I was very excited to see Ralphie finally perform (I missed the episode where he did the face off) but I think Vos just stole the show. He was slick, his routine flowed very well, and it was a laugh a second. Way to go Vos!

Oh, goody, i get to be the first to vote. just kidding. survivorerist beat me.
I never pegged her as my favorite, but last night, i was laughing at all her jokes.i have a question. does tess have a last name and you just didn't put it up there or is she trying to be like cher or madonna? if she is, its not working.
edited to say: thanks survivorerist for clarifying.smiles

Cory had the best and most consistent routine. All of the others had horrible weak gaps in their performances. I think that Dat Phan and Ralphie May were tied for worst with Tess and Vos tied for mediocre. Cory gets the slim win in a very dissapointing season finale.Of course, the fact that the winner is determined by a vote really means that anyone could win it regardless of how crappy they were.
what can i say, the man is funny. he told jokes about things that happend to him insted of trying to catch the audinces attention with politicle oppinions like that sack of s**t ralphie.
Excellent point!
Yep, voting for the woman. How like me.Anyhoo, while I finally got it last night why Ralphie has such a following, and I thought he did very well last night, I like Cory.
Cory winning would also provide the best loser reactions.
- Ralphie is so convinced that he can beat anyone and everyone on stage, so he wouldn't take this well.
- Dat would be clueless, and wonder why it didn't go to a nice guy like him.
- Tess would be knocked down a peg, to not be able to call herself the funniest female in the competition.
- Rich would react quite interestingly to having one of his minions topple "the Don".
Bebo, Queen of the Backwoods and your American Idol PTTE co-champ
She was the only one that got a laugh out of me last night. However, just out of curiosity, how many think that Dave would have taken it all if he had made it to the end?
She was my favorite last night and her material lends itself well to a sitcom which is part of the prize right?
I like Cory. I think she has talent. She wasn't as "on" as I have seen her, but I really thought she was funniest on a weak night for all.

I think Ralphie had the crowd going with him the most, but I enjoy Cory's style of humour the most. If I had to choose which of these 5 comics I would go see it would be Cory so she gets my vote.
"How fascinating for you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm due to make a deposit at the local savings and litter box."
Okay, so I'll take the unpopular approach and vote in favor of Dat.![]()
His stuff may seem repetitive, but he also had to perform his material for the NBC audience like 5 times in what-- three months, maybe less? I can understand needing to repeat bits that work well. Maybe the veterans could have still-relevant and fresh stuff after performing for the same people five times in a short period, but not many of them seemed to deliver the goods.
Dat definitely has his schtick (which I think he varies effectively at times), but having a schtick isn't uncommon in the world of stand up comedy.
The other thing I like about Dat is that he doesn't repeat OTHER comics.
Some people have pointed out that Rich's stuff last night was stuff they've heard other comics do better, and I think the same goes for Tess (definitely) and even for Ralphie's set last night.
I've seen Ralphie be original, but come on... how EASY IS IT to rant about wanting cheaper gas???? Especially for 5 whole minutes! Excruciating!
BTW, I also can't believe they're making us wait a week + 2 ridiculous hours to find out the results. After the disappointment that was last night, will we still care?
I wish i could vote for Dave or Bobert...
Damn...Anyways, Cory really surprised me yesterday.
Of the whole gang, she has been the most consistent and she always makes me laugh. In order, i'd say it SHOULD be:
Cory
Vos
Ralphie
Dat
TessTess was just horrible and nasty. Dat is too repetitive and Ralphie is too much about attitude and not enuf material whereas Vos isnt confident enuf.
It's sad tho, cuz i have a feeling Ralphie'll win.
.....since day one.
Totally agree.Ralphie May all the way.
LAST EDITED ON 08-03-03 AT 02:24 PM (EST)Until last night I wasn't anti-Ralphie, but he stunk up the joint. "I want cheap gas" was slight-smile-worthy the first time but by the third was just irritating. Anger can be funny, but Ralphie's fascist appeal to the worst in America ("line -em up, George") was not only cheap and unfunny, it was a transparent attempt to cash in on the knee-jerk "patriotism" we've all been tolerating for too long. Did he tell a joke? Everyone else, even Dat, had a respectable schtick.
LAST EDITED ON 08-03-03 AT 06:30 PM (EST)"patriotism" we've all been tolerating for too long.
Are you suggesting that American patriotism is a bad thing, and not to be tolerated?
Sure sounds like it to me.
I for one am delighted to feel patriotic about America. And to share the conservative values that made America great, and will keep it great, no matter what Enemy faces us.
And if you don't like it, or like America or American patriotism: Delta Airlines is ready when you are. And they fly to France.
Ralphie's fascist appeal to the worst in America
So again you try to equate conservatism with fascism? I doubt you know what fascism really is. Furthermore, I see where the real hate and hate speech is... and it's not Ralphie May. Perhaps the real hate and hate speech can be seen where and for what it is... the attempt to compare conservatism to fascism.

It wasn't patriotism I was objecting to--it was knee-jerk "patriotism." You have skill at taking things out of context to make your point. Clearly Ralphie knows his audience: dimwitted far-right conservatives who can't tell a joke from a diatribe.
Here we go again:dimwitted far-right conservatives
Debating political ideology is one thing, but this kind of namecalling of conservatives and conservatism is another. Who's showing the real hatred here?

Discussion on the last couiple of posts have drifted away from the show. Please keep your remarks on topic.Thank you.
Corey's may have been the best written five minutes, but Tess was the only one who made me laugh out loud. Voss cleans up well, also. Dat's routine was mostly funny, but strained in places, which has been true of his comedy throughout. I'm getting a little tired of his mother.
Will someone please tell me why Dat Phan won??? When he clearly is NOT FUNNY!!!!!! Are the producer make him the winner, just because everybody pick on him? Is clear that America did not vote for Dat Phan!!!!!
I think Dat's appealing because he comes up with some unusual, surprising takes on things--he's definitely off-center. His humor is harmless and good-natured, which is appealing to a lot of people. However, I don't think he's the sharpest comic of the bunch by a long shot.
You're right, Saddam wasn't our problem. He only killed his own people.
If you're expecting a kick in the balls, but you get a slap in the face, its a victory.
I know I originally put her a close 2nd in another thread, but the more that I think about who made me laugh the most, it was her. She had more of a variety of material.I faulted Tess for making the Stripper joke last forever. Ralphie did the same thing with his act and the war. Therefore, I vote for Cory, with Ralphie coming in second.
Every time I've seen him, he has truly been the funniest. Every time. I have yet to see him have an "off" performance (everyone else has, including in the finale).

Come in a stranger,leave a little stranger
Ralphie's tirade got tired real fast - FYI screaming for 5 minutes is annoying, not funny.I turned the sound off when Dat Phan was on. Maybe it's because I live in NY but I thought Vos was pretty funny. Not spit my drink out and fall to the floor funny but entertaining. Tess has no business being up there. Her act was dead from day one and now it's like it's been dug up, buried, dug up again...miserable.
Rich Vos
This is only because Dave isn't in the running any longer. I really like this old school stand up.
Another vote for Ralphie.I thought Vos choked. How can someone who has been doing this for 15 years look so uncomfortable on stage?
Tess was a classic case of force of personality over material.
Dat lost me when he repeated the old joke. FIVE minutes of unseen material shouldbn't have been that difficult. Admittedly, I laughed the first time he did it. It's just not
as funny the second time around.Cory was good, just thought Ralphie was better. A solid performance.
should win hands down
i filled in the state as california and used the zip 90210 and i cast my vote for rich vos 3 times
Everyone targeted Dat Phan at the start including myself. Yet he has won my vote because of showing up when he had to having won consecutive battles. I completely agree with ENGPROF, his material is running thin, as we must consider his frequent stage appearances. However, the whole typical stereotypical Asian perspective is quite annoying...and we may never know if it's all an act.
why in the H"" you vote for Dat Phan, when you even say that his material is running thin plus in the final show he even repeat it the same jokes...
I dunno, I've just liked the guy and his attitude since the beginning......veteran comic who is finally getting a shot at the big time I guess, although I'm pretty sure I had heard of/seen the guy before the show started. Buddy Jewell won Nashville Star, and he wasn't exactly the youngest of the bunch...so no reason why Rich couldn't win although I don't know if he has quite the fan following.
Survior 5 Anti-Bootee Champ, Survivor 6 Anti-Bootee Chump
Consistently funny and sarcastic.djandy
He's the only one who made me laugh out loud.
Dave is my favorite . . . *sigh*And I hadn't really liked Cory until the finale, but her performance appealed to me most. I like her humor.
Dave was my favorite but since he's gone I have to vote for Ralphie. I think that his material is not only unique, but it was the *only* completely original material used in the finale. Everyone else seemed to be recycling things that we heard in the semi-finals and showdowns, or the Carson Daly Show. His ranting style sure worked well for noted comedians like Sam Kinnison and George Carlin (all he does is b*tch and complain). The role of a comedian is not just who can get the most cheap laughs but also to make social commentary. I think that Ralphie did just that.
Im Voting for Ralphie May
but if i have to vote for a finalist, i'd go with rich.
I was foolish enough to watch the finally, thinking that no way in H"" Dat Phan will win. I have friends in hollywood and im going to find out, but i'm sure that this all was arrange for Dat to win. I just don't have words right now to describe the disappointment for the show.

There is NO doubt in my mind that the producers had Dat picked out as soon as they knew that he was the guy who answers the phone at the comedy club that he worked at. This was very obvious that the light went on in the producers mind as soon as they found out. First name basis shows suspicion.
If NBC happens to read this... I for one...will never watch his show, or buy anything that has his name on it.
Has everyone in Hollywood gone ZEN????
What the HE!! happened????
And by the way.... I wonder what kind of show he will come up with.... oh yeah... that's already figured out...Corey came up with it.... GOOD LUCK NBC.....
Maybe FOX can hook Dave, Ralphie, and Rob for a GREAT show... just a thought...Steve
My vote goes to Dat Phan because I like it like Dat but seriously.....why is it that when someone votes for Dat, there
is always some A S S hole who questions you about it? I voted for Dat Phan three times when it really mattered and he won
actually to my surprise. I felt somehow Ralphie would have won
because like he said, " I can rock the mic" while raising two
fingers up to the camera. That always made me cringe. However,
if I had my druthers, I would have picked Dave Mordal...yeah, yeah, I know he wasn't in the final but he definetly was one
of the funniest. Okay, I'll just wait here while some mohr-on tells me how stupid I am and I don't know squat about comedy so forth and so on..............
me
Ummh, I'm sorry to say this SpankDaMonk but you don't know squat about comedy. Dat Phan was so bad I'm actually thinking about getting together a comedy routine and going on the road...
Ralphie May! I liked Him the best! He made me and my 4 yr old at the time laugh out loud! We where soooo screaming at the tv when he lost! We where sooo mad! Anyways i was glad to see him on Whoopie!lol
Ralphie was the funniest i have seen in a long time... His last performance was subpar but still very funny...
