Meet Cowell's 'Cupid' Girl
Wed, May 7, 2003 07:09 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Lisa Shannon has already passed muster with Simon Cowell, so the hard part for her may be over.

Shannon, a 25-year-old advertising copywriter from suburban Detroit, will star in "Cupid," a dating show set to premiere this summer on CBS. Cowell, the acerbic "American Idol" judge, is one of its executive producers.

The show will combine elements of "American Idol" with those of other dating shows on the air. During the first two episodes, Shannon and two of her friends will travel to Chicago, New York, Miami and Los Angeles "auditioning" potential suitors in a form of speed-dating.

Each guy will have 30 seconds to impress Shannon and her friends, and those who do will be invited back for another shot. Shannon will eventually select 10 men to date.

Once the finalists are chosen, she'll go on a series of dates with them. Her friends will continue to critique the suitors by watching tapes of each date, but the audience will choose who stays around. As on "Idol," viewer voting will determine which of the 10 guys goes home each week.

After the audience picks the final guy, there's a $1 million dowry at stake. If Shannon and the chosen man can stay together, they receive the money. Former MTV VJ Brian McFayden will host the show.

I think they should include a segment where Simon gets to critique the guys.

Yep I saw the commercial and I think anything with Simon in it would be fun. I love your idea of having him critique the guys

Actually, this sounds like the perfect dating show. The Bachelor is a bit too hokie and predictable for my tastes (predictable meaning you know that three or four hopefuls will go home early, since they aren't white). Mr. Personality could be cool, but the editing leaves you thinking Frat Party, not Romance. Joe Millionaire was a romance-void bust. This sounds like it will acknowledge that this is a less romantic way of meeting someone, but with Simon's big bucks to back it up, it might come off a little more real and professional (like Bachelor) instead of mis-guided (like Joe Millionaire).

"Previews of interviews on Extra"

Extra had some previews of the New York interviews. Apparently, one of the best friends is so critical and nasty to the guys that she even scares Simon. Apparently they found a few that met with her approval but not many. Moving on to LA next. Just like on AI, they plan to show these interviews as part of the first episodes.
