""Cupid" won't be shown in parts of NC"

The Bible belt tightens again. One and only one station in the country is pulling "Cupid" from the airwaves, choosing to air "Andy Griffith" reruns again. Pity those of us in backwoods North Carolina.

http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1368&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

The same folks who own the Fox affiliate that wouldn't carry "Married by America" or "Temptation Island" have again decided that they need to protect the moral fiber of their viewers.

At least they're still letting us watch "Big Brother" and "Paradise Hotel" - I feel so much safer now. I'm also grateful that they let us have "Joe Millionaire". I guess it's not demeaning to marriage if the dating selection is being done by a guy...who's lying to his potential mates. And those soap operas that they air during the day are so much more marriage-affirming than a dating show on at 10pm at night, I'm sure.

Excuse me while I take off my shoes and get knocked up by my husband - apparently I'm out of the loop since I'm not barefoot and pregnant.

We may have indoor plumbing, but there are still some serious rednecks in these here parts...and some of 'em own TV stations.

Edited to give you the link to the particular article, instead of just sending you to the main news page and making you work for it.

First FOX... now CBS... just wait until (with the new FCC ownership rules) that guy goes out and buys the local ABC and NBC stations as well!

Poor Bebo... no trash TV for you

ABC is, by definition, trash TV. The only thing worth watching is "Alias".

*sulks in corner*

And I so wanted to continue my Summary Whoreness on this show. Oh well, y'all are spared.

Just got a response from the TV station, which told me that most of the mail they've received has been supportive of the decision not to air the show.

This morning's newspaper also had a column delighting in the decision, saying it's terrific that the station is going to give more people the chance to see "Andy Griffith" reruns AGAIN.

Wow....I keep forgetting that certain parts of the country block television and even reading materials (Harry Potter, for gosh's sake!) Around here, all they block are Raiders home games, but that's another story....guess I take our liberal media standards too much for granted.

But you'll still get to "enjoy" Paradise Hotel....strange that they would keep that one which doesn't even pretend to be about anything more than choosing your boff of the week. Guess that doesn't mock marriage though.

The response that I received said that the offering of a $1 dowry to marry her was the part they had a problem with. So, no one marries for money 'round here? Hah! We've got a huge murder trial going on right now where the prosecution claims the husband killed his wife for financial gain.

The station spends loads of time discussing that one. I guess that's not "demeaning to marriage", since he might get punished for it.

They should read the fine print of their own network marketing materials. They only get the million dowry if they marry and remain togother for at least a year. Not sure how that's very different from any other pre-nup in the state of North Carolina :

Ya, the audience has only had 40 years to see them -- I can see how they might have missed out on the previous chances.

Of course they are also available on VHS and DVD collections... but that new space age technology probably hasn't made it to the backwoods yet

I sent in a lengthy complaint to wral as well, and also to the aclu among others. I asked wral to put a poll on their website asking viewers which they's rather see, and the response was that Andy Griffith is doing "quite well" in the ratings. Not really a valid response. Anyway, if anyone else lives in Raleigh, please voice your opinion! They have a whole freakin' message board on wral.com for all the rednecks to sing the praise of Andy, it's disgusting!! (Haven't heard from anyone except wral, so far)

You ought to be sendng the complaint to the FCC (yeah, like they care) and most of all to your congresscritters.

Simon is picking up Mark Burnett's rejects.

Edited to add the text of article since the link doesn't want to work:

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - When Lisa Shannon didn't make the cut to join the second ensemble of CBS' juggernaut "Survivor," she probably thought her reality television career was over. Little did she know that her losing audition tape would ultimately help her land her own reality show.
The 25-year-old advertising copywriter may not have been good enough to outplay, outwit and outlast, but she's the centerpiece of CBS' new "Cupid," executive produced by Simon Cowell. According to the Daily News, casting directors remembered Shannon from her "Survivor" try and thought she'd be perfect for "Cupid."

On the show, which premieres on Wednesday (July 9) on CBS, Shannon and her two best friends (with the help of voters at home) narrow a field of would-be suitors down to a perfect husband. If Shannon and her groom stay married for a year, they'll receive a million dollars.

"I think we're doing a service to women," Shannon says. "This show will finally expose what women have to go through."

(Sorry if this is a minor threadjack. I didn't see this posted anywhere, thought it was interesting but didn't want to start a new thread.)

I'd read that in one of the local Detroit papers a couple of months ago and forgotten to post it... apparently she was a semi-finalist way back in Survivor: Australia (which is kinda wierd that if she was a finalist that long ago that she never got onto S3, S4, etc.)

...to buy Bebo a satellite dish.

"How fascinating for you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm due to make a deposit at the local savings and litter box."

"A dish"

...would look so lovely on my double-wide.

Knowing the peons around here, they'd probably find a way to ban the dish. After all, we've had neighborhoods complain about people flying the American flag...

Hey, Bucky! I think Bebo is a dish!

But she can't get good reception up on the roof. Edited for bad grammar.
